I thought the small hollow rivets go through the handle and prevent the blade from sliding out. And a machete should bend not break. I agree with you that`s a bummer.

I can’t believe the pins don’t even go through the handle ! Unbelievable. They have put tubing into the rubber, there is literally no reason not to put it all the way through. Absolutely bizarre and very disappointing to see. Thanks to you Joe, otherwise I’d never suspected such a flaw

I think CRKT used "psudeo pins" instead of real barrel pins due to manufacturing reasons. Its an overmold type handle, not scales....although that doesn't explain why the tang was drilled for pins. The good news is, you can take some epoxy putty and press it into the holes in the handle from both sides. This will fill in all the way through the tang and effectively serve as actual pins, securing the handle much better. Theres 4 holes too, so if you do them all its unlikely you will have problems with that handle coming loose.

I've steered clear of inexpensive blades like these that aren't already a "known entity" so to speak. By that I mean that I know Cold Steel's 1055 is tough as hell and cheap. I think Ontario's inexpensive military machete would be interesting to test. They're also very cheap, pretty hefty, and 1095 steel probably in a soft heat treat. I have a bundle, similar prices to Cold Steels

Looking at my first production run of the CRKT Chance In Hell right as I type this. Used the crap out of it for 6+ years, did 2 video's testing it. Just noticed now that the blade is about a quarter inch longer than its supposed to be. The blades pulling out of the handle and I didn't even notice. Thats Scarry to me because its almost like you wont know its a problem until you potentially get hurt.
