Another Pixar's easter egg : when Miguel walks with Hector, there is a poster of " The Incredibles " in skeleton form on the wall. Yes, it's Frida Kahlo. I always cry when Miguel sings to Mama Coco. It reminds me of how my little brother was with our Grandma. Mama Coco even looked a lot like my belated grandma. The part about her memory fading was also a similarity.
We watched this movie is Spanish class, in Spanish with English subtitles (loved Spanish 4 we just watched movies lol) and most of the class was trying not to cry. I was tearing up, too. It was so good I went home and watched it again in English
I recently watched this with my MIL and she originally was so sad when Miguel lost Hector’s photo. I think she cried when Coco revealed that she kept the ripped part of the photo with her father’s face.
This is easily one of my top favorite movies EVER! Not just Pixar. It gets me every time! I’m glad you think it’s Pixar’s greatest because when I ask what people’s fav is, I always hear vastly different answers.
"Criminally underrated." Yes! It's so strange to me that this movie is either an afterthought for many, or people don't even mention it. It's like it's not in the Pixar "canon" for a lot of people. But it is just so beautiful and universal and human.
Disney really did their homework with this movie, they spent a loto of time in Oaxaca doing their homework... just for you to know Mama Imelda's animal guide is not a dragon, is an Alebrije (a magical combination or animals and spirit of nature) and Dante turns into one because the aztecs believe that xoloescluintles were your guide after you die, the land of the dead aesthetics is inspired by mexican towns and the aztec underworld (Mictlán) combined... When I saw this movie I immediately thought of how we don't set an altar in my family and I was terrified by the idea of my mom's mom to be forgotten...
When I saw “Coco” in theaters I was crying because my young sister died months prior of colon cancer. Even now seeing your reaction video made my throat tight, my eyes cry, and my brain even felt pressure. -My family promises to keep her memory alive for generations to come. PS. On a lighter note, one of my friends turned his pick up truck into the spitting image of the Toy Story pizza delivery truck.
I laughed when you said "that's the darkest Disney has gone", that's debatable at best, like the death of Bambi's (spoiler), Clayton's end in Tarzan when you can still see his shadow and Gaston having skull in his eyes when he fell in Beauty and the Beast.
Yeah but the fact that the entirety of coco is about death and grief and also having the characters die on screen makes it darker than the rest of the movies - that just use death as a plot device
As a Mexican, with knowledge of history and traditions, I could say the movie got a few points modified (eg. the altars are a pre-Hispanic tradition before photography was invented and the really important thing was placing the treats that the deceased family member might return for) but they mastered the imagery. From the colonial "papel picado" ornaments, to the multiple colors of the alebrijes (they are not dragons) to the orange of the "flor de zempazúchitl", to the representations of the underworld, it really reminded me of the Mexican towns, to the colorful celebrations, to the pre-Hispanic art, visually they represented it wonderfully.
*After a bell falls on Ernesto* "Wow, this just got dark!!" Movie: WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED >8) Also the theory around the fandom as to why the family didn't see Miguel on stage: The song that Miguel and Hector were singing was - according to the director - actually one that Hector wrote FOR Imelda. No doubt that she (if no one else in the family) recognized the song AND the voice. Which had to have been a gut punch with all the assumptions she had about Hector at that time. 😫 Any and all music and even the utterance of this guy's name has been banned, so it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't have even glanced in that direction when they had bigger issues to worry about. And they sure wouldn't have recognized Miguel's singing either.
That dragon with tiger head is what we call “Alebrijes” in Mexico. Dante is a Xoloizcuintle, Los aztecas believed that those dogs would guide people on their afterlife.
Dia de Los Muertos is a closed practice and you would be culture appropriating. If you’d like to show culture appreciation, you could visit festivals and support Hispanic businesses :)
@Omi Miau thank you, I will. I am of mixed heritage myself (Scandinavian and Alaska Native), and cultural appropriation is a complex issue. I love it when anyone from any demographic wants to “play” Viking. I’m more protective of my Native Alaskan heritage. It starts with knowledge and respect. But we all still need to listen to one another.
No its not. So many cultures remember their family with pictures and offerings and altars. Its a personal thing. If our culture lets him remember his ancestors than im happy. And i welcome his ppl into our afterlife. At best i welcome him as a stranger remembering and celebrating our loved ones together. U r not the authority or gatekeeper of our culture or spiritual beliefs. U dont speak for me or our ppl.
"All men are trash" - Yeah, I'm gonna take that as a joke. I feel sad for you if it was serious, though! There's a reason why incels, those who spout "all women are th*ts" shouldn't be taken seriously either.
"Imagine feeling that un necessary and irrelevant in the world". Oof 😣 You cutting me deep with how I am feeling lol. 11:48 i always thought that was odd that the family didn't look once at the stage but then i realized they're set as a family that does not want to acknowledge any form of music so it kinda makes sense when he's performing and they didn't bat even an eyelash towards his way
I find it absolutely hilarious that you're stressing that Dante is dead from one sight gag. For whatever reason, he can go into both worlds. I'm just wondering...did you know Miguel's baby sister that you see at the end was named after Coco?
You are right! Dante was not dead 😂 In Mexican culture this type of dogs are believed to be companions of the death. So he can easily move through both worlds.
Omg YESSS by FAR one my fave Pixar films of all time!!! Honestly took me awhile before watching Coco too so no shame there😂 AND IM LATINA!!! Love that you loved this 😄
i remember when this movie came out in theaters and there was a 15 fucking minute frozen "short" before it. disney shot themselves in the foot with that one, it was the first thing that actually made people pissed off at frozen en masse. a couple weeks in, the stopped playing the short. it seriously infuriating, even the kids in the audience were annoyed by it
Miguel was fingering the chords on the guitar that he was actually playing, and the famous guitar had a gold tooth, foreshadowing Hector's being Miguel's ancestor. If you look at the Land of the Dead, from the bottom, up, you're going to see architecture from the Aztec/Mayan era, to the "under construction" portion at the top. The detail in this film is such that, Hector's bones, as he's so close to fading, are chipped and worn, aged and dirty, while Miguel's are bright-white and intact.
I thought she was going to banish all men too lol. I remember I watched this in 7th grade and I was being dramatic while crying and I was trying to hug my friend, but she yelled at me and pushed me away. So I left her and went to hig another friend while we cried togther. (Or that's what I like to think.)😭😡😅
I remember watching this in school and it was the worst I've ever cried and movies don't even make me cry. I had snot running down my nose and everything. 😂
I got a little to stressed because my hole life i’ve seen it in spanish because i’m from mexico so like yeah, and it makes me kinda anxious the fact that they speak spanglish but at the same time I was in pain because I can’t see that movie because it reminds me of my great-grandmother and I horribly cried 🥺
Music is able to activate memories, the same as smells can. Nothing but "Remember Me" could have pulled Mama Coco out. And she didn't remember just her Papa, and how Mama Imelda used to sing, but she also recognized her daughter, knew what was in her bedside table, everything. Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro were in a film called "Awakenings" that shows some of the same connections between music and memory.
20:31 They caught Ernesto in 4K, and he ain't even notice. You'd think that a man who was usually on camera would notice that there was a camera on him.

I don’t know that Coco is underrated and got no respect. It got great word of mouth mention after it released. It won an Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2018. I agree it’s a great film. I always encourage people to see it and watch it with family for its great family theme storyline 🙂
i just finished the film myself and its such a beautiful amazing movie that brings out these reactions, i too made wild raptor noises but the end hit me the exact same, hadnt cried over a film in a while
I've seen a lot of people react to this film, but honestly I think yours is the most wholesome one I have witnessed thus far. 😊 As an aside: my personal headcanon is that they named Miguel's baby sister after Coco.
Important cultural note: in Mexican culture, 'stupid' is actually pretty high up there as far as vulgar goes. Miguel more or less dropped an F-BOMB in front of his grandmother. Worse, he SPECIFICALLY directed it at the OFRENDA, that is, he basically insulted, EXTREMELY VULGARLY, their dead ancestors, the family's efforts to remember and honor them, and by extension his entire family... effectively disowning his family in a swearing rage by telling them he doesn't care if they bother to try and remember him or not. That outburst was no small potatoes, it was like a kid having a screaming swearing rant about how much he hates his family and how much they suck, right to their faces. It kinda puts his grandmother's sudden flight into a rage and destruction of his guitar into a better context. I mean, parents and grandparents have gone into rage mode over much less than something that huge.
Oh wow! Thanks for the insight. I don't excuse what Elena did but in that context I understand why. I always love learning new things about other cultures and I hope Disney and Pixar continue to do this accurate representation of more cultures for their future movies so we can see more parts of the beautiful world
Not gonna lie, after learning Ernesto wasn't actually Miguel's family, oh my gosh those scenes where Miguel's hugging him and stuff genuinely frighten me now.
Mama Coco is the great great daughter. She remember her mother rule. However, she was keeping her love for Papa in low profile and try to keeping her mama's rule. Coco may be nears 100yos.She kept Hector's photo in drawer near 100yrs.
A little hint that Miguel and Hector are related is in the photo that Hector shows him after using the makeup to disguise Miguel. In it, you can see that Hector has a single dimple just like Miguel, and it's even on the exact same side.
I love the consistency of reactors wondering what happened to the guy who dropped the first bell on Del La Cruz 😂 it was the 40’s, he probably didn’t serve much if any jail time

The way they hold on this twist for so long, makes the audiences perceptions of Hector just as bad as the family until you learn. But that’s why I love it. The walk away musician, was really the devoted father who died trying to come home. The clown who died on a sausage, was really the victim of a murder and slander. The loser trying to use a child to get what he wants, is in reality the grandfather and mentor the child needed and still (after 97 years) trying desperately to go home.
So yeah, Hector’s story is sad, and I respect the mess out of this beautiful skeleton dad.
This movie truly did write a good plot twist, one that you didn’t see coming to the very end, but it didn’t leave behind any plot holes
Such a wonderful twist. When you watch it back after you know the end, they seed all the hints right there from the get go. But we don't notice them because the setup is so good.
@@ShadowyFox_86yep one of my favorite hints about Hector being a father in life is that he (very cleverly) censors a naughty word in Everyone Knows Juanita
Omg, I started crying watching you cry to this movie, Coco is so good
It is!!! 😭🦋
I absolutely adore Coco. Watched it in the cinema and cried my eyes out
I would’ve been the same 😭
Yeah, it’s crazy how it came out in 2017. It’s already been 3-4 years ago. I couldn’t cry anymore because I had cried so much lmao

Definitely a bonding experience 😭
I cry every time I watch it, but apparently everyone I know is a psychopath because I've watched it with like 5 different people and prepared tissues and stuff to comfort them but I was the one who ended up crying whilst they stared at me weirdly 😂
I bawled my eyes out too. I saw this movie for the first time two weeks after my own great grandmother died, so the end REALLY hit me hard
@@ananunes5451 lol most of us don't cry I mean I cried a little at the ending like only some movies make me cry it rly need to be sad sad to make me cry tbh

It just occurred to me that the last person that remembered the guy that faded could’ve died. They’re going to come looking for their loved one and won’t find him anywhere 🥺

When the flick climaxes: "Crush him. Crush him like a bug."
Also, I'm just now noticing the symbolism of bringing the photo together means the family was made whole too.

Another Pixar's easter egg : when Miguel walks with Hector, there is a poster of " The Incredibles " in skeleton form on the wall.
Yes, it's Frida Kahlo. After all, she's a part of Mexican culture so it would be surprising if she didn't appear even for a short time.
Fun fact, her husband's last name was Rivera
I had NO IDEA Frida Kahlo was a real person! I thought she was just internal to the film.
@@MusicBlik really ? No no, she was a famous mexican painter but people remember her for her single eyebrow too.
@@MusicBlik fun tact number two: The guy who was painting a naked skelleton in the studio in that scene, was Diego Rivera. The Frida's husband and another famous mexican painter.

His great grandmother "coco" looks exactly like my great grandmother. And when my mom saw this movie, she teared up at the ending cuz they coco death reminded her of her grandmother. I did too
“aM I gOnNa NeEd TiSsuEs?”
Yes, a whole damn box of it.
I always had a connection with this film based on the fact that I moved out of my country to work here in the US. I haven’t seen my family back home for a while and it made me miss them a lot. At the time this movie was release, I was in a very dark place and it brought comfort to know that my family still remembers me, despite how far away I am from them. I’ve visited them maybe twice since I left in 2012, and I would have visited a third time if COVID didn’t happen. I hope to one day spend time with them again.
I have watched this film three times now and I was in tears each time. Also never stop reviewing Disney films. I love it.
I don’t blame you. I’ve already rewatched it since making this reaction! 🦋
Thank you!!! THANK YOU for reviewing!!! I love ur reaction, your brainstorming and emotions throughout the ENTIRE FILM!! I love coco too! So much culture and family love- along w drama and struggle- ugh! My heart is also BEAT UP from watching it- but you’re apart of the coco family now too! Thank you for watching and uploading 😩😩😭😭😭😭😭
No, thank YOU for watching legend ✨🦋
Girl I saw this movie in the theaters & I was probably one of the oldest people there, as I was 19 at the time, and during the last portion of the movie I was BAWLING. I thought I was going to see a cute little kids movie but I was a WRECK. Love this movie though! ❤️😩
Let's admit it, all of us cried during that scene where Coco and Miguel sang Remember Me.
I LOVE COCO! Americans (Disney/Pixar) did a great job of making this film about Mexico and portraying their culture 🇲🇽🇺🇸
When I saw “Coco” in theaters I was crying because my young sister died months prior of colon cancer.
Even now seeing your reaction video made my throat tight, my eyes cry, and my brain even felt pressure. -My family promises to keep her memory alive for generations to come.
PS. On a lighter note, one of my friends turned his pick up truck into the spitting image of the Toy Story pizza delivery truck.
tho movie is my favorite thing ever so underrated
It’s tragic 😭😭
It won awards though, there's a ton of reaction videos every one of which I've seen have nothing but praise for the film...
Underrated? It won the Oscar 2018 animation category. And a total of 11 awards. But I get it. It's so good any amount is less.
I laughed when you said "that's the darkest Disney has gone", that's debatable at best, like the death of Bambi's (spoiler), Clayton's end in Tarzan when you can still see his shadow and Gaston having skull in his eyes when he fell in Beauty and the Beast.
No the darkest Disney is " Pinocchio "
@@a.g.demada5263 Sure, I was just listing the ones at the top of my head.
@@ghostspider2056 I watched when I was a child and it never afraid me
Yeah but the fact that the entirety of coco is about death and grief and also having the characters die on screen makes it darker than the rest of the movies - that just use death as a plot device
@@supercalime Although those deaths are pretty...well, clean.
*After a bell falls on Ernesto* "Wow, this just got dark!!"
Movie: WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED >8)
Also the theory around the fandom as to why the family didn't see Miguel on stage: The song that Miguel and Hector were singing was - according to the director - actually one that Hector wrote FOR Imelda.
I'm still shocked at how you haven't seen Coco until now!
Honestly like.... I’m ashamed 😭😭
@@rxbeccarose It's alright haha.
My mom and dad are from mexico. And it's funny when they saw that movie they commented how the town was so much like mexico.
I have cried EVERY time I watched this movie!!!!!
I think it’s impossible not to
That dragon with tiger head is what we call “Alebrijes” in Mexico. Dante is a Xoloizcuintle, Los aztecas believed that those dogs would guide people on their afterlife.
i swear when hector said he wrote recuerdame for his daugther i sreamed in the theatre, that line broke me :'v
one of the BEST disney movies of all time
I am not Mexican, but I am collecting family photos for my own ofrenda for dia de los muertos. Such a beautiful holiday ❤️
@@Castlecoke and you’re welcome to come visit Valhalla! Skol!
"I thought she's gonna banish all men" - Well then, Miguel and all of Coco's descendants wouldn't even exist now, would he?
"All men are trash" - Yeah, I'm gonna take that as a joke. I feel sad for you if it was serious, though! There's a reason why incels, those who spout "all women are th*ts" shouldn't be taken seriously either.
Just discovered your channel. Rebecca, you are adorable! Love your reactions to Coco.
"Imagine feeling that un necessary and irrelevant in the world". Oof 😣 You cutting me deep with how I am feeling lol. Love your reaction, never seen your channel but love your opinions and reactions to this. Pretty Great movie I was not expecting murder to be a theme from pixar when I first watched this.
I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but I immediately fell in love with it when my wife and I watched it. Such an amazing movie.
Love that you loved this 😄
Her freaking out about the dog being dead is the funniest thing omg
This movie makes me cry every time the grand ma smiles I can’t
i remember when this movie came out in theaters and there was a 15 fucking minute frozen "short" before it. disney shot themselves in the foot with that one, it was the first thing that actually made people pissed off at frozen en masse. a couple weeks in, the stopped playing the short. it seriously infuriating, even the kids in the audience were annoyed by it
You calling the alter where they put up the pictures to remember and respect them a SHRINE is my favourite thing ever
If my grandma smashed my guitar I would be bawling like a baby.
6:02 u didn't have to tell me, I already knew.😂
I remember watching this in school and it was the worst I've ever cried and movies don't even make me cry. I had snot running down my nose and everything. 😂
I got a little to stressed because my hole life i’ve seen it in spanish because i’m from mexico so like yeah, and it makes me kinda anxious the fact that they speak spanglish but at the same time I was in pain because I can’t see that movie because it reminds me of my great-grandmother and I horribly cried 🥺
Even in the french version there's spanish
Your reaction is so pure i love it 😁
Well you should do more pixar i guess.
So, next one is Inside Out (2015) I think. Pleasee hehe
Coco is my 6th favourite Pixar movie. (I absolutley adore and love everything about Pixar) Great reaction, btw! 😊
Ty legend ✨🦋
Coco is so slept on smh so beautiful seeing my family’s culture come to life and on top of that it was just a great film
Yeah this movie is so beautiful
Music is able to activate memories, the same as smells can. Nothing but "Remember Me" could have pulled Mama Coco out. And she didn't remember just her Papa, and how Mama Imelda used to sing, but she also recognized her daughter, knew what was in her bedside table, everything. Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro were in a film called "Awakenings" that shows some of the same connections between music and memory.
20:31 They caught Ernesto in 4K, and he ain't even notice. You'd think that a man who was usually on camera would notice that there was a camera on him.
Definitely one of my favourite Pixar movies. My girlfriend and I recently watched it in 3D together, which made it extra magical. Naturally we cried too. Great reaction video! Subscribed, fellow Brit :)
You're synopsis of America's got talent is so spot on it hurts 😂😂
There's some people who like are talking about how she kept saying she hates men, bro, she was probably joking 😭
I know right? Do people really not recognize jokes when they hear one?
They are so sensitive, then they turn around and say we are the sensitive ones haha
The one scene that ultimately made me cry was the realization that hector was the true great grandfather
No one should feel bad about crying at Coco. It LITERALLY made a room full of Chinese censors cry.

I don’t know that Coco is underrated and got no respect. It got great word of mouth mention after it released. It won an Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2018. I agree it’s a great film. I always encourage people to see it and watch it with family for its great family theme storyline 🙂
Have you seen the Pixar movie Inside Out yet? Because that one makes me bawl every time!

i just finished the film myself and its such a beautiful amazing movie that brings out these reactions, i too made wild raptor noises but the end hit me the exact same, hadnt cried over a film in a while
I've seen a lot of people react to this film, but honestly I think yours is the most wholesome one I have witnessed thus far. 😊
As an aside: my personal headcanon is that they named Miguel's baby sister after Coco.
I always love learning new things about other cultures and I hope Disney and Pixar continue to do this accurate representation of more cultures for their future movies so we can see more parts of the beautiful world
This movie is a treasure and a gem for a whole family can enjoy
I've never seen Coco either this made me wanna check it out.
Ah u have to watch it 😭
Not gonna lie, after learning Ernesto wasn't actually Miguel's family, oh my gosh those scenes where Miguel's hugging him and stuff genuinely frighten me now.
I just started watching your videoes amd i dont think i have EVER seen my self so much in another person reacting to movies!
Ah it’s lovely to hear that ty for watching legend 😭✨
Definitely a 10 out of 10. One of my favorite Disney/Pixar movies. I've seen it multiple times and I cry at the end every time. 😭
I love the consistency of reactors wondering what happened to the guy who dropped the first bell on Del La Cruz 😂 it was the 40’s, he probably didn’t serve much if any jail time
I love this movie so much I can never not cry at the remember me scene near the end makes me think of my mom I was always a mommas boy and I wish I was so much more respectful to her before her passing but I know she loves me and knows I love her very much miss her but know she'd want me to live life as full as it can be and now I clean the house since she passed been a few years since then but still remember how great she was I could always talk to her about anything she was one of the very few people I felt the most at ease with my bro is a close second for making me feel comfortable
Coco is a movie I will never get tired of watching
