      He's absolutely 100% right by giving his opponent a false belief of confidence. He's setting him up. Very smart and useful information and techniques! This guy seriously his stuff! Thanks for sharing great video.😃👍 As for Bruce Lee was an absolute legend and he was much more than just a wonderful actor. He was Lengendary in his Kung fu and fighting methods, he was super fit and incredibly agile not to mention He's reflexes and speed was extraordinary. Very strong with a huge heart! He was a small package but an absolute dynamite of life! There will never be his equal! EVER!

      Just to drive his point home like saying there's a fire whisper quiet isn't as attention grabbing as " Hey, fire!"
      You could say it's shock treatment to emphasize the importance or urgency
      That's my take on it anyway

    • @michaelrehkop4817
      @michaelrehkop4817 11 місяців тому +3

      All the hollering has a multi effect. It gets the attention of others, not just the aggressor's. This is good bc in the event you do not succeed in defending yourself, you have a potential backup. If there are others around they might yell at him to distract him to get him away from you. There's power in numbers.

      What he is not so passively emphasising is you have to be fit and you have to train with purpose in order to defend offensively.
      It needs learning it's not natural.
      I'd like this man to be my trainer. If you come as a humble student he'll stridently train you within your limits and help you advance. The shouting is great. It makes a student focus.
      I'm 63 and getting back into shape with a personal non combat trainer. Strength, stamina, speed and flexibility first. His football season starts again soon so I'll be looking for another trainer. I might include some offensive defence training this time.
      I live I a really chill part of the world. Folk fight for sport here, there's not much aggression that can't be defused with an apology. Violent crime is really rare here. The cops are calm too....no handcuffing if you're not belligerent.

And what you demonstrated. Is exactly what I use on the streets of NYC. I ended before it got serious. And walked away. I even used that same technique against taller guys with a ten inch kitchen knife and walked away. Your fighting style works. Because it makes sense and it the real deal. This is awesome! Back in the 80’s I trained in Kung fu. Our teacher was a street fighter also. I used the element of surprise 3 times on 3 separate occasions on the same guy. Each time he would approach me and he proclaimed he was going to “kick my ass“ then proceeded to take off his jacket. As he was taking off his jacket I popped him with a jab and a cross and game over! I always was prepared to hit first or run first if I was ever out numbered. I was also taught to wear a belt when ever possible and be prepared to use it to defend against weapon attacks. I’m grateful to be able to train even now at 60. Your video just popped up in my feed and you earned another subscriber!

    Long ago, when I was in my 20s, self-defense training options were very limited. Krav Maga was unheard of, for example. Pretty much everything was Karate or Judo. I did join a nearby Korean karate group for a while, though. I didn't last long because none of it was practical. I saw katas, hand conditioning and discovering my spiritual self as wastes of time. I wanted to learn PRACTICAL self-defense in real-world situations. After about six weeks I bagged it, when I refused to jog barefoot on a dirty sidewalk which had obstacles such as broken glass. Also, one of the veteran Korean kids got badly beaten by some a-hole at a gas station. If only there had been an instructor like Professor David back then, and a place like his in my neighborhood -- exactly what I wanted!

    • @Shadowrulzalways
      @Shadowrulzalways Рік тому +8

      Judo is very effective in self-defense as countless actual situations were filmed and posted. Now granted, people who learn Judo have used mind games to sneak those throws and takedowns. But that’s the main principle in self-defense. We call it “verbal Judo”.

    Hey man great video! I studied taekwondo for a few years, the last studio was the best of the 3 different ones where I trained… people would actually get injured (occasionally) students had day gigs as bouncers at rough night clubs. I’m in my 60s and can still kick a headshot and do a jump kick, but I always knew this shit wouldn’t work in a real street situation. I saw you title for this video and the first thing I thought to my self was kick the knees and then head butt :) but fortunately I haven’t been in a physical confrontation since middle school. Thanks for doing what you do man. Good content. I still keep my training up here and 18:37 and the high kicks a great for coordination, but I would never try something like that in a real fight situation, and your best advice in this video is the notion that you should always talk your way out and defuse the situation first. I can also sprint pretty well too :) great content!

    Thank you, your realilistic offensive/defense style is exactly what I was looking for! I'm 70+ yrs old, in the very beginning of traditional boxer training with a pro 2 times Golden Gloves boxer. I have the intent of using YOUR techniques, in combination with my current training to achieve my goals. Being old like you, I know I won't become a Profesional boxer but with these two forms of training, it will give me what I originally started out to do. TY very much for sharing your videos with me! I call it reality training and I appreciate your style, OLD timer!!! lol

    The best form of self defense (besides being at one's best physically and on average - having the edge of speed and agility - alertness and response time due to the conditioning of continual practice over nearly 19 yrs...) The best defnse is to be quick enough to not be in reach where there is no chance of flight....I was attacked by two women and three or four men - an ambush --- this was in the first year ( I began with a broken back due to fall) --- taoist tai chi is/was the foundation of healthy living - self care and learning of Nourishment and wholeness and ways of encouraging the body holding more light and energy --- vitality....This is a very powerful"dicovery" - that those w/o a practice (even though it be swimming or the gym - of the western mindset) - as Confucius states : " Practice what you preach before Preaching what you Practice." - Thank you

    Professor James ! Osu! As a native of the Bronx, who moved to Brooklyn, before relocating to NC -I can relate so well to all that was mentioned. A huge difference in todays Martial Artist vs the way it use to be ...I learned Kyokushin under the great Shihan Randolph James in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn . Growing up with around the true Legends, Professor Vee , Oliver Williams, Ronald Duncan, Moses Powell , and of course Professor David James . It is a very different environment and atmosphere of teaching. Outstanding video that all should take heed. Simple moves , strategies and techniques from the original source. I completely understand the 3 second subdue methods. Proud to watch this video . Osu!

    It’s great to see old school survival techniques. Im not well trained but understand the concepts from growing up in the same battle ground. I’ve been blessed and lucky. To have made it through those days. Much love and respect ☯️

    This is what I love about David James. He only practices The First, the most. Bestest, and the winnests. In which means, Striking first with authority. Never let your opponent see it coming. The only other Sifu that I can think of making that statement was of course Paul Vunak. But according to these MMA guppies. They will beg to differ. Of course to them, all you need is good muay thai and wrestling. Heck! I'm still waiting for their outdated old 2010s comment. This won't work in the cage! And to those keyboard warrior types! Stop talking, and trying to explain what you would do differently. Cause all you doing is just eating your cheese puffs, and typing away
