Instead of making individual feathers, I draw a loose, flowing spine over the entire quilt, fill in half the feathers the entire length of the spine, and then go back and do the other half feathers (varying the size of the shapes, randomly, on each side). It is amazing when finished, and it is a quick way to do charity quilts. (I learned this design/method from a Sally Terry book years ago).
I am somewhat of a newbie, but WOW, I’m always so confused about the actual quilting process. Very enlightening and encouraging. Thank you for sharing.
Such Fun! Also solved my worries about quilting… too scared to try as it looked too complicated for me. Now I will be able to quilt away with JOY!! Thanks Ricky. J from UK
This is remarkable. What a blessing of a tutorial. I have an embroidery machine so have many different stabilizers on hand. I'll have to try different ones to practice before I purchase your product. I've not quilted anything except sample quilts and small projects. I have my feed dogs down but the back still pulls and I'm holding my tension like my practice and the practice does great. I took my machines in to get serviced so it's got to be me and not my machine. Crazy operator error, dadgumit!!! I'll practice this method, relax and breath because I have atleast 14-18 quilt tops needing quilted. I even resorted to QAYG and fancy stitches. That gets boring after awhile. Feathers are my favorites so thank you for lowering my stress level and the confidence to try this gorgeous method. I didn't catch where your home for sale is? I love everything about it and the outside is stunning. Right up my alley. Ricky, your patterns, talents and teaching skills are phenomenal. Thanks for blessing my socks off!!!! Excellent tutorial! I have trouble with the bump backs at the top of the feathers and I will now do the stippling that you demonstrated. The stippling also added so much dimension to your feathers! Thanks for this demonstration.
Thank you for sharing this again, I have seen you demonstrate it on a 'The Quilt Show' episode, I think. Someday, I may try it, but now am not able to due to other commitments. Hi from northwestern British Columbia, Canada. We seem to have many similar plants, but I have never been able to have marigolds come back, probably because I put the end of year ones in the compost...we seem to have similar weather.....what planting zone are you in? We are 6b-7a depending on the year.
I understand the concept but don't understand why I can't just copy the designs on water-soluble or tear-away paper and sew through it, which eliminates an entire step.

Hello from Nevada. Enjoy your trip!
Wow, the garden looks beautiful.
What stitch length do you use for the water soluble thread? Thank you 🎉

Thank you for sharing your skills!!
Q: I do large feathers on one side then small ones on the other side , is that okay?
So very interesting and helpful - seen some before but this time was able to replay if necessary. Wendy Orr UK

Thank you for the instructions. I will try this poly product.
Fantastic class Ricky. I really like your Stable Poly product. Are there any resellers of your stable poly in Australia? 💖💖
Do you have a video on exactly how you block your quilts before binding?

I have never heard of water soluble thread. And how in the world do you do this on a full size quilt?

Hello Ricky
I understand the concept but don't understand why I can't just copy the designs on water-soluble or tear-away paper and sew through it, which eliminates an entire step.
Can the w.s. thread be removed just by spraying the top of the quilt with water rather than submersing the quilt?
You can soak a cutip in water or a small paintbrush and run it along the water soluble thread. Good luck.😊
