As I read a lot of these comments I have to laugh. Some people try and find something wrong with everything now a days. I think it was cool that he wheeled that midget around for a few laps. Yes the track was a little dry but so what, he still wheeled it and he had fun doing it and a lot of people enjoyed watching it. Good job Jeff. At I wasn’t a Jeff Gordon fan but I am now.
A long time ago, in a galaxy… I vividly recall seeing Jeff Gordon as a (I think) 17 year old on Thursday Night Thunder. I called my older brother and told him “remember this name: Jeff Gordon. He’s fast, he’s smart and he’s going to be famous”. It was the “smart” part that convinced me. Those races were all basically sprints. Gordon was consistently up front and had a brilliant sense of when to pull the trigger for the win. Listen to his throttle work smooth out in this video after a few laps. He was and is a great talent.
Look @ Jeff, Dudes a legend. Jeff Gordon is the man. He’s been my racing hero my whole life. He still leaves a significant impact considering he hasn’t been on the track for a few years now… He has set some records that will never be broken & will be hard to match. Very rarely would you see him be intimidated by any driver. Jeff is the true definition of a wheel man. Iv witnessed him win a lot of races as a kid & as an adult. Jeff is by far one of the greatest racing drivers.
I saw Jeff win the Bellville Midget Nationals in Rollie's car on Jeff's 18th birthday. Jeff lapped everyone but 4th or 5th place that night. I also stayed in the same hotel as Jeff that night. The party was pretty cool too.
Larson if anything is like Aj Foyt and Tony Stewart put them in anything and they will get the hang of it pretty quick Gordon only did midgets and sprint cars, larson rn is doing late dirt model series world of outlaw cars silver crown cars midgets, if he wanted to he could probably do indycar if he wanted to
@@73krimzen there are certain things im seeing with Larsons dominant season its kinda reminding me of Gordans 97 season where Gordan went on his dominating year for the championship, just dominating most races and if he doesnt win he is just that consistent that really is the only resemblance im seeing out of Larson right now , Gordan and Larson are my favorite drivers of all time but in the dirt world Larson blows Gordon out of the park, in the cups series larson still has quite a bit to prove that he can be just as good if not better than gordan..
@@73krimzen Larson still has alot to prove and plenty of time to be compared to Gordon in Nascar. Further once Jeff left the dirt for Nascar that's what he focused on. I'm sure had he wanted too, he would have continued to be dominant in lower series or dirt had he tried. When F1 comes calling as they did with Jeff, then we can start talking about how great Larson is...and that's coming from me, a fan of Larson. Besides, it's been Jeff that's touted Larson's ability for years and pushed for HMS to sign him years ago.
" I would love to go more with a wetter track" JG. Atta boy, wet er down fellas the Champ wants to stretch his legs. I love seeing him on a track again.
I agree dude, I would love to watch a nascar legends league of them doing this….I hated Gordon back in his day but as I’ve watched for 30 years now I really appreciate all his accolades even more and I’d love to see him race anything anywhere
That’s awesome my late uncle followed Jeff throughout his career, after his unfortunate passing in 1999 I saved all of the memorabilia he had collected and his love for racing started my racing career that also unfortunately ended however I may no longer be a driver but I will be a lifelong fan of not only Jeff Gordon but Hendrick motorsports. Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot being the next generation of Hendrick has been so revitalizing.
I remember having a TON of Jeff Gordon collectables, one of my favorites was one of the autobiographies that was made in early 2000. Inside were pictures from his 1990s USAC migdet days. I am absolutely stunned that this original car is still around after this long! So amazing to see my childhood hero do some dirt track laps for old times sake.
I saw Jeff many a year ago when he was 14. He raced at Lawrenceburg because at 14, he was not allowed to race in California. He raced a sprint car and if I remember right he won the feature (if he didn't win I've had another brain fart cause I'm old). What's ironic is the track announcer didn't think he should be allowed to race. But he did and the rest is history. I later met Jeff at a race in Florida driving the Baby Ruth car. He was very friendly, remembers the race at the Burg and gave my Wife an autographed Couse (my spelling). A true gentleman.
Was the race at " Barberville"? The baby Ruth car was a Ford and he drove it for Bill Davis racing out of High Point NC 😁 My buddies used to race go cart at Barberville Florida.
Tim: "Want some water put down on the track...and go more"? Jeff: "Yeahhh, a little water would be great! I love it!" 25 + years not setting foot in a midget, Jeff you looked pretty damn good and elbows were up! To cool my hero!

I am about 7-8 months along, fat-ass I am Peace!
They did add a bit of water before but werent expecting Jeff to get into it. They quickly realized their mistake and ordered up the trucks... Jeff wanted to run. Then they prepped it properly and didn't film it.... well done.
@Don Hunter Jeff didn’t have any ambitions of racing Indy after he went down south for NASCAR. And it’s highly unlikely that Rick Hendrick would allowed him to run the 500, even if he had wanted to do it.
Love it...got pictures of Jeff hot footing a midget at Sun Prairie WI.. during the Pepsi nationals...was a different time was glad to be able to see it...Tony Stewart used to show up occasionally also
Has a 21 year old never saw him in a dirt car just saw him in a NASCAR this video is cool especially since I am really into sprint cars and motorsports in general
It did Jeffs heart good after 25 years of steping into a midget really enjoying himself perhaps bringing back memories when he was totally committed himself with this kind of racing during his days of youth and competing in many races.
30 Years ago, John Bickford would be there asking JEFFREY these questions: How did throttle and brake feel? Throttle twitchy or smooth? Foot feed travel control short or too long? Brake response-- pedal location? and a list of other questions as he was teaching Jeffrey how to sort out a race car and report back to the chassis guys and owner. He listened and learned well!
What a VJJ. Set up a press conference. Get in a car and give the up and coming an opportunity to "Thursday night thunder" someone that supposedly was the best.
California boy converted to a Hoosier, but I guess he's ok. Maybe getting the water truck out for 10 minutes was gonna break the deal? Would be great to see the RSX series take off and keep guys like Jeff, Jr, and the ilk race every now and then.

Lawrenceburg is a magic carpet compared to Brownstown. Tri-state has gotten too anal about their track. They must have 3 million dollars of track prep equipment and they grind out any character. They come out again before the features and prep it again, so there's generally very little berm. If they want to have him ripping up the track they will do a test session. Hell yeah! I would have liked to have seen him be able to turn it loose also but that wasn't what the day was about!
I'm betting a lot of people giving crap on the track, has never driven race car let alone one similar to a midget. Is the track great? No, but it isn't as bad as most people are saying it is.

What a talent Jeff is, he deserves better than what they gave him to drive on! Shame..... but as always he is polite about it. 👌
I watched him race every week. He was 16.
Couldnt put down a little water for the poor guy after not being in one for so long

To everyone asking why he was off-pace, that track had no prep work. This was mainly for media. They worked on the track after this video.
He also ain’t race in years. And hasn’t been on dirt even longer.
Holy shit. Jeff looks like he opened a donut shop and ate his way out of stock.
Probably has some extra rib and back protection in the suit. He's not gained weight like that.
