I find it really challenging to use a very wide angle for street photography: it is not a natural view of the human eye, so takes practice to envision good framing and composition ahead of time; it's difficult to find situations with good foreground/midground/background combination to keep a composition interesting; have to get really really close to the subject to get subject separation making cadid shots difficult. For me, best range on the street is about 40-85mm effective length. Longer telephoto 200+mm is also limiting, but still I find that easier than 35mm and less.
I found a nice 85 mm f1.8 lense that has become my fave.
