Haha thanks! Slightly different style to my usual stuff but tbh it’s the only way I could bring myself to put this out there. Was a very cringey experience reading this back after 6 years AND having to review it haha
This really helped me while being very entertaining😂I’m applying to study neuroscience next year and currently in the process of writing my personal statement.
out of curiosity Doctor Shaene, do you happen to know/follow or be acquainted as social media creators with Ali abdaal. Your channel is really good and unique obviously. Hope you maintain the channel beyond foundation year and give us a contrast to student life once you are working the field. You and Ali abdaal are great Cambridge alumnae i follow in medicine
Hi, could you make a video on work experience and volunteering for different courses at uni i.e. how to get a placement, is it necessary? etc. Thanks a lot :)
Thanks for the idea! But to help you out briefly now. Work experience and volunteering strengthens any application to any subject as it shows engagement and evidence of your passion for it. So i recommend doing any subject-related volunteering or work experiences. I recommend starting off with these videos for now: ua-cam.com/video/OT221dHqxvE/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/A1UKj17cgn4/v-deo.html
Hi I was just wondering whether using webinars somewhere in your application would be useful e.g. I’m currently trying to watch the neuro-prosthetics 2020 webinar series (which are very interesting but difficult to understand as I’m only gcse level!) would this still be useful for applying for medicine?
Absolutely it’s a great supra curricular thing to talk about, read around/ watch videos around the bits you didn’t get. Osmosis videos are pretty good tbh
IN your personal statement template what would ben an example of something that you'd write as suitability for your subject. my points seem to be vague and difficult to relate to my subject in a way that will look impressive on a PS
Hi :) love all your videos- they're so helpful! I was just wondering whether 'supercurriculars' make a difference when applying. If so, do you have any tips/ideas (At the moment I read medical books but that's about it) and how you would you use them in your application! (e.g. how would you use medical lectures to strengthen your application?)
Thanks! I think they do for sure. For eg the debating example and the Tanzania trip are examples of how to use and word the extra side stuff. In terms of wording the research reading or extra reading, Currently working on answering this in video form in more detail, check back in a couple weeks! Or head to www.askcamdoc.com for more info!
Hmm I’m not too sure tbh. I personally don’t have experience with NCS so can’t comment on this :\. However I would imagine it is worthwhile talking about some volunteering instead of none?
Haha the editing on this is insane 😂 keep at it and loving the content!

That’s so great to hear! I’m glad it was both educational and entertaining 🙌 I was worried it’ll take away from the learning haha

Hi Shaene! Just a small concern, how many words did u write for you personal statement?

Doctor Shaene Thank you!
Would you recommend placing NCS on a personal statement as I've found that bringing it up in academic circles has been looked down upon?
Interesting whom have you heard this from? I personally don’t think this is the case
@@DoctorShaene their seems to be a stigma that its just a jolly and they tend to gloss over the volunteering aspects of the program witch is a shame
Hmm I’m not too sure tbh. I personally don’t have experience with NCS so can’t comment on this :\. However I would imagine it is worthwhile talking about some volunteering instead of none?
Haha this takes me back to when I wrote mine
Hahaha honestly was such a weird experience reading it now
Are you currently working on the frontline
Nope, I start work on "the frontline" in July. Been carrying out research into COVID-19 to aid with evidence-based safe procedures during this time 🙌
What are you going to study at oxford
Not studying. Teaching 🙌 And working haha
Love you content and videos. However, I think a bit less of meme editing would be nice. It annoys me a bit.
Thanks! Haha noted
😂😂😂
