    Jared, Greetings from San Diego. Thank you so much for this in-depth dive into specific elements of the VE 500. I have been gigging with mine at least once a week for approximately two years and have yet to squeeze all the magic out of it as you obviously have. Your incredibly powerful voice lends quite well to the tutorial and future inspiration. All the best to you. Subscribed.

    I'm not a lead vocalist. I only do backup vocals. This tool looks promising. I need to understand more about switching scenes for each song in a setlist not only for harmonized patches during certain segments of a live performance but one song has a heavy flange section on the very end of the song. Thank you Jared. I hope you can help demonstrate how to accomplish my needs with this tool.

    Vocal effects with so many processors out there to choose from and its litterally hair pulling trying to decide which one to buy,
    I perform a one man show and I really do not have time to be pushing and fiddling with buttons and settings on stage
    right now after watching your video here I am even more confused, I love the way you explained this boss ve-500
    and in fairness the effects sound excellent, I will be looking more into this pedal for sure before making that final decision
    right now i have just purchased the Lexicon rack unit MPX 500 , used it one night in a sound check and just reverted back to the onboard mixer internal effects , not the best but works , i like my reverb and little delay on my vocals and just want something i can quickly change live on stage if i need to , I do not need to colour my vocals at all with pitch or the cheating auto tune , dont even ask me to sing with auto tune
    but before i seen your video , I was checking out the voice live play and the TC electronics mic mechanic 2 ,
    I have seen a guy while I was on holidays in Gran Canaria using the tc voice play on stage and honestly it was a laugh , completely over used and it actually ruined this guy although he thought it was amazing , even thinking back I laugh , so bringing me back to your
    boss pedal here , I think it may be what i am looking for , what is your opinion , I do not want to sound like any artist just be myself, good simple vocal effects reverb / delay and a little harmony now and then ,all at the press of a foot switch, how easy is the boss ve 500 to set up from the get go and do it actually save your setting , I will have to go over your video again here in case I missed out on something

    Question. Does the VE 500 also process the sound of the guitar along with the vocal effects and harmonies? This is an annoying nightmare with other vocal processors that use the guitar to track the key for the vocals, especially with acoustic guitar that sounds wonky when vocal harmonies or processing is on.

  • @thelovebroadcast

    Hey there - nice video. I just bought one not long ago, and I'm having a really had time not getting feedback using the distortion effect. Of course everything sounds great through headphones, but during rehearsal in a live setting, the distortion effect (which is why I bought it - we have a few songs that this vocal effect is imperative), it will feedback as soon as I select this patch. I've turned noise reduction all the way to 100 (this is sort of like a gate? The naming on some of these settings are really weird). Any tips on this? Thanks so much!

    • @JaredGunstonTV
      @JaredGunstonTV  2 роки тому +3

      You checked your gain isn't pushing too hard? I'd also try a patch without distortion and let your mic feed and use the notch filter to kill the feed on your mic see if that helps. Lastly, reduce gain on the distortion. I use the telephone type sound which is pretty close to distortion without any issues my side.

    • @VajrahahaShunyata

      Good advice, I found the same w the ve-8

    Nice work! Curious if you've had the TC Helicon products to compare to? I"m a Play Acoustic owner and not happy about the lack of controls. It also seems to add a touch of latency which might just be part of the game with these pedals?

    • @JaredGunstonTV
      @JaredGunstonTV  2 роки тому +2

      mmm latency on the Boss? No... you may be noticing my video being slightly out of sync which is a contant issue i'm fighting with. But as for Helicon, i've known guys who sold theirs to go smaller. The VE-500 is a great vocal unit and I still use mine today, as a preamp and fx unit its built like a tank and sounds great. I haven't had the chance to compare though. I think Helicon has a great rep in the market though.

    Hi Jared, great video! Hey, do you know if it's possible to set up a patch where the harmony function could be toggled not only on/off, but switched between one harmony voice or two harmony voices? Like whether an external switch could be used to select between a one voice or two voice? So that within the same pre set patch, a performer could have control of harmony on / off with one switch, and the number of voices by assigning an external switch to control that functionality?

      @@JaredGunstonTV Thank you very much. I will purchase then an RC-10R for Rythm & Looper and will be looking to purchase the ve-500 to work vocals only. I don't know if you have checkout the RC-500 midi sync with the RC-10R. I don't know yet if its possible, but if is possible to make them work together then the RC-500 will be the food pedal looper for voice and the RC-10R will be recording the guitar and controlling the Rythm section. I already have the RC-10R and it works as a charm for live performances, specially for playing live my original songs. You should try it if you haven't. The intros, the fills and the ending worth every dollar invested. Will be super cool if it can sync via midi with the RC-500 so we can record voice in sync with the unique features of the RC-10R. What do you think about that combination?

      It's definately doable with CC#, perhaps you need help with running more then 1 device and having each on it's own CHANNEL? I'll gladly assist - it's on my list of "to-dos" to do a rig run down and how it all works where i basically do exactly that via bluetooth midi. But if you're well versed (or at least can get by like myself), its as simple as setting your MS to send a specific CC# lets say CC#20 on CH3 (assuming you'd make you're VE-500 on CHANNEL 3 in its settings), and then on the VE-500 side, Assign 1, Source: cc#20, moment, FX1,2,3 or 4, you'll find each effect and all its underlying effect just after VOCODER, MIN 0, MAX 127, and turng the assign on - you should be good to go! Just make sure you have your midi RX (recieve channel) on 3, omni either on or off, i can't remember off hand, PC IN set to ON, and that's about it.

      @@JaredGunstonTV I will definitely try that. I'll let you know how it went. Thank you a lot. You are responsible for making me buy the ve-500, just to let you know. And I haven't regretted it a single day. I have to confess that first I purchased the VE-8, but dare to buy the VE-500 and now I use only the VE-500 for my vocals. I have more than 10 boss midi pedals and I'm right now limited by the 4 midi channel controls the MS-3 has. I learned to program there and call my pedals with the Midi Channels, but don't know how to program with the Assign section which has 8 Assigns in the same bank number. I'm still learning. This is a lot of trial & error. Right now I'm controlling the OD-200, IR-200, MD-500, RV-500, DD-500, RC-10R, RC-500, EQ-200, SY-200 & trying to program the VE-500, but not yet succesful. For example: I want to push pedal #1 on the MS-3 and change my distortion to a Radio Sound Like, and also my voice in the VE-500 to the radio fx. Then push the #2 pedal on my MS-3 and change to my normal distortion with my normal voice setting. That's why I need to program the VE-500 using the MS-3 as a controller and avoid the Tap Dancing between pedals. I will try your configuration suggestions. Once more thank you for your time. I will let you know how it went. Blessings!

    • @thetruthexperiment
      @thetruthexperiment 2 роки тому

      I've had this problem and it all stopped when I switched from a condenser to a dynamic. I used to love the AKG 414 but honestly I've grown out of it and I really like more mid range. My voice has good midrange so there's no point in killing it. I dont know what mic you're using but if you are using a phantom power mic, Id suggest using a dynamic mic. I use an RE20 now and everything works much better. This pedal is made for live situations mostly. Condensers just have way to much high and low. It messes with the formant for sure. Try an SM58/57/SM7b or an RE20. Or really anything that isnt phantom powered. That being said, you need a mic booster. For example the CM-1. Actually no, the VE500 has enough boost on its own but the CM-1 mic booster is made for large dynamic mics and it uses phantom power for non phantom power mics. I hope that made sense. If you're already using a dynamic mic I dont know how to help.
