The bassist is on fire. Send that man a postcard!
yeaaaa that Bassist is so cool!
pmfnr sadly he died last week...
Bertus Woudwijk what? Seriously?
That's the incomparable Klaasje van der Wal. He was my Facebook friend.
and mine too my friend. one of the best bass players ive ever had the pleasure to know, along with jack bruce (cream) - both gone but NEVER forgotten by us true heads. PEACE
We had a party at high school in The Hague in 1968, just one year before Venus was released. And some genius managed to have Shocking Blue play for us the entire evening. They played this song as well of course. That was fabulous :-) A class mate of mine even danced with Mariska during a break because I promised him a beer if he would dare to ask her.
I could imagine this guy Paul Overman has been grateful to me for the rest of his life :-)
That's sick!
Love your recount of your time spent in the presence of Shocking Blue.. what a great story
This needs to be top comment, love it!!
Fantastic!!
What a time period to live in! You are so lucky :)
What a fantastic voice she had, RIP Mariska
ZO goed he?
and now they are more than 152
Echt hè! 😊
Why was this not a bigger hit, it's awesome. She is a really good singer!
Because she is not American.😉
Say what? There's been a lot of great American female singers over the years, pal. Some of them legends. This lady does have a powerful voice, though.
@@craigezell4261 - No-one dismissed American singers. It was a point about Mariska's chances as a European singer.
I'm just now hearing this song. Shocking Blue's singer is a force of nature.
Yes, right said!
She certainly is.
I am 63 years old now...and this song takes me back to my young age....
You are still young, Benjamin 🤪
youth is in soul you know
Yes,baby.
I know Venus is the song that they took to number 1, but this is their best song in my opinion. It has everything including an awesome bass line
I agree xx
Totally agree!
Rocks very hard for 1968, great tune and bass. Has like the raw energy punk but with groovy 60s clichés and its all the more brilliant for it
Like Jefferson Airplane, but mightier
I found it on a zero skate video, Zeros New Blood Tommy Sandovals part. I've been jamming this song since 2005. ua-cam.com/video/DE2Lyd1_zBg/v-deo.html
This must be one of the best basslines I've ever heard.
Thank you for pointing that out, now I have to go and learn it :D
@@vladyslavanufriiev1224 Good luck! I learned it recently and it's super fun to play!
They just wrote awesome bass lines
Apparently its also the inspiration for lounge act bassline by nirvana
@@francesco9281 makes sense cause they covered love buzz
Today I heard it for first time... i just can't explain how it feels. it's the pure feeling of the epoque, everything in a song
Hello Raquel Tejero Martinez
Hearing this for the first time was a magical experience.
I can listen to this a thousand times and it still has the same level of energy. Chainsaw guitar, strict drums, legendary bass line and one of the best world-class vocals of her time. Absolutly love it! 😎✌
What a voice! A real gift from heaven.
Timeless song. Very powerful.
Her voice is electrifying. Power & passion in her voice is unmatched in other songs.
Psychedelia with a Dutch touch. A sound from my youth. Thanks for posting this!
When I was 12, Venus came out.. Loved it, had the 45 and turned over to the B side which I fell in love with also called Hot Sand
Love this band, incredible voice Mariska. Very sad to know that she is no longer with us.
Before loneliness will break my heart,
Send me a postcard darling.
How can I make you understand?
I wanna be your woman.
Here, here I'm waiting for a little sign,
Waiting 'til the end of time.
Send me a postcard darling.
Send me a postcard now.
Send me a postcard darling.
Send me a postcard now.
I can't take the lonely night,
I need someone I can turn to.
Look out for the day I get a little sign,
I want to know you're all mine, now..
now please don't let me down, ain't no lover like me in town.
Send me a postcard darling.

@ryan williams the hell you talking about you fucking loser
goddamn I've never thumbed down to comment as fast as your fucking stupid one in my whole life..
@ryan williams seems no one ask you to spew your seething hatred either but here we are. Fuck tard.

In general, if you are English-speaking, it is easy for you to perceive the text, but for me, as a Russian-speaking, it's good that someone wrote the text. you dumbass
The drums go HARD on this
wow so underrated!
All fuzzed-up and everywhere to go-go, baby. Great memories of the late 60s with this one. What a lovely gal with a dynamic voice. Dig the bongos and the keyboards! This one was made to play LOUD! This is STILL king tone, baby!

hangisi orijinal?
I've been completely in love with this song for a long while - it never loses its impact.
Even better than "Venus". Very underrated band, to say the least.
I'm here because someone posted "Venus" on FB and I was like how come I don't know any of their other songs. Impressed so far.......with a voice like that any song can't be half bad if its already half good. But yeah this is even better than Venus.
Agreed. More California here I come.
Much, much better than Venus! By far my favorite song from Shocking Blue I heard so far.
Now this is what they called ROCK MUSIC !!!
Really tight band. A forgotten art that needs to be rediscovered.
Awesome redbull video brought me here. Thank you redbull for opportunity to find a great band
btw that video you refer to is such a masterpiece :D Probably one of he best I've ever seen (as it comes to action sports videos)
Her energetic sound is really exclusive. She,s gone and doesn't exist now. I'ĺ remember that she was a very great vocalist.
Well she exists within all art i.e vocal interpretations she made in life as all artist do once they pass away.
This was my song back in high school sneaking Into the colleges and skating the stair cases and gaps 🇺🇸🤟🔥❤️
Simple magic ... everything seems to be simple. And the soul is blissful)) I have been listening for 40 years periodically and nothing has changed - Mariska is super !!!
She was a fox,too.
His guitar sound is amazing 😱
such a GREAT band! in USA, they are barely known today, and even then usually as a "one-hit-wonder" .. "the band that made that song Bananarama remade" - but they are so much more. And anyone who has the interest to delve into their musical catalog quickly realizes what a talented group this was. They tackled many different genres in way that not many people did at the time (similar to Blondie) - always with an addictive, catchy hook that yanked you in. And then there's Mariska Veres! What a great voice! Deep, husky, strong, soulful and with that irresistible thick Dutch accent.
I LOVE THIS BAND!
Mariska Veres!
missing you 4 ever !!
thank you so much for great music my dear and Rest in Peace my dear traveller musician !!!!
hug from The Hague, Holland.
Jb olé Hungária ❤
That urgent, plaintive voice makes it all meaningful.

Right! xD
Correct 😅
Me too 😂
you brought me to that video :)
The Goddess of Music with the magic voice! Beautiful💞
Hanna brought me here.. That second episode was amazing!!
Hanna bought me here to..!!
the whole train station scene was EPIC
I was curious who did this after watching the Hanna series. I originally
thought it might be the Hungarian singer Sarolta Zalatnay since a lot
of this production is Hungarian. I remember thinking how hot Sarolta was when I was young.
Actually I look at pictures of her and still think she is hot. But,
Mariska Veres is also amazingly hot as well. Both sound similar when they sing.
I love this kind of music.
Hmmm, I looked into Mariska Veres and found out her father
was Hungarian. Hmmm. Maybe that is why she sounds similar
to Sarilta Zalatnay.
me too
What a great band
What a great band, I wouldn't have heard of them if it wasn't for Nirvana's cover of Love Buzz. So awesome
One of the best bands of the Netherlands!💕
So many old tunes have killer bass lines.
So true 👍
Killer base lines seem to be a dying art- sigh.
Tommy Sandoval’s part in Zero New Blood! Such a good skate part and great use of this song!!
a man of culture here
@@mvteuz appreciate you 😘
If you know you know
Alaska Country, Send Me A Postcard, Scorpio's Dance и конечно Daemon Lover.
I had never even HEARD of this band until I decided to start watching "Hanna" tonight. I haven't heard much else worth listening to YET but THIS song is on my list now
You haven’t heard “venus”? Surely you’ve heard that but just didn’t know that they did the original version for the song
"Rules of engagement, Mr. K?"
"Sponge me boy... There are no rules."
Civilians I think you meant to say enemies combatants. Me boy.
Sponge me boy, we're on vacation!

She’s got a Grace Slick vibe going on..
@@LarsTragel-zh7ei I don't know much about Slick's personal life, but she sure could sing
has a feel of somebody to love, cant decide which i like better. both amazing. only just found out they wrote love buzz! how is this band not as well known as the legendary bands? they rock!
Man what I have been missing!! Thank you Hanna!!
The distorted guitar and bass guitar unison in the intro would fit well to the first album of Black Sabbath as well.
Gracias!!!
Had to give up on 'Hanna' after the second episode. Too silly for this 70 year old. But it brought me back to this song. My brother and I drove my van from SoCal to Texas in '71 to go to college. The only cassettes we had for the trip were this, a Black Sabbath and Aqualung.
NEW BLOOD!!
"Send me a postcard Hanna." 😉😉
The show brought me here.

Thiis song gives me goosebumps......rest in peace 🙏
What a great band! Kisess from Poland 🇵🇱
My favorite track so far from the TV show Hanna. It's the end credits music for Season 1 Epsiode 2.
Voziiii!!!
That's pretty metal o_O Never realized how hard Shocking Blue got!
Todavía me siguen gustando.
Great band.. I wish they were more popular here in the US, where only their Venus was known.. On this song, she kind of sounded like Grace Slick
The first time I heard this on Radio Veronica, with its poor reception, I really thought it was Grace Slick.
cantstopsinging I'm a die-hard Jefferson Airplane fan (and Blue Öyster Cult but that's got nothing to do with it) so no wonder I loved Shocking Blue when I found them. Definitely have similarities.
Embarrassing to admit but I thought "Venus" was WRITTEN by that 80s band. I'm so pleased to have been corrected.
I thought this was another Mattiel song as in Hanna episode 6, very similar, both awesome.
Sorry but she's clearly a better singer than Alike
Absolutely kicking bass
Yes, I just watched Hanna
22 people never got a postcard.
:)))
unfortunately its now 126 people who never received a postcard... what a shame XD
Send yourself a postcard when there's nothing left to lose.
Ya mum did.
hahaha
Heavy riff sexxy voice classic
Me too! I arrived at this song through the movie! Never heard before!
Wow! I mean, Wow! I just heard this on the radio for the first time in my life and I'm 62! At first I thought it must be some deep cut of some early Rush, but then I realized it was a woman singing! Blown away! I had to hear the song again when I got home. Shocking Blue! I remember when Venus was a hit! Why wasn't Postcard a bigger hit? It's AWESOME!!!
I am 23 and I really like this vibe...

their best song
What a great song! love it 😀
just love shocking blue! they were very punky too! mariska!? 😍 isnt she just the woman of my dreams! just love her dark, smouldering looks! they are so underrated! but to the fans they stand on the shoulders of giants!
Was led to this tune by the Amazon Prime remake of "Hanna". Its the song at the end of the 3rd or 4th episode. I'm even from that era, and had only ever heard "Venus". This song is gold!
2nd
Loving the catchy drumming
Sehr starker song !!!

Heard this for the first time on BBC Radio 6 today. Absolute tune. Rhythm section is on 🔥
Love this song.........Thank you,Shocking Blue!
Someone told me this sounds like Nirvana's Lounge Act. It doesn't but wow I may have just found a new favorite band
today Kris Novoselic includes this song in his first playlist
The bassline, nirvana....
Guitars sound very much like Mudhoney too
The bassist of Nirvana Kriss commented once that "the bassline from Lounge Act is inspired by a song by Shocking Blue - Send me a postcard" Could that maybe be connected to why some people would think that the sound simuliar to another?
Kurt was influenced by 60s garage rock...definitely loved his Lenny Kaye Nuggets...wasn't this on one of them?
"Rose Island a.k.a. L'incredibile Storia dell'isola delle Rose" brought me here.

Anche io. And there are lots of stories of other micronations that worth a read! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micronation
Just sheer appreciation of Dutch rock music brought me here. The rest is just bullshit.
This is my favorite song of Shocking Blue, i listen it every day. Greetings from Perú🇵🇪 2022
It's 2023 almost 24... and this still sounds amazing...
Love this song rock on shocking blue
WoW, this song is over 50 years old, and it’s KICK ASS.
It’s criminal that I’m only hearing this now.
OUTSTANDING!!
Makes me wanna get drunk and then dance by myself!!
back then in times when most male musicians couldnt afford a shirt or haircut.
I recommend you Mavi Işıklar-Aşk Çiçeği (it is similar)
Also a Razor to shave chest hair
😂. Let's not forget that Eddie Van Halen wore the same shirt for the entirety of 1984.... And the guy was rich.
😂😂😂
Lucky they had a good tune or two in their back pockets then for a rainy day
I am so in love with this voice!
God bless you, Shocking Blue! Love this Send me a postcard....
