  • This video shows me eventually replacing a broken CCFL backlit display with an LED display with a conversion kit. The video is long and boring. Needles to say I'm not impressed with the conversion kit. It's universal nature meant that it didn't fit this laptop and probably wont fit any laptop particularly well. I had to cut bits of plastic out of the laptop casing and cut part of the adapter PCB to make it work. Not perfect but it did work in the end.

I have a sony vaio 7181m which has a factory screen of 15.6 "1366x768 resolution. I broke that screen (otherwise it is a ccfl screen 30 pin with a cable for backlight) and by chance I had a surplus 15.6" 1366x768 that was removed from the samsung laptop np275e5v. It has a 40 pin eDP connector (the screen has no touchscreen). That screen fits sony vaio without any problems (all holes are the same). Can this adapter be used in this case. All the connectors are identical as in the video, I just don't know if it's compatible with this laptop. Thanks in advance.

It looks as if you bought a pre assembled screen. Can I just buy a led screen and the converter? Thanks

Yes I did buy it pre-assembled. I needed both so I bought both together and that's how it came. (Not that much assembly would be required and they got it wrong so I had to move the connector anyway) :)
Have a look on eBay, that's where I bought this. I expect you could get the components separately but it seemed good value to get the two together.

Excuse me... so youre saying that Im not gonna be able to buy new ccfls for my dell u2311h monitor? Its a pretty good IPS full hd monitor, only 4 years old, but the backlight got a bit weak. It was very strong when new. It was the last with ccfl, the next model year all god LEDs. I simply just wanted to swap them for new CCFLs for a least intrusive disassembly. thx for advice....

They're not impossible to find but they are generally more expensive. I'm generally referring to laptop displays in this video.
