Spinning from the FOLD vs. from the END - YARN COMPARISON | Let's Spin This! 4 - From the Fold Pt.2

  • Today's video we will be looking at a few different things. First, we will look at this gorgeous fiber in our 4th episode of Let's Spin This! Today is an 85% merino wool 15% bamboo blend. It is from the Bambino collection and the colorway is called Hickory Dickory (Disclaimer: The fiber in this video came in a type of sample pack. This assumption is from researching the color and feel of the fiber, so it may not be the exact fiber in the video, but it should be lol)
Second, we will be comparing our skein spun from the end in this video, with the finished skein from our "spinning from the fold part 1" video where we spun half of this fiber from the fold linked here:
    • Spinning from THE FOLD...
(There is also LOTS of great info on spinning from the fold in this video linked above if you are interested!)
I will be updating you all hopefully in the next video where I have been and why I am not currently on a strict upload schedule of 1 video per week. Please, no need to worry everything is fine and I am feeling a lot better as of now. I hope to get back to regular uploads very soon! Please hit the BELL icon to be notified of when I upload next if you do not want to miss a video! Thank you all so so much for your patience and understanding! I love you all and have missed you so much!

Thank you so much for making this video. I have plied from a center pull ball before and I struggled with it tangling. You are the first that I have seen that explained the turning of the ball. Game changer for me. Again Thank you!

You are very welcome! That is one of the aims of my channel, is to bring to my viewers some of the important tips that a lot of the other UA-camrs don't necessarily talk about! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! I am so glad it helped you it means so much!

I love how the colors look from the fold they aren't as muted, but the fiber looks gorgeous either way. :)

    They are both beautiful spins!
The one spun from the ends, I don’t see it as “muddy”. It has a kind of “glow” to it that the other doesn’t.
The one spun from the fold just has more “pop”.

Hi Rayne, I'm so glad that you're ok.
Life does throw us some challenges at times that we can't do anything about.
Thankyou for doing a comparison spin.
The one on the right was definitely from the fold. The colours stayed truer.
    Happy Spinning
Take care and stay safe Dear Friend

Hello Jen, it has been awhile, but I am so happy to say I am finally feeling much better! Filming an update and a few other ideas coming soon! Yes, big changes are in the works, but they are exciting, I will let everyone know in this next video where I have been! I have missed your comments and being able to upload weekly, will be working hard to get back into it. I hope you are doing good as well! This was a very interesting experiment and was eye-opening to see the results!
Sending you big hugs and hoping you are doing well!
Happy Spinning see you soon! -Rayne

Thanks for this video. I might give this technique a go now I can see a practical application. This was really informative.i cake upon your channel when you scoured a fleece. I'm really interested in fibre prep and combining alpaca and mohair just because I have these 2 breeds. Early days but any fibre content and spinning you can show us would be very welcome. Thanks again. Cindy

I have lots of videos on combing and processing alpaca, check out my playlist; the how to process fiber series. A lot of them are alpaca! I will for sure have some mohair videos coming soon as I have a few pounds of it as well. Thank you so much for your comment and suggestions, they are always appreciated!

@@RayneFiberArts Hi Rayne, I'm so glad that you're all good. I've really missed you too 💓. I'm looking forward to seeing your video podcast this week. Just do what you can UA-cam can wait if it has to. You and your Family are far more important. I know trying to work when you have a young family and the hard work with them isn't always easy. Life sometimes also gets in the way, we just have to take the rough with the smooth .
You don't need to tell us where you've been, you don't owe us any explanation. I value our friendship so much.
Hope you've managed to have some Fibre Fun.
Take care and stay safe my dear Fibre Friend.

This is very useful. Thanks for the video! I can now look at the colors in my fiber and, hopefully, take a decision on how I want the colors to be in the final yarn.

I really enjoyed this comparison. I've just spun up 8 ounces of Bambino "Hickory Dickory" from the fold and am knitting it into socks. I figured spinning from the end would muddy the colours. But I'm amused...the dye lot I received had a LOT more pink in it than yours!

Running the roving through a drum carder for a batt could produce a wider fold to work with (I'm not a pro but I've seen this done).
