25:30 on the other hand nazirites are mostly following the same rules as those for priestly purity but even more intensely. I think you overplay the tension here. Im also quite curious as tp the source they cant touch dead animals. I dont believe thats the case in our understanding of the rules for Nazirites at all- te nazitie shares the same rule for purity as the High Priest- who can certainly touch dead animals The rabbis of the early second century at least do discuss a priest who becomes a nazirite so at least a century after John it was not considered an impossible position - in fact later soyrces argue that its precisely the nazirite for life specifically that is most compatible with piretshood as their rules differ slightly from a nazirite of fixed number of days
Wondering further the priestly influence on Jesus and John. A priest began their ministry by being baptized, usually at age 30. John calls Jesus the lamb but also sees the spirit as a dove, a poor man’s sacrifice
Looking forward to this one! Have heard some buzz around McGrath's book and will be picking up a copy.
Excited for your thoughts
Good stuff! Thanks James for sharing your hard work and opening the door to knowing more about John . What a great teacher he was !
Thanks for listening
I read his Mandaean Book of John translation. He seems like a stand-up guy.

It looks like I have another book to read after Wisdom Christology in the Gospel of John!
You won't be disappointed!
The Temple priests were appointed by the Romans, not Jews.
