I’m glad you actually kept the jet pack. While I like other artists putting their interpretations to Six Hundred Strike, I also feel like people were way too hard on the canon version. The 3D Animation while being an acquired taste, in my opinion was still very good, I can get other people not liking it, but at the same time I feel people were too harsh on the 3D Animation just because it was 3D animation. The Jet pack, in my opinion, is a cool and unique way of making the windbag usable. I feel like people were too harsh on the canon animatic we got.

My problem with the jetpack is that it doesn't make sense for the wind to come out in a controlled stream like that, he should be wizzing around like a balloon with a leak, not performing precision aerial combat. And even if it was coming out as a jet stream, he should be constantly moving until the bag deflates, not pausing to make his monolog. I'm not saying the jetpack idea isn't cool, it is, I just need at least a token amount of respect to be paid towards physics for myself to be able to enjoy it, even if that's as simple as him keeping one hand on the bag so he can throttle it's output for some control, I just need something to help me suspend my disbelief.

@ that understandable but then again Jorge did state that this saga was meant to the most anime of the sagas and anime rarely follow physics especially in fight scenes. I know that may not be enough, but even in Charybdis when Odysseus was moving around her, there wasn’t really realistic physics with that, but I can still understand where you’re coming from.

@@SkyJustDontCare My problem is that there isn't much that I'd point to as being "anime" in the saga until this moment at the very end. It was jarring to me. And this is coming from a person who likes anime. And I've seen several other animations/animatics of this song that don't use CG, so saying it is the CG doesn't work for me. The idea for the showdown came out of left field in this scene with the jet-pack where most of the rest of Ody's quest felt more grounded and believable for a mortal man, but still containing supernatural elements like monsters and gods coming after him. You had that for several sagas, and then suddenly a DBZ aerial fight with a windbag that feels different from how the wind bag operated the last time it was used. The wind bag was more chaotic, and seemed to be a struggle for Ody and Eurolychus together to simply close it up again before they are helplessly forced to the Land of the Giants by the power contained in the bag. Not a focused gust of wind that could be controlled by a single man to accurately fly around, perform aerial attacks, and even control the output to let him hover.
Had there been more "anime moments" to prime people for this conclusion it might have been easier to accept. But I honestly can't think of another scene that could be anime that wasn't already in the original story and they were all performed by gods and monsters. Heck, if he'd chosen to tone done some of the jetpack moments, showing Ody struggling, not as in control of it, and making use of his brains to manipulate the bag to target or bewilder Posiedon until the trident fell (plus no hovering in place), it might have worked just a little better, too. Heck, maybe he could have had Athena secretly gift Ody something through Hermes with a warning to only open if he needed it or once he reached his home. That gift could have been an owl from Athena to help him. The owl could have aided him with flying (like Athena's wings used in the first part of the animation for the canon "Love in Paradise") and the bag could have been used solely as a weapon against Poseidon. Something like that just off the top of my head.
And even if anime doesn't obey physics, most of the good anime/manga (much like any decent story from any medium, not just anime) try to give an in-world explanation for breaking physics. Like DBZ uses ki (the source of most powers in DBZ) techniques to levitate the person and fly. Or the person is magical and can use spells or elemental abilities to fly. Usually requiring lessons and training before using it with any efficiency. Ody's use of the wind bag is a stretch since the bag is full of a storm and I can't imagine many people who follow this musical would have even entertained the idea of the wind bag operated as a jetpack. So, again, another jarring aspect as it defies what we thought of the windbag being only a useful but dangerous tool that was suppose to contain the storm that blocked Ody's path home.
I think Jorge just didn't know how to write the conclusion with a satisfying and conclusive showdown with Poseidon and Odysseus and relied on that kind of easy to write DBZ type bash fest to get Ody out of the predicament he wrote him into. Ody was facing a stubborn and ruthless god, after all. And then used "anime" as an excuse for not coming up with a narratively consistent end. And I think that is why people aren't really feeling the end. I'm not blaming Jorge or anything. Ending a story is always hard and he's adapting someone else's story. A story he intensified when it came to the far more extreme antagonism and ideology of Poseidon when it came to his persecution of Odysseus. That, and it wouldn't be as satisfying a story if Ody managed to get home because Poseidon gives up when the Phaecians (loyal followers of Poseidon) give Ody a boat ride home. So he had to invent an outcome rather than rely on the original narrative. Furthermore, he's more of a composer than a writer, too. And I do very much enjoy the music/vocals. I just find it to be a narrative cop-out and not really fair to anime to say you should just accept it because "anime doesn't make sense". Most anime do make sense in the world their writers create. Even anime aren't forgiven when they don't make sense in the established world and narrative, or elements change or come out of nowhere to force an outcome or preferred ending.
There are plenty of anime that establish in-world explanations for supernatural elements. Plenty of anime that prime people for elements that come into the story more significantly later so it prepares the audience for new things. Had he done that previously with Epic, laying that sort of groundwork (even indicating Ody using the first bag to direct where the ship went, rather than everything sounding completely out of their hands as they speed off until they hit Circe's island), I think people wouldn't be this bewildered and disappointed with the canon version. I just wish he could have found someone to help him write a better ending is all.

@@xel1673 fair, it’s fine if you don’t like it, im not saying you have to like it. And there are good points to your argument. The thing I see with some of the sagas that have come out is there is point where finding problems with something becomes more a norm than anything. This doesn’t even go for this saga only, I’ve seen a plentiful people complaining about the fact that the God’s blood not being gold, even when Gwendy specifically answered people still have that much of a problem with the one simple thing. Something as small as that caused people to be upset. And here with the windbag it just feels like the same thing, I really don’t get how people can be this hung up on something like this, maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s bias, but in my opinion the amount of negative commotion that has come from something like a “wind bag jet pack” is frustrating. It just feels like there’s been an extreme amount of dislike for something like this, the point where every animatic that comes out that doesn’t feature it is filled with comments about how much better it is. It’s probably just me and my bias to it, but it is just extremely frustrating to see this much negative connotation around the windbag jet pack. Sorry if this just sounds like rant, but this whole situation is just extremely infuriating to me. And it probably is just me. Again not sure if this will sound hypocritical or contradictory, I usually speak with more of my heart than head when I get frustrated, but not saying you have to like it, Im just letting out my emotions most likely.

Absolutely!!! And I think if you still wanna go the “divine intervention” route with the jetpack it still works, it’s not like just strapping a bag of wind to you back automatically makes you able to fly, there could easily be more going on there. Idk, random thought.

I actually like the implication that Ody's men leant him their strength at the end of Get in the Water, so instead of dealing 600 actual strikes, he did a singular one with the force of 600 men.
Makes the title of 600 Strike make a bit more sense. It isn't called 600 Strikes, after all.

If I may play devils advocate here, it's also been interpreted as a command ("Six Hundred, Strike!"), hence "strike" not being plural. But Ody attacking with the force of 600 men is an equally cool interpretation!!

The 600 Men having any effect on the battle makes the most sense to me. Consider how the Ensemble is supposed to refer to the divine only. The fact that the echoed 600 Men seem to be buffing Ody and not Poseidon shows that he's receiving so sort of supernatural backing from the spirits of his comrades.

This animatic has my favorite expressions/emotions for these two, Odysseus looks furious with that cold kind of anger that I think contrasts Poseidon's explosive fury in Ruthlessness so well (also, while I do like animatics that make Poseidon still seem fierce and angry as he's attacked by Odysseus, I always imagined him as pained and despserate as this animatic makes him seem, especially in contrast to how smug he looks just moments prior. The realization on his face is so good)

I have a little head cannon that while in the underworld Hades started watching Odey and rooted for him (as someone who loves his own wife). So when he was dying (check out the song before this one) Hades came in a gave a little bit of Godly powers to him (it also helps the Hades LOVES messing with his siblings (Zeus and Poseidon)

Exesaturated, please don't listen to comments like these. This is such an unnecessary comparison and people seem to forget that animatics aren't supposed to be "god-like", they're like a stage between a story board and an actual animation. We're so lucky in the Epic community to get professional level animations for this musical that I think some fans forget that's not the standard that everyone needs to be held to. Your animatic is wonderful and I think it goes to show your talent even more that the emotion is so raw and the story is so clear even with less frames than a fully fleshed animation. Which, again, this isn't even meant to be. It's like comparing apples to oranges, they're not the same art form, so they shouldn't be using animations as examples to bash your animatic that I can tell you worked very hard on. You're doing an amazing job, and I enjoyed watching your animatic, keep up the great work! :)
