The most realistic depiction of actual depression I've seen in any media.
Bojak Horseman & Normal People
GirlCalledKris2 no one in normal people has depression maybe social anxiety
ricky gervais has a show called after life that's really good and can be so sad ....he is very good at depression
please suggest shows like this I wanna watch, this show is way underrated
@@parishallvevo5827 I think marianne has chronic depression, she is always melancholic
I just finished the series last night after a two week binge. You're The Worst was phenomenal. It was so real. You really bond with the characters and learn that they're not necessarily awful people, but broken people. I had happy tears at the end. I need to get my family to watch it too because right now I have no one to talk about it with
This came out as I ended a 5 year relationship (my longest) don't think I would have made it without this show. One week it ruined me the next it built me back up, but by the end I was free.
This show is so relatable and real and it should be more popular.
If you live in the us.
Nefelibata You've said this a couple of times; what are you referring to?
ChristinasWorld I dunno.. I kind of like this show not being popular. What fun is that? I think only the core fans are the true hardcore fans who belong to this underground and amazing tv show. Plus all the actors don't seem to have egos, nor do they all think their shit don't stink. It's all our little secret ♥️
Nefelibata we get it here in Canada too.
@@nefelibata4190 In Russia too )
This show is so fantastic - it's so different from anything else on TV. I've tried to get so many people to watch it, but they never do and it's such a shame because it's one of the best comedies on TV.
You cant change or force people, you can only plant seeds. Your attracted to the show cause you can relate they aren't so they will at their own pace if needed.
ME TOO!!!!!
I just rewatched it for the million time. It's one of my comfort blanket shows during the pandemic. I love how messy these people are and so human. It dared to break down social constructs and pushed boundaries.
It's really hard to just jump in on this show. The groundwork was really set in the first two seasons. Edgar's episode in season 3 won't have the same impact if you haven't been following the series. If you are gonna watch this show, start from the beginning. It's gonna be worth it. This show has amazing actors and writers.
Elaborate on why it is so good?
It's 2018 (well, 2017 when you wrote this, I guess), why anyone would be jumping in to the middle of a show now is beyond me.
Should start from the beginning, anyways. For me, I would focus too much on trying to figure out the past tan watch it now.
Mr. Anonymous I finally broke down and bought seasons 1 to 4 on dvd. I missed the first 2 seasons, so I am all caught up and will be by the final season in Jan 19/19.
@Inebriatd Not really. Alot of shows like "Scrubs" and other episodic series can be picked up almost anywhere during the run and understood in a few hours. YTW is different.
This show is so underrated. I love this show so much. It's just so relatable and grounding, and makes you feel like you're not alone in feeling alone, sad, and lost.
WHY IS THIS SHOW ENDING WITHOUT GETTING THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES!!!!
They left us anyway
This show was so damn phenomenal and has probably the single most satisfying and perfectly executed finales' Shamefully underappreciated!
This video convinced me to check out the show and I just finished the last episode. THANK YOU! This is yet another one of the many TV shows you've recommended that I absolutely LOVED!!
I love how this show handles side characters. There simply aren't any sidekicks. I'm in season 3 right now and fully invested in the main characters best friends Edgar and Lindsay. And on top of that, even tertiary characters Vernon and Becca are well fleshed out with growth and resolutions to their own mostly unrelated arcs
I absolutely love the show, everything in the story from the way they portray mental illness and the absolute dickery of the characters to the wit, comedy and romance. Finished watching all three seasons in three days and I can't wait for season 4. It easily made it's way up into my list of favorite tv shows.
Also, I'm loving the way you created and presented your video essay. Cheers to having a new subscriber! Looking forward to seeing more.
Beautiful video man. Such a good job at not spoiling anything but making people want to see the show
Thank you! There's just so much tv out right now that some really
spectacular shows can get past anyone and I just want to. I'll do
another one of these after my next video, which will be up tomorrow!
I got hooked to this show since it aired for the first time and I don't know why it's not as popular as it should be. Maybe because it doesn't fit in typical narrative of "rom-coms" and people have hard time accepting that.
No one I know watches this show and I think it's really good, I'm so glad you made this video.
I love the way it ended. It totally stayed true the characters. Very bittersweet. Loved every moment.
Gretchen taught me a lot and helped me find a lot of answers about my own mental health
This show is great it's raw and real so far I've been watching this show from the beginning its a great show I'd highly recommend it!!
real for people living in america maybe.
"Dishonesty to spare someone's feeling belittles everyone involved" one of the best quotes in this vid
This show introduced not just great storytelling but also great music. No children is my anthem.
You're The Worst is already one of my favorite shows of all time. As someone that suffers from bipolar disorder, the second season really cemented its status for me. Thanks, again, for the great vid.
Sorry, also wanted to say there are many things to laugh at in this show, but it's more of an uncomfortable laugh. Like, the situation maybe funny in a bubble but within the scope of the show and real life, we laugh at that moment because it's so real it makes us uncomfortable. It's a coping mechanism. For the show itself, how we feel about that scene within the show, and a similar situation in real life. For me, its those three experiences that drive me reaction to nominally one instance/situation. It's sort of a meta-reaction to a compartmentalized experience because the experience is both and not real, but our reaction to those two to three instances is actually real.
you making no sense.
This video got me to watch this show and I don't think I have the words to properly convey just how grateful I am to you for that fact
It makes sense when you're an adult with flaws. I'd flip through it when it was airing but never understood back in 2014 when I was 16. Now I'm 24 and this is scary relatable but I dont feel so alone watching this perfect show for me at the moment.. I'm on season 4 and I'm scared that it will end and ill be forced to go live the real life. Its like they're friends who came to visit for a few weeks and indont want them to go away.
What's your favorite comedic show and why?
I don't know if it's my favourite, I've always really loved Scrubs. Mainly for its ability to explore darker themes of loss and failure within an otherwise comedic world. Love the channel by the way, keep it coming!
Arrested development is easily my favourite, I really love the stuff you're putting out, please keep going!.
Party Down. Its ensemble cast works perfectly off one another making for great laughs.
hezky90
It's definitely on my list of TV to watch, I've heard great things
Thanks! I really appreciate it, and Arrested Development is definitely really high on my list
I don't think anyone will see this comment, but fuck it.
I suffer from depression, and I'm getting married, and it didn't happened in 5 year period, it was shorter.. 5x times shorter, but it feels right.
I feel exactly like Jimmy and Gretchen now, I can truly empathize when Jimmy drive off after proposing, or when they have doubts about absolutely everything because I feel the same.
It is so real, it is funny, I wasn't looking for someone to complete me, and I haven't found it though.
But I have a great emotional support, she is my best friend and I always feel better when I take one day at time instead of forever like most sitcom does.
The first episode I watched was the season 2 opener. I was randomly flipping through the channels when it caught my eye. I was immediately hooked after that.
Stormfront looks cute af here
it's like a watered-down homelander and stormfront
I have been waiting for someone to do an in depth analyzation of You're the Worst on UA-cam for forever. Thank You.
Thank you for this, I know it been a while and I’m late to the party but this show really struck me and now I have a tool to convince others.
This video is the reason I started watching the show and I just finished the series finale. So good dude
this channel deserves a million subs.
and this has been my favorite show for a while.
Hey. Thank you for suggesting this series. Just finished it today. It has been a great ride of wisdom.
This is my fav show
Hi. Please do another dive on You're the Worst. It's amazing. I've grown up with it, and I just wish others to love it as much as I do.
Please make a video on Master of None. Is incredibly well written and directed
Exactly why I love show. I knew it was a good show when one character started having crippling PTSD and his friends downplay his illness not caring as much as they should.
This video had so much personality and I love how well rounded it felt. THANK YOU FOR BEING A BRILLIANT & HONEST CREATURE
Here because of stormfront
I’m still so happy this was one of your first videos
Did anyone else notice that when Gretchen moves into Jimmy's apartment she's carrying a food processor (what she wanted from the wedding à la her first conversation with Jimmy)? I'm probably reading too far into this but if this was intentional then it's a nice metaphorical touch
These characters make terrible decisions in this show and we often dislike/hate them for that, but I think we generally understand why they do so. Either through personal experience or through humanistic understanding of the characters, that may be so distant from who we actually are but can understand because they are so well written and acted. These are all nominally unlikable characters, but the show and actors help us understand why that initial (and understandable) judgement is selling them so short.
I'm drunk and love this show. Please excuse my incoherent ramblings...
Into ep 2 so far and I just see them as weak and egocentric people.
ima be honest I don't understand a lot of the fucked up decisions they make but I do'nt need to understand them always because I still love them
Awesome show! Loved it from the beginning!
why?
Terrific show. Well stated analysis. Love is messy and complicated not as typical rom-coms portray. This is a far more realistic look at love
I'm going to watch, because of the way he dispatched the mouse. 😂
EXCELLENT review of the show, and a pure description of life how it really is. Well done!
This show has a lot of quotable quotes. I've never found anything to surpass how brilliant i found this show.
I recently discovered this show on Disney Plus by pure coincidence. And now I'm watching season 5 and it is my favourite show by far.
This show is awesome! I still have the last season to watch thank God! I love the characters especially Lindsey!! The writers are amazing!
Thank you for making this. It's one of my favorite shows and more people should watch it. MARRIED was a similar show that was also great, but cancelled too soon.
Ohhhh, I know, I know!
'Cuz it's one of the best, most honest and deeply heartfelt dark comedies ever?
Nahhhh, that's too easy...... ;-)
This show is one of the best shows ever. So excited for the final season. I just got my girlfriend into it after nagging her for months about how amazing it is, we’re binging season 2 today.
Everytime I need to be emotional checked I rewatch this show. It's literally like doing mushrooms, if you you binge watch before or after a relationship. Prepare for emotional devastation
When I was watching The boys seson 2, I knew I have seen that familiar face by stormfront, now my memory clicked spark.
Finally someone gave credit to my favorite show. Idk why it isnt more popular
This show felt like it was inspired by BBC´s Him & Her. Have you seen that? (would watch that essay ;)
I have not. I'll give it a try though! What's great about it?
It is what remains when you tune down the worst to just lazy, take out some bipolarity and size down the acting and the set. A little gem. Biggesst difference is, it's not that dark.
Also, the non verbal is mostly brilliant.
This show is so god damn good, why won't anyone listen to me when I tell them to watch it?!
Just stumbled into your channel and I just gotta say, good job! It's hard to find insightful non-spoiler reviews on YT and you're definitely carving out a niche for it!
After watching Catastrophe on Amazon Prime. I did a google search on raw and honest shows and this popped up. I completely binged the show in 3 days. I absolutely loved it! Most of the characters make deplorable decisions but the rock stars of this show are Jimmy and Gretchen. I championed their relationship from day 1. They are a couple of broken people trying to figure it out. Brilliant!
this show has to be one of my favorite shows , it had some pretty great moments , but it dealt with pretty touchy topics like depression , ptsd, relationships , ect.
i've tried to get so many people to watch it and the couple people who actually listened love it so much
I found this show by accident 2 years ago. I consider this show the anti-Friends. I feel for Gretchen the most cos for the first time, a main character suffers from clinical depression--not just depressed or down but she has the same illness I do. I see Gretchen having one of her episodes, and I do understand. Though she tries to push Jimmy away, he surprised her and us when he comes back for her and builds this tent and comforts her as she cries. Seeing her cry brings tears to my eyes cos I struggle. I know why she's crying. There are 101 things I could say about this show cos I love it. A part of me is glad the show's not popular., Cos if it was popular I wouldn't be watching it. I never want to hate this show cos people want the "Lindsey" hairstyle. In other words I care about this show cos of grown to love this motley crew of friends who aren't perfect.
It's still one of my favorite sitcoms. So funny. I still have romanticized day dreams of being a successful author/celebrity dating a beautiful manic depressive girlfriend and having a diverse social circle comprised of deeply flawed people who I recreationally abuse drugs and alcohol with while suffering little to no consequence. I'd love every day. I actually own the entire series on D.V.D.. It's a shame it was never cleaned up and released on Blu-Ray. I understand why though. The show never had a huge following. At the time it was slotted into a late air time between a lot of great F.X. shows. For me it will be something I revisit from time to time for the rest of my life.
You're the Worst walked so The Bear could run.
FX is the most underated network out there.
I thinknthis show is really good, but has 1 persistent issue I have to bring up: the montages go on for too long imo
Gretchen gives me Eleanor vibes from the Good Place
Thank you for this video Ideas At Play! It's great!
Keep doing your videos! They're awesome!
Need a patreon or something. Extremely well written with interesting points
Very well presented, thank you. Excellent show that should be watched from episode one.
STORMFRONT
Nice idea for a channel, I'll stick around for a while to see if you can pull it off. Best of luck btw. Oh and yes, I watch and love YTW although it can't still be "on the air" I guess we say "in production" now? On the "Net"? On cable? Help me...
I love the ending.
Absolutely love this show amd it's music.
Sunday Funday at the haunted house is the best thing ever seen on tv!
On the fence and this video (you) tipped me over.
Sorry, I've had a drink or two but also wanted to mention how perfect (and, frankly, too obvious) the theme song, 1am by Slothrust, is. And how the intros to Gretchen and Jimmy mirror the sentiments to the lyrics fit, however ham-fisted. "I'm gonna leave you anyway..." as they both look at each other, then turn away with apprehension. The (obvious) change I would make would be for them to maybe look back towards each other for season two in the credits. But after that the irony would be obvious but I think through Season 2 it would be a neat hat tip. For Season 3, the best intro would be a Paul+Vernon Odd Couple-esque situation...aside from the fact they already went away from that buddy road trip storyline...
this video has so many spoilers...
anyway this show is truly gold... it'll take time before another romcom this good comes out. raised my bar so high, it'd be so difficult for me to watch another romcom
I've seen a lot of praise for this show. It felt like the show walked the line of "these ppl are bad and you should laugh at them" like always sunny, while at same saying "these ppl are struggling with real issues and you should relate to them" like a more wholesome sitcom...
BUT to me, I could never laugh too hard at them and at same time, felt like their lives were way too good to illicit real empathy. Maybe thats my failure to appreciate that complexity but I feel like I watch and enjoy MANY shows with "grey" morals and complicated characters. Yet this one never quite struck the balance for me, which is probably in part why it didn't succeed.
5:17 "just like us"
My favorite show and comedy!!!!!
why?
Loved you're the worst... I watched all out of order and it is still amazing. 5/3, then 4, then 1 and 2.
Amazing show
The Knick was an amazing show!!!
I’m so love this show!
I stopped this video 27 seconds in. Why? Because i'm already convinced. This video did it's titular job in 5 percent of the time alotted to it. I'm sure it will convince.
It's like two April Ludgates dating each other.
Laugh and shout "What?" during the exchanges between Gretch and Jimmy. I truly love Lindsey and her lack of filter. One issue: show is good at avoiding the hard hitting financial pressure that 30 year old people deal with here in LA. Silver Lake is crazy expensive. Unless you've been handed a pile of cash (book deal?) you are hustling to maintain a lifestyle like the one presented here. It's mostly okay because it's not why I want to watch these guys, but some of us notice how little it comes up.
Gretchen comes from a wealthy family, and is personally deep in debt. Lindsay married a banker, and after splitting up with her husband she takes up the unglamorous little studio apartment vacated by Edgar's girlfriend who moves back home because she realized she didn't have what it takes to realize her LA dreams. We are introduced to Edgar as a homeless vet who fell through the cracks in the social system and who is taken in by Jimmy, who invested in a nice house with the majority of his earnings from his freshman novel, and who himself comes from a working class background so does not think to charge rent from a buddy, no matter how long he needs to crash.
Also the part where the majority of these characters are extremely cunning, mercenary, and sleazy, exactly the kind of person who thrives in an environments that reward people for being good at bargaining, adjusting perceptions, and snaking others for fun or profit.
This makes the show seem like a drama primarily, but it's a hilarious comedy with serious topics and themes.
It’s about not falling in love and get married & kids, in the time before you do….
I liked this show but Gretchen just became completely impossible to route for by season 5, to the point where I really thought Edgar was right in saying jimmy shouldn’t marry her
Hey, are you going to do Altered Carbon? I would be really curious to see your take on it.
Big Time in Hollywood, FL
5:35 "perfect family and friends"
*shows Modern Family and Seinfeld*
Me: Ok
I recommend A Very Secret Service by Jean-Francois Halin
Easily one of the best shows I've ever watched
This is kinda one of my favorite comedies
Becsuee it’s the best show ever!!
