I prefer this movie over Coco just cuz this one has more action and overall is a lot more fun They did have 2 original songs, the song Manolo sings to Maria and the one he sings to the bull. Both of them are great in English and Spanish

They are very different movies. It's tough to pick between Ron Perlman as Xibalba in The Book of Life and that last rendition of "Remember Me" in Coco. Honestly, if you want a love story, go for The Book of Life. If you want a story about how precious memories are, go for Coco. It honestly feels unfair to say one is better than the other.
THANK YOU, the Book of Life has the added element that it’s a love story - a story of a young man in love trying to return to the love of his life, while Coco is a story of family acceptance/growth. I hate when people say they’re the same movie just because they’re both set around Día de Los Muertos, the main character wants to be a musician and they both end up in the land of the dead and are trying to return to the land of the living. Yes they’re similar in these aspects, but they’re fundamentally different movies

I adored this movie when it came out, and I put off watching Coco for a while because of the similar vibes I was getting, and...yeah, they're WEIRDLY similar movies. Like, if it's straight up plagiarism it's weird because Disney is usually more careful about that. No one I talk to has a good answer about it. Most people say "oh, it's just because they're both about Día de los Muertos" but no! Both movies have: -a guy who wants to be a musician, but his family holds him back by wanting him to be a part of the family business, which he rejects -said guy winds up in the Land of the Dead, where his face becomes a sugar skull skeleton and he meets a bunch of his dead relatives -climax of the movie (or part of it anyway) involves the protagonist performing a song which heals the hurt and trauma in his family. Meeting his dead family is pretty generic, but coupled with the rest of it? It's way too similar.
I also always thought it was strange how much they have in common!! I can understand most of the commonalities, but the one thing I never understood was why both villains end up being crushed by a giant bell?? it’s so random😂
Yeah the only differences is Book of Life is a love story and has a more interesting design and story. Coco is a generic story that is more about family and not enough lore. Also it has straight up murder in it.

However, they are still different in many ways and I love them both!
I'm SO GLAD someone really understands how much Joaquin pissed me off. He was incredibly vain and sexist, not to mention, careless. The fact that he would've left the town initially if she didn't marry him really speaks volumes about him. Meanwhile, Manolo stood up for what he believed in, stood up to ALL his ancestors, DIED for Maria, and as soon as he learned that she was still alive, he did everything in his power to get back to the woman he loved. He went through the most dangerous part of the afterlife, treaded through the Land of the Forgotten, looked Xibalba straight in the eye and confronted his biggest fear, all while keeping Maria in his heart, keeping that old guitar with him, always 'playing from the heart' no matter what he faced. Nothing ever shook his love for Maria, or his care for Joaquin as his best friend. One of the main reasons I really don't like Joaquin is because he acts like he has no consequences. Whether with his actions OR his words. Do you know what he said to Manolo when Maria 'died'? Manolo said that it should've been him, and Joaquin said "Yeah, it should've". Ten minutes later, he gets his wish. Manolo is dead and Maria is alive. You'd think he'd be happier. He isn't? He should've thought about those words a little harder. Imagine being best friends with someone almost your whole life, even if you're both pining after the same girl. You'd think you wouldn't wish death upon your best friend. You'd think you wouldn't just choose a woman over your BEST FRIEND. But Joaquin made his choice. Joaquin didn't go after Maria for love. Joaquin went after her to have a shiny little gem by his side. A pretty lady on his arm. Manolo DID go after love. He DID go for her heart. He would cross any river, mountain, canyon, any REALM to be with Maria. Because he loves her. With all. Of. His. Heart. In conclusion, Manolo is obviously the best choice, I dunno how it took Maria so long to realize that, and Joaquin, I'd say, was just barely redeemed.
I personally love this one a lot cause it was a movie that I have a lot of good memories on and I still like Coco but I personally Love The book Of life a lot more. And I am So HAPPY you watched it .
I know Coco is a wonderful film, BEAUTIFULLY animated, and the story is really well written. but Book of Life has a special Place in my heart that Coco just doesn't fit.

I feel like it was messed up to leave the town if Maria didn't marry Joaquin because he wasn't thinking about her happiness or safety at all. If he really cared, he would have stayed either way, whether he got her or not.
I think this movies portray Día de los Muertos in very different ways. As a Mexican, i definitely prefer Coco bc i think it's a lot more rooted in our real traditions, the food and habits and places literally look like my hometown, the music sounds like our music (they covered a few very famous Mexican songs) and overall they did a beautiful job. One of the things that irks me about TBL is the weird cover choices?? Like, a movie based on a Mexican holiday has a cover of Elvis and Radiohead in it?? It would make more sense to have originals OR COVER MEXICAN MUSIC, also bullfighting isn't Mexican either, sure it is -a very stupid- thing done here but it's not our tradition at all, bullfighting comes from Spain. So anyway, i think this is a lovely movie that does a good job of portraying how us Mexicans view death and how much we value family and love in general, but I still prefer Coco even if there's really no way of comparing them
Spain had brought bull fighting to Mexico around 400-500 years ago. It’s just that it didn’t originate in Mexico and I think it was banned almost a century ago. This movie takes place years in the past before bull fighting was outlawed. I’m surprised with you being Mexican you didn’t know that the Spanish brought it to Mexico in the past. Need to learn more history.
@@princesspikachu3915 I'm pretty sure there's not one single Mexican that doesn't know about the Spanish colonization lmao it's all around us all the time, I know; what I mean is that I think have bullfighting as the centre of the conflict was an odd choice bc it's not necessarily a very prominent, followed "sport" over here as, idk, maybe fútbol or boxing. This last one actually would have the same impact on the point the movie was trying to make. I love to see my country and culture being represented in media, so I think having a "sport" brought by the people that killed thousands of natives, took away our mother tongue, robbed our land and erased our traditions was a weird choice 🤷🏻♀️

"no dad, this is your dream" kind of thing -i WISH they did original music, it would've been so good
Ive recenently wached book of life and when manolo said killing the bull is wrong i burst into tears and said now that's my boy cries*** and screaming now that's a true Sanchez proves ya wrong mr papą Sanchez
I've been saying this since it came out, Coco's good but the amount of praise it got is insane compared to how much that story resembles the massively underrated Book of Life, this is way better than Coco
I saw this after it came to dvd and then coco came out and from what I saw it was a rip off. Then disney bought fox and has the right to both movies. And fun fact after coco Disney literally tried to trademark "dia de los Muertos" day of the dead. They tried to trademark a freaking holiday. Obviously they didn't succeed but that's one greedy company I tell you what.
i love this movie, but i definitely prefer coco because i have a hard time enjoying movies (especially fantasy/“kids” movies) that have mostly/all cover songs 😆 the songs picked are almost always awkward fits (for example the weird camila cinderella movie)
but i definitely agree with other comments saying you can’t even compare them because the only similarity is it includes the same holiday and culture??
THE ONLY MEMORY I HAVE OF THIS MOVIE WAS WE WATCHED IT IN CLASS FOR CINCO DE MAYO AND MY MEXICAN FRIEND HAD IS FEET ON THE DESK, LIVING THE DREAM LIFE-
Both BOL and Coco are love based, but differ one is romance love and another is family love. I do prefer the Book of Life over Coco, its primarily do to not understanding that deep family connection as my family isn’t like Coco’s. Also I love the cast choices for this one.
I love and hate this movie at the same time!! it caused me to develop sweet tooth for romance when in reality, it is so difficult to find love like this 😭

I won't lie I don't hate the reaction but the constant of how Joaquin is a narcissist when the fame got to his head he's not a bad friend due to the fame it made him not think straight making him into the character we see now I'm sorry I sound like a jerk but I wanted to say this cause most of the comments made just felt unnecessary
Ok TO BE FAIR, Joaquin would've beat this man's a** if he didn't realize the medal was gone by then. Bro was weaving ALL his hits and countering back each time, then as soon as he realized the medal was gone, he sold.
The animation and art style of The Book of Life is gorgeous, but I found the covers annoying, personally. I thought it was a missed opportunity to have some original songs pulling from the various different Mexican styles of music, something that Coco actually did. But I don't like to compare the two, personally. They're both wonderful films. I do give Coco more points though, because I never felt compelled to skip a musical number.
Well actually Fun Fact Coco was heavily inspired by The Book Of Life, tis why it seems so similar Especially with the whole music and you can't play thing

-i WISH they did original music, it would've been so good
They only had 2 original songs, the song where Manolo sings to Maria on the balcony and the apology song in the underworld
@@linseyem92 yeah, i just wish all of it was
it really pulled me out of the story
i think they did the covers well, but it just isnt the same :(
11:39-11:41 OMG THIS SONG!! ARE U KIDDING ME!! 😭😭😭
REBECCAAAAAAAAAA!! MOTHERRRRR, YOU FINNALY WATCHED ITTTTT!!!
I love this movie
YESSSS I DIIDDDDD

You should really watch maya and the three, it was made by the same person who made this
One of my all time favorite movies
8:52 they’re so cute!! I love them 🥹🥹
I've been saying this since it came out, Coco's good but the amount of praise it got is insane compared to how much that story resembles the massively underrated Book of Life, this is way better than Coco
“He’s all grown up… he grew 😏” DEAD
I saw this after it came to dvd and then coco came out and from what I saw it was a rip off. Then disney bought fox and has the right to both movies. And fun fact after coco Disney literally tried to trademark "dia de los Muertos" day of the dead. They tried to trademark a freaking holiday. Obviously they didn't succeed but that's one greedy company I tell you what.
Fr Walt Disney is scum
i love this movie, but i definitely prefer coco because i have a hard time enjoying movies (especially fantasy/“kids” movies) that have mostly/all cover songs 😆 the songs picked are almost always awkward fits (for example the weird camila cinderella movie)
but i definitely agree with other comments saying you can’t even compare them because the only similarity is it includes the same holiday and culture??
THE ONLY MEMORY I HAVE OF THIS MOVIE WAS WE WATCHED IT IN CLASS FOR CINCO DE MAYO AND MY MEXICAN FRIEND HAD IS FEET ON THE DESK, LIVING THE DREAM LIFE-
Tarantino?
7:43-7:57 tell him Maria 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
When Manolo met his mother i started bawling. Me and my bf love this movie!
I think where this movie failed is that it used covered songs rather than original songs, nothing memorable like Coco
this is one of my fav childhood movies OMGG i’m so happy someone finally reacted to it !!
This is literally my favorite movie
Both BOL and Coco are love based, but differ one is romance love and another is family love. I do prefer the Book of Life over Coco, its primarily do to not understanding that deep family connection as my family isn’t like Coco’s. Also I love the cast choices for this one.
I remember watching the Book of Life at home, probably on a vcr machine and later watching Coco years later in theaters. The Book of Life came first.
I love and hate this movie at the same time!! it caused me to develop sweet tooth for romance when in reality, it is so difficult to find love like this 😭
You’ll find it one day :))
Better than coco? So we have beef now….😂
It’s based on the same holiday/ afterlife of course there’s got to be similarities.
There's El Tigre and Frida cameos in that movie.
I personally prefers this over Coco, cause it introduced me to the macabre and death style of media! I love story’s that create a world of life after death, and make it magical and spiritual and beautiful! its so inspiring and creative and I love it! 💖
I’ve been trying to comments on reactors to do this movie because IT IS BETTER THAN COCO, but it’s so underrated no one would watch it, SO THANK YOU❤❤❤
Fun Fact: Guillermo Del Toro produced this film: The Book of Life
the creators of this made a show called maya and the three which are said by the creator to be the previous reincarnations of manolo and maria!!
I love this movie so much
❤❤❤❤❤
11:30-11:33 CAN I HAVE MANNY FOR MYSELF 🥹🥹🥹
20:23 HE’S ALIVE!! 🥰🥰🥰
0:58 ohh she’s so pretty 😍😍
8:23 bro this song is so good
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
Love this film
Chopping up the Creep cover was criminal
This is one of my personal favourites
¡Viva México y su cultura milenaria!
you should totally watched maya and the three!! it’s a limited prequel series to this movie
I love both coco and the book of life kinda like the book of life more because I had rewatched the most
This is one of my favorites Rebecca and I say this is better than Coco!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE❤❤
Maria is a great character love her so much
I won't lie I don't hate the reaction but the constant of how Joaquin is a narcissist when the fame got to his head he's not a bad friend due to the fame it made him not think straight making him into the character we see now
I'm sorry I sound like a jerk but I wanted to say this cause most of the comments made just felt unnecessary
20:03-20:14 NOOOO!? AGAIN!? CAN I JUST HAVE A HAPPY ENDING PLZ!? I CAN’T!! 😡😡😡😡😡
Ok TO BE FAIR, Joaquin would've beat this man's a** if he didn't realize the medal was gone by then. Bro was weaving ALL his hits and countering back each time, then as soon as he realized the medal was gone, he sold.
YES YES i love this movieeeee😭😭😭😭
Both are great movies that represent the beauty of mexican culture ❤
Yaaaaaay❤ Love this movie so much. The sound track BANGS!❤
Well actually
Fun Fact Coco was heavily inspired by The Book Of Life, tis why it seems so similar
Especially with the whole music and you can't play thing
I LOVE THIS MOVIUE SM
new favorite thing is listening to British people use Spanish curse words it just sounds so off and funny

I prefer book of life personally. I think it has more character and charisma. Both are good but this is just slightly better in my opinion.
18:47-18:53 YAY 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
20:54 it's crazy how they got an underworld pagan god to marry those two in a Christian town in the 1920s. The priest and those nuns must be so confused
Bro this whole reaction is just her saying on repeat women ca do more than just cooking like bro we know
The Book Of Life is way better in my opinion
14:10-14:17 WHAT!? ARE U SERIOUS!? ARE U KIDDING ME RN!? OHH THATS SO FUCKED UP!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I fine with bull fighting.
this is my favorite movie. The best movie!!!
As much as I like Coco I’ve always preferred Book of Life
Love Diego luna
