I suppose we could validate our choice like this, too: "Who wants to have an opinion on healers?" _everyone raises their hand_ "Why wants to heal?" _crickets_ "That's what I thought."
I find WHM to be an excellent intro to healing, honestly. I wanted to play SGE from the START. I started out as a tank main (and of course, my main tank is the one I started with), and I was scared of healing because I already have tankxiety. But once I unlocked SGE, I was like, oh it's YOU, the class I was ACTUALLY curious about... but of course, having it unlocked at a high level means I got bombarded with buttons, so the idea of learning a new class at 70, let alone a healer, was intimidating as FUCK. So I decided, okay. Let's start from the beginning. Starting with WHM helped me ease into healing as a role. It worked out very well for me, honestly, especially with how simple it ended up being - I found myself terrified at first but I quickly realized that it's not that bad. I even _enjoy_ it and still play it now. Then I decided to try SCH so I could understand shield healing prior to trying SGE, and AST because I thought it was pretty... ... and now I'm a healer main, with SGE at the front. I'd say my plan worked out nicely, though it's funny how I went to such a roundabout way just to learn one class. Anyway, point is: WHM is a great class to heal with. You wanna learn healing? WHM is the way to go.
I wouldn't worry about brain rot, eh. I think the anxiety is focused more around the fact that SE feels like each job needs 400 individual skills to pick from on GCD, which other MMOs have been moving away from for a while. Having a healing class that doesn't require micro-micro management is just a breath of fresh air.
I main-main white mage as in up until EW it was my only job I had leveled (outside the points of Arcanist and Thaumaturge you used to need to unlock whitemage - YES, that's how long I've played the game) and Iunno I like healing even though it stresses me out and triggers me with all the knuckleheads online. It just has a lot more going on... I sort of like the tension. When I leveled my other jobs to 90 last expansion I felt like it made me a better tank cuz I knew which parts of content hurt a whole a bunch or stress me out as a healer so I knew to use my mitigations properly and as DPS I got to chill out and just press my buttons and blow things up - I don't really need to think when I'm a DPS. It's really awesome. I'd level more jobs but to be honest I stuck with Whitemage because I just wanted to be good at my job. I found that when others level all jobs it doesn't translate to mastery of all jobs... which to me is an annoying way to play. So I got Whm, Paladin, Monk. Now I got Picto also and I'm gonna try to get bard and summoner too.
imo even if white mage is the easiest healer there's a lot of things easier than it; besides the two you mentioned i feel pretty comfy putting MCH and RDM below it, and reasonably comfy putting DNC there too... maybe my brain is melted from playing so much AST though, WHM always feels like "AST with less tools" to me and it makes my head hurt haha
@@Sylviaon the funny thing is, if it weren't for the card mechanic, I feel like astrologian would be way lower. the cards alone just increase the mental stack and APM needed to play efficiently pretty heavily. scholar is only so high because i just generally have a hard time wrapping my head around it, but thats my problem mch is higher for me due to high complexity apm reasons (same as gnb, viper is so low because even though it requires high apm it feels like pretty simple high apm and the filler is really easy) and rdm is higher due to still needing to be pretty flexible in reacting to procs i definitely see an argument for having dnc lower though
also i completely agree with you about difficulty scaling. in arr i felt like i could basically heal without paying much attention at all just because nothing did any damage, and in hw/stb i had enough tools to completely rely on ogcd healing without having to manage cooldowns or pay much attention to how i used them, so when I got to shb and mechanics started somewhat mattering and I needed to actually plan my moves to succeed optimally i had an expansion long mental breakdown where i reverted to a pure ranged-DPS player before finally locking in and learning how to properly succeed with my preferred role... strongly remember my first time in malikahs well, coming out of an msq roulette and still being in the mindset of "none of this matters and i may as well stand in puddles if i want" only to get instakilled by that damn armadillo and actually loved it. its weird that so much of the early game is essentially filler, disguised by the fact that you're too new to know it doesnt matter yet. anyways, good vid, i enjoyed hearing your thoughts and the editing was good!
@@Bonzi77 oh yeah sch is definitely hard, no debate there. I don't get it either lol fair enough on your rankings! personally i think dnc is the hardest of the three i mentioned cuz its just so random and all the procs make me stare at my hotbar and get clipped by attacks haha
you main it cuz you like pressing one button and not healing
Correct!
