현명아는 “연결”이라는 주제를 바탕으로 복합적인 작업을 해오고 있다. 작품을 통해 관객과의 상호작용을 시도하고 일상의 불완전한 단편들을 결합하며 새로운 감각을 상기시킨다. 또한 아티스트북 연구에 집중해 전통적인 바인딩 구조와 다양한 현대 매체를 접목하는 등 “연결”의 여러 방향을 탐구한다.
시카고 예술대학 학사 및 석사 졸업했다. 서울과 시카고를 오가며 다수의 개인전을 가졌고 다양한 아티스트북에 관한 워크샵과 강의를 하고 있다. 현재 시카고 예술대학 Printmedia 학과에 재직 중이며 학생들의 작품으로 매년 아티스트북쇼를 기획하고 있다.
Myungah Hyon expresses the concept of "connecting" with various mixed media. She attempts to connect and interact directly with the viewer through her interest in combining incomplete, partial fragments that she encounters through everyday life. Myungah's work provokes new and unique experiences that result in transformed impressions to the viewer. Additionally, Myungah Hyon finds other ways to connect with the viewer by researching various Artists' Books structures to merge traditional binding and innovative methods, exploring the different forms of the term "connecting" literally and figuratively.
Myungah Hyon graduated with a BFA and MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Currently, she is a faculty member (Associate Professor, Adj.) in the Department of Printmedia at SAIC. Myungah Hyon has had multiple solo exhibitions from Seoul to Chicago while holding numerous Artists' Books workshops and lectures internationally. Through these experiences, she also curates the annual Artists' Books show to display her students' works.
