A traditional military parade to mark Victory Day was held on Red Square in Moscow on Sunday.
Five thousand servicemen took part.
The elite units of the Russian Armed Forces marched in front of the country's top officials including President Boris Yeltsin and the veterans of World War II known in Russia as the Great Patriotic War.
In a short speech, Yeltsin mostly avoided mention of the Soviet Union and the Soviet army, instead calling the holiday a victory for Russia.
Victory Day is a revered holiday.
The parade began with the presentation of the Victory Banner which was hoisted over Berlin's Reichstag in 1945.
Then, according to a tradition, the company of drummers from the Moscow military musicians' school were the first to enter Red Square.
They were followed by students of military academies, universities and institutes, as well as by an airborne regiment.
The Moscow Military Institute of the Russian Federal Border Service, a marine regiment, a regiment of interior troops and cadets of Moscow's Suvorov military school also took part in the parade.
The parade was inspected by the Russian Defence Minister, Marshal Igor Sergeyev, and the Commander of the Moscow Military District, Colonel-General Igor Puzanov, commanded the parade.
The event ended with a march-past of different sections of the Defence Ministry.

Patriotic song sounds more glorious than actual anthem imho
Maybe you already know that, but, in case you don't, this song was the official anthem of Russia at the time. Later, it had been replaced with the Soviet music with a new set of lyrics.

The May 9th 1999 that I've heard so far is the last version without narration
I don't think there is i have checked different videos. PTP and Channel 1 all of them have narration. So i doubt that, but from 1995 until 1999 are without narration. And the modern parades

He proposed the Soviet Anthem when he was president in Russia in 2000. Though he said the anthem didn't motivates the athletes.
