So you guys have not heard or watched much stuff from El Pampero Cine? (the Argentinian cinema collective that Trenque Lauquen is part of, and notably they don't take any government grants and don't take any investments that would interfere with any creative decisions) Their major outputs are amazing (La Flor, Extraordinary Stories, The Gold Bug, The Little Match Girl, etc) and offers rather fresh alternatives in this "serious festival arthouse focusing on serious issues" climate (and not to say they don't talk about serious issues on the contrary The Gold Bug and The Little Match Girl are very strong in message but also delivered in delightful ways). They are gradually becoming mainstream in the sense that their recent outputs start showing up in Berlin and Venice but idk, I'm happy to feel that their stuff is still too cool to be considered prestigious enough by major festivals or serious critics, for some reason, even though I think they are really, really fun in the Latin America literary tradition, with sprawling labyrinthine structures and self-reflective meta-narratives and just somehow criminally under-appreciated.

Totally agree on past lives. What about Ceylan's "About dry grasses" & Koreeda's "Monster"? i am surprised that they have not made it to the list if you guys have watched em.
“Passsges” was probably the worst film I watched it the last 2-3 years or so. Just a confirmation of how bad Exarchopoulos and Rogowski (“charismatic” LOL) are. Post Dolan euro-indie emptiness with paper thin flat characters. Strong 0/10. I had to watch some of the 80s Rohmer as a antidote right after that garbage.Garbage that even fails at being pretentious. I can’t believe you fell for it :

we didn't get a chance to see the Ceylan (yet!); Monster was ok - just felt it was a little drifty and lacking.
