Thank you for doing this collaboration with me. The sublimity and warmth of the 2nd movement is expressed finely through the woodwinds, and overall this work is a loving tribute to Bach.
Spannende Beobachtung!
This is a clickbait by Max Reger 😂Not in old style. The similarity to Brandenburg concerto is for me more distracting than entertaining. This sounds like empty technique : too much development compensates a disturbing lack of subject and thematic intensity. The largo confirms it again, being nothing more than incidental underscore. But how perfect was Reger‘s technique! You give one motive to him and the whole symphony is ready! His music is anyways always interesting and teaches something. Perhaps the only real problem here is his own misleading title. I would call it Bach Hommage or something similar. My suspicion is that music with emptiness of idea and inspiration is the tendency with composers who overestimate the role of improvisation and instrumental playing during the creative process. However , Max Reger was excellent organist, and about his workflow i don’t know much. Still, it is still hard for me to to categorize him as an „unmusical“ soul, and i believe Reger has very inspired moments like in the Bach and Telemann variations, and in his Ballet Suite without ballet.

Die Fugue ähnelt der der "Introduktion, Passacaglia, und Fuge" zutiefst.
