I've been TIG welding for about 3 years now. Currently getting into pipe welding and working towards being able to complete a 6G test. This channel has taught me so much and made me realise that there is so much to learn in this trade. Excellent video.
As someone who would like to get into tig welding, bending the filler rod for better sight is something I haven't seen, heard, or learned from any other video. Thank you for teaching me something new.
Bro, honestly one of the best channels on UA-cam!! Never a wasted moment here. And yes we want all the vids on all the materials and all the weld joints 😂
I want to say you're an artist, but you said that yourself straight off. I really appreciate how much you love TIG welding. I love what I do too- an amateur. In French, that means lover. I believe that amateurs, who work out of love, once they get good enough, do the best work. A pro would have their desire for a quality outcome compromised by practical business concerns. That's why I am not in the motorcycle fixing business. I would always want to dive too deep, do too much, and most would not want to pay. I am grateful for your straightforward, insightful videos. I have TIG Welded for 27 years, but it is only a small part of what I do, so my skills have developed very slowly. Thank you for the leg up.
You have beautiful welds and a great attitude towards teaching people to better themselves in welding. You are handing down your knowledge for future generations. I'm 50 and still enjoy watching and learning. Keep up the great work and teaching.
Always badass Dusty. Can’t tell you how many times your voice has been in my head as I’m welding on this 66 C10 project. No doubt some of the best welding education in the industry🔥👍🏼🔥
Thanks for explanation and the tips, my kindness was today not to a stranger but for my wife, I weeded 20 yard overgrown garden bed. And I can tel you,… I hate gardening,.. she was pleasely surprised and asked my why is did this for her. I explained, she told me to watch more of your videos! Why,… we have a Hugh garden.
The tip for bending the filler rod out to keep your hand out of the way made a huge difference for visibility for me. Thanks for the great video as always
Wow thanks for listening to my comment and making a video about this. Very helpful. I was trying to weld the opposite way (i.e. over the pipe instead of in front of the pipe) as you were doing. I think bending the rod is a good tip. I was awful at this at first but am slowly getting better. The more I practice I've been doing the better I am and making corrections to the torch as I move a long the pipe.
I’ve been a Ali tig welder 16 years now . Welded for Aston Martin . Harley Davidson ..Airbus . and Ryanair the list goes on .... very good weld 👍 be good see it on 1.2m 🤣🤣🤣👍
Dusty, thank you. I'm so looking forward to signing up and taking your class this winter once I clear a bunch of projects this fall. I'm taking a much needed break on projects now as I'm just so tired of the heat this summer. In the meantime, I'm binge watching and re-watching your videos in the comfort of the cool A/C. 👍👍😎👍👍
Nice work love how u haven't hidden ur stop starts quick buff gone good tips I rotate from left to right with riser to keep torch angle constant. Love ya work inspiration to us all. Love how u show what ppe to use too. Alli no good made me feel wierd for a bit couldn't put my finger on it respiratory protection key. Chur legend as allways
Very nice job. Glad to have you back, even if it was a short video. Enjoy all your welding. I learn something new every time. Thank you. Take Care and Stay Safe. Bob
Dusty, your videos are very inspirational. Tig welding is difficult to do after carpal tunnel surgery. You make it look easy.keep up the badass videos. 😎
Just binged most of your videos! Just picked up tig welding to help fabricate custom parts for my 78 camaro drag car build on my channel. Tons of info! Really enjoy how in depth you explain things, any chance of doing some lift or scratch start tig welding? As some of us don’t have HF start
Nicely done. How about an extreme fillet challenge. Fillet weld a fuel injector bung (extruded aluminum) into hole drilled into an intake manifold runner (cast aluminum).
Wish you had done this the other month. Just completed an adult L2 TIG aluminium welding course (UK) and had to do this as one of my test welds on ally where it was destructive tested for penetration, this would of been a help when I started.
Decent welds. I have an extra problem. I only use a thumb switch. I still get great welds because I've been doing it 25 years. But I foot pedal would be so nice
Very nice. When I started doing aluminium round parts it was a bitch. Trying the follow the contour of the part while keeping the bead/fillet in the same place and trying to the tungsten close. All this whilst tying to keep some consistency in the bead. It does just all come together with practice but a lot of practice. These days I can even tig standing up with pedal whilst wrapping myself round an awkward part 😂😂. I like the bent rod trick! I’d kinda developed a method of moving back and keeping my head to the side to stop myself head butting the rod as I come round. I weld towards me sort of thing. I’ll give you method a go, it’s good! Also can tell you’ve perfected a good method as you know exactly where to light back up as you restart the bead to keep consistency. That’s one of those advanced things that a lot of people don’t realise. Nice work and a definite subscribe from me.
Really enjoying your videos. I do have one question because I’ve seen you do it a lot and it contradicts some of what I’ve learned on other channels. Why don’t you let the post flow cool down the end of each bead? I can see where it grays out each time you stop and from what I’ve learned, that can be minimized by increasing post flow and ensuring you don’t pull away too soon. Awesome videos!!
The grey spots are from the cleaning action on re-start. Aluminium is such a good heat conductor that it cools plenty quick enough without gas post flow. Look at the "button" at the end of the final pass. Nice & shiny! Completely different to Stainless Steel which is probably what you're thinking of.
I have to do exactly this at work, as well as some corner to corner welds on 10ga. I can only set amps with no pedal, what's the best way to go about this?
I’m trying to weld 1.6mm alloy with 1.6 tungsten and 1.6 filler rods, I’m in a wheelchair and can’t use a pedal , how can I maintain good heat but without it heating up too much as I go along and blowing out??
Would love to see a shot of you torch hand and general position for this. Did you manage to get round in just 5 sections? Will definatley be trying with a bent filler, thanks for the tip.
Dustin awesome video. You r welding so good. I cant find a video on UA-cam that some one weld and have a camera looking at his pedal while welding. I want to see how to use the pedal right according to whats going on on the bench. How to modulate the foot the right way. If you need an idea for your next video, please think about it. I would appreciate it. Thank you
I weld almost all the time .065 SS tubing. I do a lot of coped T joints. My biggest problem is undercutting. Would be nice to see a video on this issue. Thanks
Is there a reason not to use a table that can rotate, ( by pedal for instance) or would this mean grounding issues and or not having the piece properly centered?
@RK. I built a 3'x3' table of cast with a steel potters wheel with shallow grooves machined in it with a lathe to make centering easy. The ground is provided by flat flexible battery cable held taut on the shaft under the table by a spring. Motion is provided by the left foot moving the "kick wheel". It works great.
Very cool man, now you’ll have to step up to the stem after you’ve used the lathe for those angle glass cone issues; oh where were we tig welding.......yes ✌🏽🇦🇺
Thanks for the great video! Very informative and cool as always. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind. And if anyone else wants to give me some advice I would appreciate that too. I will be finishing nursing school this semester and in a few months I will be working. I will be getting a welder in the next 9 months. I don't have a garage. I only have a work room in my basement it is 13ft. X 15ft. There is no ceiling to it, the floor joist of the living room are visible. I really don't want to haul my computer and welder, table, and supplies outside to practice. My furnace and water heater are in my work room and they have their vent system already setup but it is passive. Is there a pollution removal system you recommend to use, or would I be better off taking the few minutes to carry everything outside? My second question is, how noisy are the fans and is there some sound deadening anyone recommends to knock down the noise? And finally, my last question(I bet y'all are glad). Is the a folding welding table that you would recommend so if I need to carry it outside.
Hey dusty! question for you. i noticed in this video you didn't leave torch over the weld to allow to argon to post flow. any reason? im thinking aluminum doesn't require the post flow like stainless would. How wrong am i?
I always set my tungsten stick out so that I can drag my cup against both pipes and I keep my rod in the puddle, even when I stop to reposition. PS. I do suck at dabbing, I always hit my tungsten. This technic gives a food-grade weld, plus it's cool to have your rod sticking out of your bead. I tell people that I paint with "hot lava"
Absolutely love your videos! Super new to Welding. Couple questions; Do you have any videos explaining your indoor welding setup for fume extraction? I live in Minnesota and am concerned about my argon and c25 bottles being stored in the cold in my un-heated garage.
I do remember him talking about his setup in one vid regarding fumes and whatnot but I don't know which one. Also the first weld shop I worked at stored their gas cylinders outside when not hooked up to a machine ,this is in southern Ontario all year round.

Yes, that is how most workshops do pipe welding, it's alot more consistent and you can better guarantee solid penetration. Also you can always be in position and it's super comfortable, no twisting around nothing. God I hate pipe sometimes 😂
Great job ! Now stick an open can a beer in that pipe and stick a whole chicken over it. Place it on a grille with lid closed. Cook for an hour or so. Best chicken there is.😁👍

Thanks!
You have a great teaching style! I like how you focus on the technique how to start and hold ect. Simple and logical.
Good tip on the filler rod 💯
Great Instructional Video !! 🤗
Your welds are sick ! Thanks for the filler wire tip

Man I struggle with bungs, in just steel lol.
They key is to keep the heat towards the thicker part.
idk id this counts but i did something similar, -16 AN fitting into a pretty thin cast aluminum thermostat housing
Can you do a training vid on setting up a Yesweld 250P W/Water cooler hook up and welding 1” Square tube 1/8 “ wall?
Excellent
Nice looking welds cuz!

Hey Dusty, a quick question what would be a good tig bench setup I'm looking for a bench and not sure what I should be looking for.
Thanks
Would you possibly do one with a thin wall stainless tube? Mainly what i do at work but cant quite nail the consistency.
Also can you explain how hertz makes a difference to ac welding
6:21 how strong are those parts and have you find some thermal deformation?
Had to do this same weld in two passes with zero penetration to the inside of the pipe and full penetration to the bottom for a certification I did
Easy job
YES Please...aluminum example would be nice.
Where abouts on the island are you? And you mentioned that you do classes?

@@MidEngineering AH! Gotcha! Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for this. Could you show a fillet weld around a fishmouthed tube?
Yes it does especially if I fling that off and lands in my lap
tungsten bias gets me from now and then ! do I keep the angle consistant and move in to the pipe or do I focus the arc ?
I have to do exactly this at work, as well as some corner to corner welds on 10ga. I can only set amps with no pedal, what's the best way to go about this?

Do you use pulse when welding
How would you go about doing a 3mm plate to 1mm tube about 30/40mm dia.. aerospace test
No pen and no suckback in side tube either and none unber plate and
Dude, I'd love to see you weld up your own welding mask, that fits factory inserts of your choice.
Is there a reason not to use a table that can rotate, ( by pedal for instance) or would this mean grounding issues and or not having the piece properly centered?
Yeah, may be tough to center, but with proper setup grounding is all good:)🤙
