Parents gave me a baja bug in high school to drive opposed to 1.5hr bus ride. My mechanical skills elevated ten fold keeping it going and know those racers have skills cuz been there, done that in the rain n mud.

Raising a normal beetle isn't affordable these days.

@@ommitedommited154 very clean 1600 stock beetles are about 4-5 where i am depending on how far i want to drive. I have seen no rust clean beetles up here that have been sitting and are not perfect for less than 1000.
I can find them for that price up and down the west coast and the sw like nevada.
Everything in the east coast is always like 2-3 times as expensive probably because of harsh winters and rust.
