We had a party at high school in The Hague in 1968, just one year before Venus was released. And some genius managed to have Shocking Blue play for us the entire evening. They played this song as well of course. That was fabulous :-) A class mate of mine even danced with Mariska during a break because I promised him a beer if he would dare to ask her. I could imagine this guy Paul Overman has been grateful to me for the rest of his life :-)

All fuzzed-up and everywhere to go-go, baby. Great memories of the late 60s with this one. What a lovely gal with a dynamic voice. Dig the bongos and the keyboards! This one was made to play LOUD! This is STILL king tone, baby!

such a GREAT band! in USA, they are barely known today, and even then usually as a "one-hit-wonder" .. "the band that made that song Bananarama remade" - but they are so much more. I remember the 2000's having this song on a CD and I would bike around with headphones into a backpack. This song would come on and I would jam out, and all the little bumps would make it skip sometimes.
I'm here because someone posted "Venus" on FB and I was like how come I don't know any of their other songs. Impressed so far.......with a voice like that any song can't be half bad if its already half good. But yeah this is even better than Venus.
Wow! I mean, Wow! I just heard this on the radio for the first time in my life and I'm 62! At first I thought it must be some deep cut of some early Rush, but then I realized it was a woman singing! Blown away! I had to hear the song again when I got home. Shocking Blue! I remember when Venus was a hit! Why wasn't Postcard a bigger hit? It's AWESOME!!!
No encuentro explicación en como estos genios crearon rock cuando apenas y se estaba formando el blues, 2024 y esta canción es una de las mejores que he escuchado
I had never even HEARD of this band until I decided to start watching "Hanna" tonight. I haven't heard much else worth listening to YET but THIS song is on my list now
I was curious who did this after watching the Hanna series. I originally thought it might be the Hungarian singer Sarolta Zalatnay since a lot of this production is Hungarian. I remember thinking how hot Sarolta was when I was young. Actually I look at pictures of her and still think she is hot. But, Mariska Veres is also amazingly hot as well. Both sound similar when they sing. I love this kind of music.
Was led to this tune by the Amazon Prime remake of "Hanna". Its the song at the end of the 3rd or 4th episode. I'm even from that era, and had only ever heard "Venus". This song is gold!
just love shocking blue! they were very punky too! mariska!? 😍 isnt she just the woman of my dreams! just love her dark, smouldering looks! they are so underrated! but to the fans they stand on the shoulders of giants!

Why was this not a bigger hit, it's awesome. She is a really good singer!
Because she is not American.😉
Say what? There's been a lot of great American female singers over the years, pal. Some of them legends. This lady does have a powerful voice, though.
@@Crezelltree4261 - No-one dismissed American singers. It was a point about Mariska's chances as a European singer.

You are still young, Benjamin 🤪

Today I heard it for first time... i just can't explain how it feels. it's the pure feeling of the epoque, everything in a song
Hello Raquel Tejero Martinez
Hearing this for the first time was a magical experience.
I know Venus is the song that they took to number 1, but this is their best song in my opinion. It has everything including an awesome bass line
I agree xx
Totally agree!
Rocks very hard for 1968, great tune and bass. Has like the raw energy punk but with groovy 60s clichés and its all the more brilliant for it
Like Jefferson Airplane, but mightier
I found it on a zero skate video, Zeros New Blood Tommy Sandovals part. I've been jamming this song since 2005. ua-cam.com/video/DE2Lyd1_zBg/v-deo.html
This must be one of the best basslines I've ever heard.
Thank you for pointing that out, now I have to go and learn it :D
@@vladyslavanufriiev1224 Good luck! I learned it recently and it's super fun to play!
They just wrote awesome bass lines
Apparently its also the inspiration for lounge act bassline by nirvana

Her voice is electrifying. Power & passion in her voice is unmatched in other songs.
What a voice! A real gift from heaven.

btw that video you refer to is such a masterpiece :D Probably one of he best I've ever seen (as it comes to action sports videos)
Psychedelia with a Dutch touch. A sound from my youth. Thanks for posting this!
When I was 12, Venus came out.. Loved it, had the 45 and turned over to the B side which I fell in love with also called Hot Sand
I've been completely in love with this song for a long while - it never loses its impact.
The drums go HARD on this

Love this band, incredible voice Mariska. Very sad to know that she is no longer with us.

Great band.. I wish they were more popular here in the US, where only their Venus was known.. On this song, she kind of sounded like Grace Slick
