  • In May, the rhododendrons and spider lilies, which were in full bloom in April, disappeared and were replaced by irises, primroses, crenate, and Japanese boxwood. We can feel the change of the season. The orange of the azaleas stood out against the mountains of Hakone. At the water's edge, kohone were blooming in the shadows of large leaves.
There was a notice on how to distinguish between iris, shobu, and kakitsubata. The iris is the one with a mesh pattern in the center of the flower. I found out that irises are often seen in Hakone wetland flower garden at this time of the year.
The onibuki (Gunnera manicata), which appears at the end of this video, is said to be the “plant with the world's largest leaves” that was created 150 million years ago. It is amazing.
I heard that it rains a lot in Hakone, and it was cloudy that day. The next day it rained heavily.
