@@SteelPicking Yes! Many people fly through it not realizing it can be difficult to follow.

Thanks for your videos Aaron, they are the best. I have been trying to learn this wonderful instrument on my own here in the UK for many years on and off and find it so difficult. Your videos really explain things so well, and at the level I need.
Ian, thank you for the kind words. I hope you keep at it and our lessons will help you along your path on the steel.

I just found your videos. . . I've been learning pedal steel for almost two years and felt like I had been sort of stuck on a plateau lately. I've just learned this intro and the Hal Rugg one in Bb. . . great stuff!!! Thanks so much and I'm looking forward to learning more.
Thanks so much, and glad to help.

As a beginner this is actually a huge lesson!! It LOOKS so easy but there's actually ALOT going on for my 60 yr old mind with weak work ethic. So I finally got it!!!! It is WAY bitchen!!!! Empowering!! TY Aaron!! If you or your son ever wanted rock lessons on traditional guitar I would show you anything you desired!!! Again, so grateful to you Aaron...you teach so perfectly and patiently!!!! Gratefully, Kevin~
P.S. if you ever want to visit Ventura, Ca, you stay with me no charge!!!
Kevin, thanks buddy you are to kind. I will tell Jacob what you said. Again thanks and keep picking!
Aaron
Great video lesson, best I've found yet, just started on pedal steel so thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Joe, glad to hear you are taking up the steel. Hope our lessons will help you on your journey.

Your lessons are explained with exemplary clarity and at a pace I can follow. They are immediately attractive, so that I put them on an iPad, which is then placed on an easel facing the steel. With the amp just behind me I can compare tones and attempt to reach one as close as possible to yours, which a George L pickup on a Carter into a Nashville 112 does not reproduce. I shall continue to learn from your educational approach that I find most effective. I am not a very good player, but the enjoyment of learning is invaluable. Thank you very much indeed. I am Irish and live in France where the pedal steel is almost unheard of. Thank you again, Tim Mercer.
Tim, thanks so much for the kind words. My son and I are glad to help and also glad for the format to share with or steel family around the world!

Good stuff Aaron! Stock Intros always come in handy.
Yes sir. It is always good to have a few to fall back on in a pinch.
Glad you liked it!
Aaron
Thanks so much for this. As a non-pedal player just beginning with pedal steel, this intro is really approachable and is a great motivator to keep going. Its encouraging because it allows me, as a beginner, to start making a classic pedal steel sound that drew me to pedal steel in the first place. Honestly, it makes me a lot more interested in digging into technique so I can get improve. So again, thanks for all of your videos and sharing your skill!
Thanks for the kind comments! We are definitely trying to promote the steel and help each level of picker-pedal and non-pedal. We are also looking into making more beginner lessons; so stay tuned for those.

Wow, awesome! I am thinking of learning to play the steel. 63 and retiring from corporate life. That intro reminded me of Gene Watson's "Nothing Sure Looked good On You" I love that song. Will be back to learn!
That's great to hear! I hope that the videos can help you out and inspire you!

Sweet country intro. Too cold at home sounds like that. I will put it to good use. Thanks Aaron.
Why should i want another (when the very best is you) by loretta lynn came to my mind.
Travis, I will check that out. This intro just fits a lot of good classic country tunes. So, hopefully we can get a lot of mileage out of it.
Thanks!
Aaron
Larry, thanks! I am getting a lot of good ideas for songs this will work on. I am so glad for the feedback and glad this was helpful.
Thanks!
Aaron
Sorry, but I have to correct myself, wasn´t Loretta, was Charlie McClain
Larry Dering, Too Cold At Home is in D, but that is the song I was trying to remember where I heard this lick before, many times. Thank you... 4 years later. 😄
Thank yu so much
No problem, Kevin; hope it helps!

Thats like The E-9 Tuning !!!
I’m pretty new to PS. To have lessons like this one, among others of yours, draws me in to keep practicing. Thx sooo much. Just one word: patreon or similar? I feel you need some $$ reward for your labor of love
Larry, my son and I are going to start a Patreon site soon. We hope to announce the details this week so, stay tuned.
Thanks!
Aaron

I ENJOYED YOUR LESSON I AM GOIINGTO TRY IT I HAVE OLD SHO BUD THREE PEDAL BIRDS EYE MAPLE AND A LONG WAY TO GO IVAN FROM ILLINOIS.
Thank you, Ivan! My dad used to play a Sho Bud that I still have. They make some great guitars!
Keep picking!
Nicely done Aaron. I can hear myself taking it on into Green Green Grass of Home. Would that be an appropriate application of this intro? Thanks Lewis
Lewis, I think that would work out well. I am so glad you can find a use for this. The intro lends itself to a lot applications and, that would be a good song for it.
Keep picking! Aaron
Nicely done! Are the videos indexed somehow? I'd like to start at the very beginning of the series & work my way thru them all. Thanks.
No, not really. I did these as a series of 10 or 12. We put them in a generic play list. You might look for the word intro in the title to narrow it down. I think I have done close to 20 different ones in all. Hope this helps.

I have found this, finally, to be an outstanding teaching site. However, my MSA was setup to "standard" nashville tuning and pedal/levers. Note: only three knee levers. I want to set it up exactly the same as Aaron so I am in sync on the lessons and practice. I can take it over to the MSA shop in Dallas to have any alterations. Please help me with Aaron's setup.
Rod, email me a steelpicking@gmail.com.I will send you my set up.
Nice intro. Your A B and C pedals seem to be from the opposite direction. Are they C B and A? Pretty straight forward but a really nice way of doing the intro!! Are you also using standard E9 tuning?
Thank you, Les! On my setup, I have the Zero pedal or Franklin pedal at the first position. Then it goes A, B, C. And, I am playing in standard E9 tuning.
Thank you again and keep picking!
Aaron - Back with you after my summer farm work is done - will restring my Sho Bud Pro 1 You sound so good - do you tune straight 440 ?
No. We made a video on the tempered tuning I am using. I also find that if I change string gauges I might have to tweek my tuning a little. Check out the video it should help.
Thanks!
Aaron
Very good. I just wish I could see the knee lever action as you demonstrate. I don’t need the smaller video (top right) showing your right hand picking…
We have a third camera now so the newer videos will show that shot. We are learning and trying to improve as we go.

Great sounding pedal steel. Can you tell me what amp and effects you use?
Terrick, I am using a Roland Blues Cube Artist amp and a Peavey Pro Fex II effects unit on this lesson. Just got a new Boss Katana - 100Mk II amp and will be doing a video on it soon. Thanks for subscribing and keep picking!
Do you accept requests for purchase? I would love to have a steel guitar instrumental for the song My Girl by the Temptations for my wedding walk song. It’s a special song me and my grandfather shared who is no longer here to walk me down the aisle. I can’t think of a more perfect way to have this song played than on a steel guitar. You are awesome at this!
Jordan, thanks for your nice comments. It is an honor for you to ask me to do this song but this is not something that I can do at this time. I apologize.
I wish you the best on your upcoming marriage and I hope that you find someone to do this for you.
Thanks again,
Aaron
Thank you so much! ☺️ & thank you for responding and getting back with me!
Jordan Smith Try David Hartley in England. David adds to people’s back tracks. Intros, outros, lead bridges. Rhythm backings. He may be helpful. On UA-cam, look up David Hartley and John Stannard. There are many video clips to see if you like his work.
Sweet! My old Sho-Bud Maverick can't quite get that sweet tone but at least I've got something to aim for. Maybe we could trade guitars????
Fred, I might have to have the Maveriick and some folding money. LOL Glad you liked this, keep practicing and hope we are helping you on the lessons.

Aaron is your e-9th pedal construct the Day (CBA) or Emmons (ABC) set up? The reason I ask is when you say to depress the A pedal, your foot looks its on the pedal on the right and not the left? I join all the others who appreciate all your help and dedication. Thank you.
Gary, check out our equipment video. In it I go over my set up . Just google steel picking equipment and pedal set up

What pickup do you have here in this guitar Arron >>>
Hey, Harold! They should be Bill Lawrence 705's. I currently also use these on my Mullen. Mickey Adams has a great video on pickup comparisons that is a great watch.

Country music is not the same without it.
Yes, that is true. I don't necessarily think it is an age thing; for me I still feel that the steel is an important part of country music no matter the era.

Aaron
So sad this kind of instrument was left behind on the past. .no one is using this on a record label songs . Last song i heard was spongebob some of intros or soundtracks. .
It has gone the way of the medieval lute. I still love classic country with pedal steel guitar.
Aaron I am 71 year old starting pedal steel I have bought one of my OWN my questionnaires what is THE first thing I must learn to start z
Riet, so glad you found us and excited that you bought a guitar. Remember to learn things sequential. How to put your picks on hold your bar. Than learn your major groups. Just leave strings 1,2,7, and 9 a lone and work on the others for awhile. Get a good tuner and learn how to tune the guitar and pedals. Learn your fret board than start working on your pedals and knee levers. Than volume pedal. Hope you hang in there!
Keep Picking!
Aaron
Arron, I'm new, confused as why you call the second pedal the 'A' pedal?
Sorry about that. I have a zero or Franklin pedal in my first position. The second pedal is the normal are conventional A pedal. So I have Zero, A,B,C pedals on the E9th.
Hope this helps.
Keep Picking!
Aaron
Thanks Sir. From Glasgow in Scotland.
Cool, I am glad to help.
Aaron
Sounds like an intro from a Waylon Jennings song
