- Amazing scene from this episode!!
///then I'm going to drive away,
and you're gonna go home to your daughter,
and every few years, you're gonna look at her face
and know that you're alive because you chose
not to go down a certain road on a certain night,
that you chose to walk into the light
instead of into the darkness.
When I think of Fargo, I think of this scene.
Probably one of the most badass, intimidating, malevolent showmanship I've seen come out of Billy Bob Thornton.
I think of the diner scene first, and then this scene. The diner scene because you see Thornton's ability to play barely concealed rage. He is furious that the diner owner is not intimidated by him, but can't do anything about it. Then this scene, where a similar scenario plays out, but the cop is frozen with fear.
I also liked the scene where he asked that guy if his kid was ever tested. "WTF are you saying?!" "He just seems to have a low IQ, that's all."
Cop looked like a scared kid LOL
One of the greatest movie scenes EVER
whole character is a Billy Bob best role ever
The sound of all the factories in the background truly make this scene. It makes you feel alone, like they are the only ones in the world
That makes absolutely no sense at all.........And yet you are absolutely, positively, 100% correct my friend.
Didn't realize it until you pointed it out. So true.
Nice, this is the only comment I read in Morgan Freeman voice...
And the factories all sound atuomated, like there are no humans there, just the machines running throughout the night, alone.
I know this noise too well barley any cars drive by only trucks come by mostly in the middle of the night as well.
*tries this in real life*
Cop: "That's from Fargo haha. Great scene. You're under arrest tho"
Saw a video on Police Activity "Fatal El Paso Police Shooting At Car Wash" and came to this clip. It's crazy similar but didnt end the same😂
38 years on this Earth, and this is one of the most badass scenes I've ever seen.
What a weird humblebrag.
Where do you live, Seaside, FL?
Clearly haven't watched many scenes then
@@SenoirSnuggie12321 Such a strange statement, if it's his personal favorite scene it doesn't show/ mean that he haven't seen other great films/ scenes. You are weird, but it's internet I guess.
Preach brother!
So quiet, no threats just a quiet warning to not go down that road. Billy Bob owned this first season.
i think in a court of law that would be whats known as a threat
Yon Yonson actually a subtle threat but still a threat
"Who said anything about a court of law?" :)
All of it was implied and the implication itself would have to be repeated in a manner that would take it from that to a threat. Can you imagine this young cop trying to make clear how and why this guy scared the heebie jeebies out of him? Can you imagine him even recounting it to his captain? Everything Malvo said sounds like some weird ass version of ghost story told by the campfire. "Here Be Dragons", can you imagine repeating that and making it sound dangerous? What if they found Malvo? How would they ever make him seem threatening considering the next times we see him he is meek as a lamb and everyone buys it? That is what makes it so terrifying. It is not possible to describe how a man talks to you in a reasonable tone of voice and scares you so badly that you back up and let him pass. The lawyers would eat the cop alive on the witness stand.
Lorne pretty much caused his own fate considering what happens to them both in the end of S1
I love the first shot of the gas fumes coming from the car as the officer gets out of his vehicle. Foreshadowing of a calm, breathing dragon waiting to strike in the cold of night. This scene was shot with perfection, it makes you feel cold.
Love it
In Dante's Inferno, Satan is portrayed as a giant demon, frozen up to the waist.
This was for me the scene that made the show. So utterly brilliantly conceived. Huge respect for the actors for playing this one to perfection.
True date
DAT
my thoughts exactly, Thorton brought old world darkness upfront for the us to get a glimpe of true evil, and with class through and through. "Pleased to meet you, wont you guess my name" Sympathy for the devil, The Rolling Stones
Yea this scene is the reason for atleast half the views the show got. People didn't know the show would be so shit afterwards.
Imma try this next time I get pulled over
+Roy Pones LMAO
hallmonitor98 When I get to hell I'll by you a beer.
you'll die, if you are black you might die regardless.
Don't try this unless you are actually Satan incarnate.
@@jacksontarrant6992 HAHAHAH
Just got out of prison today, was in because i tried this after the first episode aired
Yasin Selat HA HA HA HA HA!
Maybe your acting wasn't as great as you thought it would be.
😂😂😂😂😂
How'd that work out for you?
Then you deserved every day in. Shame they let a psychopath, who can't just enjoy a movie, out. Sicko
I finally decided to start Fargo and let me tell you, that was the best pilot episode of anything ever.
"These are not the droids you're looking for."
60% of the time, it works every time.
That doesn't make any sense.
@Last Earthbender His comment was too.
a very serious person to say that just for the simple reason, you don't write no checks with your mouth that your ass cat cover
Malvo Panther?
Anchor man. It makes sense with cologne
This scene makes me think that Lorne Malvo is not just some hitman, he is pure evil not from this world.
Good call! And that idea is brilliantly revisited during the last episode in the second before he dies. I still have to come back and watch this clip every so often. Too bad season 2 wasn't nearly as good :-(
He did say that the last time he had good pie was in the Garden of Eden. He's definitely the snake.
Reminds me of Javier Bardem in No country for old men
@@dredynfontana7341 yea they straight up copied malvo from no country, even the original Fargo movie was from the directors. I still think Malvo is better tho
@@OscarMor5678 na Antons philosophy is more interesting than Malvos imo although malvo is still one my favourite villains and his monologues are awesome
Speech: 100
It's the coincidence of his daughter radioing in and reminding Gus what he stands to lose if this traffic stop goes wrong that really allows Malvo's intimidation technique to succeed. I think he would have scoffed in Malvo's face and never thought twice about proceeding by the book and arresting him if it wasn't for the fact his daughter radioed in AT THE EXACT TIME that Malvo finished delivering that ominous line about dragons.
True the scene needed that to communicate to viewers whats at stake in every moment of our lives, of course the big one: Family or loved ones.
yea he'd be dead
Brave cops, old cops. No brave old cops.
In other words, his daughter saved his life. If she hadn't radioed in, he would've tried to arrest Malvo and he would've certainly be killed.
Absolutely nobody could have played that scene better than Billy Bob Thornton. I love him!
Totally agree. I remember from this scene... I was hooked! :)
Javier Bardem, maybe.
I love him more. I had sex with him in monsters ball - halle berry
"Some roads you shouldn't go down. Because maps used to say there'd be dragons here. Now they don't. But that don't mean the dragons aren't there. "
I'd have replied...we have GPS now scumbag as i dragged him out by his hair and pistol whipped him.
That was badass I swear. When he said that the cop got very nervous
@@Bradgilliswhammyman The gun is already pointed at you on the other side of the door, you just don't know it. You would have been shot, probably three, maybe four times, and left to bleed out right there in the road. Then your daughter grows up without a father. All because you chose tough guy bravado instead of being smart enough to recognise the situation for what it is.
As my Gran used to say - "you can be dead right". Which is to say, it doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong. If the other guy kills you, you were wrong.
"But .........now we have this clever app on our cell phones called WAYZ, which informs us of every god damn dragon hanging out on the roads bumming change so we can avoid their lazy unemployed asses". lol
One of the best scenes ever.
Don't watch a trailer to this season. Just watch this clip. That's all I needed to get excited enough to watch this show. Plus this scene doesn't spoil anything it just depicts the tone of the show.
True, this scene just casts the shadow and shows the depth of what this character has in store.
Pants officially shat.
Haha
This is one of the best scenes in television history. So powerful and masking so much tension.
There is something so chilling the way he says "do you understand me?" Yup you have yourself a goodnight sir.
I love the later seasons of Fargo, but season 1 was perfect television
100% agree!!!!!
There are things in this world you don’t wanna know about and this scene underscores that.
Thank you for this! I absolutely love this scene.
The officer was sure of his training until Billy's character mentioned his daughter. It's that right there that caused the hesitation, which turned into doubt about going down this road. He weighed it in his mind..."it's not worth it, I have a daughter at home."
the sister version of " What's the most you've lost in a coin toss"
“What business is it of yours where I'm from, friendo?”
I see people comparing them and I just don't see how this character is even in the ballpark of chigurh, nor is the show as good as that movie was. IDK.
@@hansolo631 you're unintelligent. The show is very clearly and evidently inspired by the original movie as well as No country for old men. Both movies directed by the Coen Brothers. Why do you open your mouth, when you clearly have no idea about what you're talking about. istg people like you make my blood boil.
I really underestimated this show. I’m still only on season 1, but it is absolutely stunning. And what a cast!!
*”sir… I was just gonna tell you your trunk isn’t fully close”*
One of the most intense scene in TV/movies ever
Absolutely.
God I love billy bob, he’s such a damn good actor
channel 4 used this scene in their trailer for fargo....
Based on this alone I knew I'd love it....
From this scene ...I was hooked.
if ever one wanted to express tension and fear calmly, this is the way it's done. what an absolutely brilliant and utterly terrifying scene! EXTREMELY well done!!!
One of the best scenes in the 1st season Billy Bob is a beast
The best scene in Fargo , a full shot of adrenaline, damn horror
Great intensity
Incredible scene, perfect dialogue and tension. Delivered with such beautiful subletly.
I like to believe that he turns up the radio and bad to the bone starts playing as he drives away.
Lol
Chilling scene. There be dragons…
Every scene with Lorne Malvo is perfection.
Hell yeah that's one of the best scenes in the series Maps saying there used to be dragons here but I think the key thing that made him back off was to say that he chose to walk into the light instead of the darkness......
Terrifying Presence perk really payin off here
Yes.
I've been waiting forever for this show to come on Netflix
Just buy it you won't regret it. Such a good show.
123movies.to
Abraham Dixon It's on hulu.
Buy it. Everything is going as software as a service (SAAS).
I'd shit my pantaloons if I were the officer.
I have just did it without being the officer. Marvo is really good.
this scene scared the crap out of me
Were you born after 1980?
Still one of the best scenes in television, so chilling
Billy Bob is maestro, the intensity of the character, you actually can see how deep he's in the Malvo persona, he gave it another life, scary, I think that even the cohen brothers shit themselves. That's how you represent a fucking sociopath. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very well worded my man, I come back and watch this clip every few years or so and it is still one of the most resinating scenes that will always stick with me for the simple fact that Thorton actually lived that character for those few minutes, I mean he brought old world buried evil up to the daylight for the viewers to see a peak of a whole other wolrd beyond our understanding.
He's a methodical psychopath not a sociopath.
"That you choose to walk into the light instead of the darkness."
When i first saw this, at this point laughter broke out from me. So absurd, but so dark, so creepy. Lorne Malvo was truly demonic here.
Nothing absurd about that phrase, it's called allegory.
@@twisted_nether373 I know, still the whole situation is weird, common people not talks like that.
@@danielocsai36 Thats what makes thiis scene forever stained in alot of viewers memories, bc of the old world evil he spoke of.
allegory /ăl′ĭ-gôr″ē/
noun
The representation of abstract ideas or principles by characters, figures, or events in narrative, dramatic, or pictorial form.
A story, picture, or play employing such representation. John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and Herman Melville's Moby-Dick are allegories.
A symbolic representation.
"The blindfolded figure with scales is an allegory of justice."@@twisted_nether373
I would love to have that kind of charisma of being totally intimidating and menacing without having to break a sweat, no harsh language, no shouting, just cool, calm and calculated.
These 2 things alone will get you 80% of the way there.
1: speaking in a steady monotone accent which subtly displays that you have no emotion
2: dont break eye contact and also minimise your own blinking, which will instill fear.
It wasn't charisma , it was a willingness to do whatever in that moment
"Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name" class and evil at its finest.
Of course this scene is incredible, however I just realised that driving like shit is rather out of character for Malvo who is otherwise emotion-free and always in control.
He's also shown as care-free and casually doing illegal things, like stealing a guy's car in broad daylight in a crowded parking lot (or shitting with the room's door open). He's speeding because he knows a cop is absolutely no threat to him.
He's speeding, because "speeding" is made up by the law and for Malvo, there's no such thing as a law. Remember when he said that just some centuries ago we only had what we could defend.
He is the definition of cruise control lol
He isnt Just some badass Guy the cop can feel how He would genunly be willing to die that night
He rolled a nat 20 on the intimidation check.
i know the dialogue is amazing and stuff, but one of the most underlooked parts of this scene is how he lowers his tone and speaks more quietly when he asks grimly "do you understand me?" might be the most chilling part of the entire scene.
So much soft-spoken menace. Malvo must have been a Sith.
This scene is GOAT
y’all i do NOT advise trying this in real life, it did not go the way i anticipated
Oh my God the intimidation factor here gives me chills
"Yeah yeah okay thats a warning for you. get along mister "
Amazing scene. As badass as it gets.
Love this scene so much
IRL : "Well ok then Mr.dRaGoN, step outta the fucking car."
Just finished this season. I now love Billy Bob.
My thoughts exactly so I started watching his other show; Goliath and I was pissed because it wasnt this character lol i just want him to play this character in every future film no matter what the genre dammit!! lol
Billy is a humble man. I met him once. This is why this scene is very genuine. He's not acting. The officer is Tom Hank's son.
Sometimes you need to step into the darkness, to bring the light.
So cold
I tried this, the cop peppersprayed me
lol
😂😂😂
Well apparently you aren't the Devil.
Colin Hanks is brilliant in this show 👏 👌 🙌
2:02 I love the change in his tone here
That's what truly makes the scene so dark. That change of tone in his voice is letting the cop know that he's not fucking around and this shit is real.
That's one hell of a way to avoid a ticket.
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?
Driver: Yes. Rolls window up and leaves.
Me whenever someone tries to get close
Haunting af
He went back to the car wondering, how did I became a cop!! Lol I wouldn’t blame him tho .
That's pure genius writing.
A rarity, yes.
“You’ve got black eyes… you’re trouble”
That, he was.
Almost reminds me of the Town when the bank robbers got out of the van with ski masks. The old school officer looked them right in the eyes and as they stared at each other the Officer looked down and continue to read his paper as they walked off.
Now, let’s imagine this was NYC. There would be a whole clip in Billy Bob’s face before he could say, “Boo” lol
Only if he were black. As a white guy, he'd pay a fine and be on his way.
@@redefinitive the black guy would also yap nonsense like "yo mane this police brutality" pretending to be a victim of racism
Do you still want reparations from things that you didn't do? @@redefinitive
While he "axes" stupid questions and runs from the police. @@ubt3606
Eine Gänsehaut Szene..
This is solid writing/acting.
Intimidation at it's finest. As good as "I'm over here" Joe Pesci in Casino.
Yess, even better than the Christopher Walkins and Dennis Hopper scene in "True Romance" a Quentin Tarantino write.
Yeah, I would have let him go too...
Good choice. I'd be the most passive cop on earth, fck taking risk
Hey you guys, listen!!....You could actually hear his balls shrinking!
Why do like balls so much?
is it a movie a tv show ? man he played that cop like a violin,
And the pussy folded like a deck of cards.
Everybody gangsta until Professor Gellar takes over
The voice of his daughter over and over annoyed the fuck out of me.
Don’t think he would be saying that to Wyatt because last time I checked he was sitting in his chair and that’s a FACT!
Some guy in philly tried this, the cop shot him 17 times, then lied about it and said he had a knife and lunged at him
He woulda called backup and drew his gun at that point.
Maybe. He's a single dad and clearly dealing with one sick fuck, who's willing to go down trying to kill him. Great touch to have the kid calling him in the background to heighten the stakes for him internally - a way we can follow. I bet you there are a lot of times where cops wished to have looked the other way, but didn't. Not saying they should, but some roads do have dragons.
When seconds matter police are minutes away.
And probably would not ever have seen his daughter again.
Every time I try this I end up face down on the pavement with my hands cuffed behind my back.
great scene
And that people, is how you get out of a speeding ticket
Well that cop got off a lot easier than the cop who pulled the bad guys over in the movie.
"You're making a mistake!"
To be real though, the rest of the show wouldn't have happened if malvo didnt decide to whip his stolen vehicle around like a teenager. Im not gonna say thats bad writing though, i can totally see malvo driving around like that just to get attention because he wants a little more chaos
I am the dragon
Tried this on a Cop in Jersey...I was only in the hospital for like three months....Pfft, showed him!
Its Tom Hanks son!!!
Strong frame
Then again it did give the appearance as if there wasn't a whole Lotta cops to go around
omg!!!! this is deep shit!!!!
[Terrifying Presence]
This sense makes me get a dragon tattoo
You would be dead if you said this in real life.
