    One of the aspects of this hobby that I love most is that it makes us broadly better people. If you really get into aquariums, whether fresh or salt water, you have much to learn: carpentry, plumbing, hydrodynamics, lighting, chemistry, microbiology, math, engineering; the list goes on. Our hobby simultaneously demands and creates knowledge and competence, all while demonstrating creativity and respect for life, as we can see here.

      Brilliantly said.
      I also personally love that the aquarium hobby has people from such a diverse background it's a niche hobby that in some way somehow everyone can enjoy.

      That really does put into context why this hobby never gets old, just so many levels to it, can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. 😉

      Nicely put.. if the hobby bites hard you are constantly trying to improve the quality of the habitat you are providing your fish, I’m planning my next tank setup as I really want to make a large Lake Tanganyika community of shell dwellers, crevice dwellers and open water swimmers I have a 206gal system so that should support the fish I’d like to put together…

    You need to create a compilation of this build that will go viral when this is finished. 37k subscribers is a travesty for this level of fish keeping. Hope all is going well!

    Great work. You need check valves on each one of those pumps. If you don't the Wetland will backflow the moam back in your tank when the power/water shuts off.

    • @AquariumDomain.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому +1

      The plan is to prevent that with the internal water flow, because you are 100% correct that without serious top water agitation and water flow a serious protein buildup will occur 😉

  • @chickenfist1554
    @chickenfist1554 7 місяців тому +5

    It's looking awesome. Just an idea for the pumps. If you attach a long piece of pipe to two of them, with a union at the top, they could draw water from down low in the aquarium and still be easily removable for cleaning. I'm sure you could also put aquatic plants in the river bank too. Once they get longer their leaves will grow underwater. Pothos would grow on top of the return pipes and root down into the water :D

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому +2

      You know me...at some point all of my tanks end up with Pothos growing out of them lol 😁 In regards to drawing water from lower down, I am going to have a massive amount of internal water flow (separate from the wetland) that is going to keep everything suspended in the water column. I learned from keeping the big boys in the 3000 gallon which lacked sufficient internal water flow....big time 😁😁

    First off, I'm happy your wife is feeling better. Great seeing all the progress, I'm so excited for the aquascape. Love everything you're doing. I would use leca balls as the growing medium for those planters. They bind up nutrients from the water very well and give the plants something to be propped up by, as well as give the roots something to hold onto. They're not overly expensive; they're used for aquaponics. Looking forward to the next video. Hope you and your family have a happy Thanksgiving. Take care.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому

      They won't skim directly from the surface, but I have 12,000 gph of internal water flow (separate from the wetland pumps) to keep plenty of surface agitation and keep the bottom of the aquarium with plenty of laminar currents. 😁

    You could use smart WiFi plugs for the lights for easy control via WiFi app and not bother with timers. Could you explain how you use the flush out system on the filter? Awesome build-I could just imagine a saltwater/reef system this size…

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому +1

      Basically the solids and mulm build up in the open cavity of water below the rocks. The clean out tubes allow for a pump or hose to be put down into the bottom of the filter to remove the build up of solids/mulm.

    • @MW-ut3dk
      @MW-ut3dk 7 місяців тому +1

      @@AquariumDomain. That’s what I thought but do you ever remove the media ie all the rocks and gravel, for cleaning/rinsing? I know sand filters can be backflushed to remove all the trapped dirt but didn’t know if this was possible with this filter. I’m assuming you flush out the dirt at the bottom of the filter below the media but doesn’t that dirt then flow into the aquarium or into the media? Or do you use a second hose to siphon out the dirt as you flush with the first hose? Or do you just pump out the solids via a sump pump like a septic tank? I’m probably overthinking this 🧐

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому

      @@MW-ut3dk Yeah if it was really clogged up I would hose it from the top while running the clean out sump pump and work the muck out. It is much less likely to get that clogged up in an indoor setting like mine since it isn't processing all the junk that gets into outdoor ponds where you typically see this type of filtration. Also I am on well water so no loss of bacteria if I have the rocks down.

  • @Ian-qw1zb
    @Ian-qw1zb 7 місяців тому +2

    I like the clean outs but I would have took the up tube and cut a castle cut in the bottom and put it all the way down to the bottom with the slots down it will still pull all the mulm out. I'd just be afraid of zip ties failing after some time, you have to dig a lot of rocks to replace a couple zip ties I would go nuts LOL. Awesome setup can't wait to see it stocked and up and running all lit up.

    • @ivanfahler
      @ivanfahler 7 місяців тому

      I had the same idea when I saw the video. The cable ties eventually become brittle and break. It would be a real pain to take all the stones out then 😵‍💫

    • @ezwaters5847
      @ezwaters5847 7 місяців тому +2

      That was my initial thought as well, but the rocks will be acting horizontally on the clean out tubes and not vertically. As the rock gets compressed around the tubes, it will probably help hold the tubes in place irrespective of the zip ties. And keeping the tubes off the tank bottom gives him more flexibility for moving a pump or suction tube around down there.👍

      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому

      I couldn't say any better 😉

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  7 місяців тому +1

      Pretty much boils down to how @ezwaters5847 described it, that after all the rock is in place the clean tubes won't moving being so heavily braced in all directions. 😉

    • @Ian-qw1zb
      @Ian-qw1zb 7 місяців тому +1

      No totally get it I know the rocks are going to hold it in place but I feel like it would strengthen it more being down deeper plus with the slots it would create a stronger current sucking into the tube therefore it would probably pull in more detritus through the smaller slits, because let's face it 4 ft down a four or six inch tube how much flexibility are you really going to have down there it's just going to drop straight down.. not trying to be argumentative just trying to make my point..

    This is a fantastic build. I have a question or two. How about electrical precautions? Did you run a dedicate circuit for the pump from your panel box? Lots of sheetrock patching? What if there's a power failure? DO you have a backup generator to keep from loosing expensive fish? DO you have a dehumidifier running to keep mold from growing in the room? Lots of black paint there, I'm afraid you'll miss it growing till the room in trouble. Is there big enough floor drain to accomodate a massive fail if the worst happens? Such a monumental build needs treated like pubblicato aquariums are built. I don't mean to be the voice of door but with the cautions you've taken so far, I might hVe missed you talking about these points. Great work so far though, I'm extremely impressed.

      You are putting me to work Joe 😉, ok here goes:
      1) Yes, the fish room has 3 dedicated circuits run to it with GFI.
      2) I have a backup generator and K1 kerosene heating system in case of a power failure
      3) I have a dehumidifier and 2 ductless mini split systems that also cool, heat & dehumidify
      4) I monitor and control both temperature and humidity very closely, this is all in my house after all 😉
      5) Main basement has floor drains, annex does not; however, I know from experience that water will readily run out under door jams lol 😉
      6) Trust me nobody has more vested interest in my build holding water than me, I truly overbuild everything 😉
