  • Swapping P90 pickups for Humbuckers in a Les Paul-style Epiphone guitar. I’ll need to make extra room for the pickups and adjust the binding and fretboard a bit. I’ll use templates and a small hand router.

    No chit chat. No annoying music. Just a bundle of solid technique and sound ideas. Perfect video.
    I have an epi gold top. I took a utility blade and precisely scraped the gold paint off the thin face edge of the binding, to reveal it, and give it the proper '56 look.

    I bet those deluxe mini humbuckers would have been a good idea. Those p90s can sound amazing when set up correctly.

    Nice job but I cant help think your better off just buying one with HB pickups.. There are so few P90 LP's out there and so many HP ones... I hate to see one with P90's adapted...

    Fantastic job done by tech. But I would suggest buying a Les Paul with humbuckers. Rather than doing all that work to replace P90 ‘s . Especially if the guitar has any age or vintage value

    Nice conversion job, looks well done ... I didnt read the discription and took a deep breath as i saw the epiphone headstock. Its a Epiphone so its Ok ;) ... but people please dont do that to like 60s gibsons :D With a old gibson please go for Humbucking options that will fit p90 routing (like mini humbuckers, soapbar sized humbuckers, noiseless p90 etc.... there are a few pickups types that will fit very well while beeing fully reversable to original)

    • @ludblight
      @ludblight 3 роки тому +1

      @@ronmorey3475 Hi Ron! Yes I did get it converted and I didn't like it. The guitar was chambered and had a prominent upper mid range and that was before the humbuckers went in. No matter what pickups I tried in the guitar, it never sounded that great.
      The guitar was better suited for P90s in my opinion. If I were you, I would look for different P90s, humbucker P90s, mini humbuckers or get rid of the guitar and buy something else.
      I would only have it converted to humbuckers as a last option if you really loved the guitar and you took it to someone that knows what they're doing.

      Seymour Duncan, Tonerider and more companies build a P90 that will drop right in any humbucker guitar.

As an aside having nothing to do with doing this on a new guitar like you are doing in the 70s this was done to alot of vintage guitars and later they wanted to put P -90s back in to restore it which is possible but a mess to hide glue lines and match the finish! Just for a historical anecdote. Oh well..
