Don't let this distract you from the fact that In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A- Team. I realize this is completely random, it just felt right. Thanks for the share Commander! Oh, off topic sure but did you ever collect the A Team action figures? I did for a short period of time. Fun memories.
I had three of these, I kept asking my mom for them because I loved stationing them in my room on shelves to create COBRA defensive battle stations for my Joes to attack.
I used to raise the pod up, open the canopy and pretend it was a robot of sorts. With the canopy being the head. In that position, the pod even fills out to resemble a cobra hood. It was a little extra play value in a mostly stationary toy.
another Great review by HCC788 and Daughter, The Cobra A.S.P. Was featured in the Sunbow Series "Rockets Red Glare" where Roadblock & Recondo are on 3 Weeks leave and decide to go down the coast and stop at Marvin's (Roadblock's) aunt & uncle Red Rocket drive in.
The A.S.P. is the basis for my favorite moment ever. I had sent away for it in the spring of '85 using FLAG Points and had it sent to my Grandma's house since we were in the middle of finding a house. She called on a day in August and told me it had came in, so I went over to her house to get it and visit with her (I was 9 at the time). While I was sitting at the dining room table putting it together, the phone rang and my grandma answered it. She was sitting at the table talking to me at the time so I heard everything. She said "Are you serious! That's wonderful!" then said, "Chris, your Dad wants to talk to you." I grabbed the phone and no sooner had I said hello, my Dad said, "You ready to be a big brother?" I couldn't stop smiling, I asked him when and he said, "Tomorrow, I'm coming home now and I'll pick you up". See, I was an only child until then and my Mom couldn't have any more kids, so we had been trying to adopt for a few years. That one phone call changed all of our lives forever and so this vehicle has a special place in my heart. As an aside, we stopped into a Walmart on the way to pick up diapers for my new baby brother and Dad bought me V.2 Snake Eyes, so it was a great day all around. (Also, If anyone has an A.S.P they wouldn't mind parting with, I'd love to have one just as a reminder of that day)
Thank you for this review. Back in the early 90s when I was collecting this series I never got hold of either the original or the python patrol version.
Brilliant brilliant hilarious intro! You guys are awesome! Your daughter is entering her rebellious teen years, watch out! Thanks for another great review and am looking forward to your takedown of the Pogo when you do it!
Great review, and great bit at the beginning. My cousin had one of these I really wanted one, but never found it in my small town. As an adult I figured the asp served a similar role as the German 88 flak guns in WWII.
The funny skits is why this is my favorite g.i. joe reviewer. Hope you keep going for years to come. Hopefully more 90’s stuff. I was born in 83, so those are the toys I remember. Again, great job man!
Great news. Most reviewers stop around 88 or 89. I know that isn’t your favorite point of G.I. Joe, but for dudes my age, they were the toys we had. Neon ninjas and all the rest. Keep doing what you’re doing. I wish you great success and hope to be watching you for years to come.
There was plenty of Joe goodness spread out throughout the entire history of the line. Even the 12 inch line that I had no use for made a Roy Benavidez figure.
Was always one I wanted in the old days but never had. I have a few now. The tight fit for the figure is the drawback but it is always a favorite for me with the early Cobra color schemes. The dark blue always reminded me of the old LAPD dark blue they would paint non patrol cars in back then like the battering ram and other specialized vehicles. Some of the last vehicles in that scheme wear a deal now "Ol Blue" for nostalgia. I actually have Torch in the ASP on my desk and he fits better than any other figure I have tried in it. Could easily imagine an ASP under two by a Thunder Machine! Check out the color mash up with Torch in there!
Great, great job!!!!! I liked the ASP. It seems after early 80s, Hasbro abandoned towed weapon systems. It is a hard sell. Kids love figures, they love vehicles, so to include a figure with a vehicle...instant buy! The MMS included a figure, the HAL included a figure, and the JUMP included a figure. Sure, Hawk was just a reuse of parts/repaint/recast, as was Grand Slam. It would have been cool if Hasbro included a Stinger Driver, but in Cobra blue to use the ASP. This character could have been a passenger in Stinger, or even an alternate driver. It seems in '82 and '83, Hasbro put 110% into the line. There were store exclusives from one of the largest catalog retailers at the time. Then, in '84 and '85, the line was excellent, but Hasbro release different types of vehicles/platforms to test the waters, including the epitome of playsets. In '86 and '87, the line was still going strong, but there starts to be a shift. There were no longer any towed platforms, at all, yet vehicles still had tow hooks. You did a fantastic job reviewing a weapon system Cobra had, which numbered in the 100s, if not more. I will always wonder if executives lost sight of the heart of GI Joe itself. In '82-'83, GI Joe was truly a military toy, with military dressed individuals, with military themed playsets and vehicles. The further they strayed from that concept, the more the line declined. Nuff said, I always talk too much anyway.
I like the ASP a lot more then you do witch is fine. It was one of the 1st Cobra toys that I can remember I think my cousin had one and I always wanted one loved how it was all propose. I have a motor viper in the one I have. Thanks for the reviews as always.
A.S.P is easily my favorite towed weapon from entire vintage G.I Joe line but then again I have never been huge fan of those so it kinda wins by default.
I had a pair of these, and I simply used Vipers as the "crew", as I liked the looks of them manning Cobra's defenses... Think I may have used BATs as well, when Cobra was running low on manpower.
Bro I have the python asp and was one of the only 2 gi joe vehicles that I had growing up in Brazil. The other vehicle was the overlord dictator :D man I love this!!! great review :D :D :D
I had this and never had a problem putting a Cobra Officer in the seat of the ASP So I don't know what or why yours is different. Any way I love it thought it was great
Wow, I forgot how many little vehicles and guns the line had. Thanks for another fun review. Great surprise, wasn't expecting a review this week. I remember towing these around with the Gaye Lazer Force car we got from Zayers or Kmart. R.I.P. Toys R Us. Range of emotions all over the place. Want to be nostalgic but really wasn't the same experience as Toys R Us from 30 years ago. Reality is that concept is past its time and big giant companies are going to have hard time competing against little guys with 3D printers. Licensing, paint, customizing and kitbashing are the next wave.
I remember those Gay Toys Lazer Force vehicles. They were great! We used them for a variety of different purposes. I'd like to get some, but they have become collectibles, too! The end of Toys R Us is the end of an era.
Modern Toys R Us was more of a showroom for toys to shop online then the mega warehouse of toys we had as kids. Exposing a variety of toys rather than a floor to ceiling aisle of a toyline like we had. Two years worth of figures and vehicles on the pegs and shelves higher then we could reach the top pegs would get the peg warmers. Crystal ball hung out forever. I am optimistic about the next phase though. I think cartoon kids realized how silly it was and had less brand loyalty than comic kids. We were very much about the scale GI joe ruled because it was the best line ever but it was heavily supplemented with star wars, Lanard, remco, captain power, voltron, tonka, even battle beasts found a way into playverse. I collect almost anything in the scale I prefer vintage joes just because they are better quality. I believe the nextwave will be almost entirely about collectors and not kids and customizing will be driving force in collecting. Between Angel Forge, Marauders, super 7, Biff Bang boom, boss fight, and a few others combined with 3d printing I am really psyched with where it can go if they can line up business models.
I love using these to shoot down hawks, dragons, bombers and fighters in the PS4 game Toy Soldiers: War Chest. The upgrades for it are great. If you haven't tried the game, it's worth it. Especially for $10 to $15. It lets your imagination go back to your childhood.
The fire breathing cobra sticker were reused as a paint job on the Retaliation Cobra Combat Ninja's missile launcher pod which is also painted in the same blue of the ASP.
I also had 3 of those, 4 would have been ideal, but could nt find another in time. I also used a reg Cobra soldier to man the asp, since he blended with the asp, he was harder to take out. it took too long for Hasbro to make a color matching vehicle to tow the asp, it should have been black. if you ever get a cobra adder, it looks great. I m not sure that the ferret has a hook.... 4 asp protecting a terrordrome must look pretty neat. Hasbro never made enough towed vehicles, they were great to defend perimeters. the seats in the asp were not deep enough, you have to bend the knees a lot for a proper position. bon travail Commandant!
Great review on a great Vehicle/Artillery Weapon! Thanks for sharing bud! Are there any vehicles that are meant to be "one of a kind"? The U.S.S. FLAGG comes to mind, but not much else. I have a small mind though...
Mine usually was a mobile unit mounted to the back of an off brand military flatbed truck cobra needed to make the ASP mobile so they just had a crimson viper rent a truck and bring it to the base. ( though I’m not sure if the crimson viper remembers to get the optional insurance when he rents the truck)
I'm sure it's mostly an AAA cannon emplacement, but yeah the ASP would be pretty useful on a variety of targets. LOL not like tanks or people are harder to track than distant planes
Love the ASP, one of my favorites! I don't think that little connecting bar between the 2-foot piece on the back is supposed to be there. I *think* that is just the piece from the parts frame that should be removed.
The ASP is rather ridiculous. I think it would have been better if Hasbro made a toad anti tank gun based off the Bofors or Pak 40/43. Maybe look at some of the flak guns that were used as both anti tank and aircraft.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. This review kicks asssp
HaHa! Thanks!

Thank you! I'm looking forward to the Pogo, too. I have plans!
I had Asp-irations for this vehicle/weapon, so I bought one 2 weeks ago. You looked ex-asp-irated from making this review. Great job
Hey, good timing if you just picked one up! Thanks! I can't think of a pun, so.... ass.
Great review, and great bit at the beginning. My cousin had one of these I really wanted one, but never found it in my small town. As an adult I figured the asp served a similar role as the German 88 flak guns in WWII.
The acronym should have been Artillery Support Pod A.S.P.
The funny skits is why this is my favorite g.i. joe reviewer.
Hope you keep going for years to come. Hopefully more 90’s stuff. I was born in 83, so those are the toys I remember.
Again, great job man!
Thank you! We'll have some 90s stuff coming up in the not-too-distant future.
Great news.

For a moment, I couldn't figure out just what a Toad Weapon was.
Now I'm delighted at the prospect.

I agree, my interest waned when it became far too futuristic and unrealistic. I collected from 1983-87.
I like the ASP a lot more then you do witch is fine. It was one of the 1st Cobra toys that I can remember I think my cousin had one and I always wanted one loved how it was all propose. I have a motor viper in the one I have. Thanks for the reviews as always.
A Motor Viper would look pretty good in the ASP!
the opening skit was one of the best!
A.S.P is easily my favorite towed weapon from entire vintage G.I Joe line but then again I have never been huge fan of those so it kinda wins by default.
Well then the ASP has that going for it! It jumps the low bar.
I never had any Cobra vehicles with tow capabilities, so it was always just a static weapon for me.
I remember using flag points and some cash to get this through mail away back in 86
LMAO! The intro was hilarious!
Thank you. I'm glad you weren't offended by the off-color language.
Thank you! I'm glad we looked at something you remember from your childhood!
I always liked the Asp, Cobra had a ton of almost overpowered looking vehicles, despite the futuristic styling, the Asp seemed very practical.
love your passion and the way you tell these stories had to sub you
As always, great video. Love the opening sketch. Too funny.
Thank you!
Great review! Its nice the little gun emplacement that could got to take out its nemesis the W.H.A.L.E.
Thank you!
I had this and never had a problem putting a Cobra Officer in the seat of the ASP So I don't know what or why yours is different. Any way I love it thought it was great
Also for the valor vs venom line hasbro released a hiss tank with the asp that included three crimson guards called operation crimson sabotage

HCC788 presents Cobra da' BOOTY !
Thanks for using the only approved non-scientific name for the posterior regions.
ASP me no questions HCC788, I'll tell no lies; I'll take a GI JOE burger with a side of fries!
The fire breathing cobra sticker were reused as a paint job on the Retaliation Cobra Combat Ninja's missile launcher pod which is also painted in the same blue of the ASP.
Another one that was new to me; thanks for reviewing it. That Buck Rogers book looks cool.
Awesome video bro! Thank you so much for all the work you do for us all! Sending much love from SoCal to you and yours commander keep up the good work
Thank you!

The A.S.P. is a lot better than most G.I. Joe toys from a realistic (or believeable) point of view.
I love the A.S.P. Something about the form and color that's really cool. Function? Not so much.
Great work B~ love these openings !
I have seen this episode many many times and I freakin" love it!!!!
Hey , love that sweter , is a radicall hair style of your kid ....
You bet. You did the best review I’ve ever seen of this item thank you
it would have been cool if the Asp had a tow hook in front so you can link several of them together and get towed by a single vehicle
I love army building for little vehicles and sets like this what a great review I forgot to vote but this was my vote if I did
Love the outtakes!
i love the outtakes!
I always thought that a better name for the BATs would be Android Super Soldiers
Great review. I had the asp as well.
I'm sure it's mostly an AAA cannon emplacement, but yeah the ASP would be pretty useful on a variety of targets. LOL not like tanks or people are harder to track than distant planes
The ASP is Awesome, but yeah it's a bummer that it can't sit a figure properly like on the boxart I never knew this till now 🐍
Great review as always!
Love the ASP, one of my favorites! I don't think that little connecting bar between the 2-foot piece on the back is supposed to be there. I *think* that is just the piece from the parts frame that should be removed.
Huh? It's made to be towed, are you saying that the tow bar is not supposed to be there? It's not self-propelled...
Breaker : "Look at that A.S.P. over there!"
Scarlet : "Why are you so sexist?"
Breaker : "WHAT?? That's not what I said!"
HCC788, how about a BLAST VIPER working the ASP?
Looking for COBRA artillery? Don't worry; there's an ASP for that...
Nice video
I miss.. Your daughter ..... " wait a minute....." Please repeat that again one day :)
The only thing that reminded me is towed anti air gun 2x 23 ZSU gun system used by many armies of Warsaw Pact or by terrorists .
And the secret code book, my is getting dust sadly...😩
Yay, ASP!
Great review! This vehicle is okay. I never owned it as a kid.
Is it my imagination or is her hair, the ASP, and her sweatshirt the same color?
Donkey would have been a better joke than da booty. I know. I've made an ass of myself over such words as well.
da booty lol
Like the channel. What is your Instagram?
Who that guy?
Hey you called it a vehicle here but said it wasnt a vehicle there?
I was wondering who that guy would be. Congratulations. You are that guy.
Ok so who was “that guy” 😏
Check the comments. There was indeed a "that guy."
Are modern gijoe figures able to fit in the vintage asp?
Apesto
Not a big fan of this vehicle. The drawbacks outweigh any positives it might have. I'm not sure I'll get it.
ASP = Another Slaughtered Person. Joes blew them up like they contained Star Trek Red Shirts.
It's just a toy it doesn't shoot anything
The reclining feature makes me feel like he's getting inside a coffin for some reasons.
He probably feels that way, too, since there is no protection for the gunner!
The ASP is rather ridiculous. I think it would have been better if Hasbro made a toad anti tank gun based off the Bofors or Pak 40/43. Maybe look at some of the flak guns that were used as both anti tank and aircraft.
