Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Soundtrack Seasons 1 & 2
Thank you to my supporter on Patreon JayWantsACat!
For those of you who have seen the show, what's your favorite song?
Ideas At Play
You've Ruined Everything
Settle for Me
West Covina
That's really hard. It has so many great songs. I love how each season's theme song so perfectly and subversively captures the themes of that season. Greg's songs are amazing, my favorite being What'll It Be. West Covina is obviously amazing, but when it comes to the one song I could just listen to over and over again, I think it would have to be I'm a Good Person, the explicit version. It is just so ridiculously funny and over the top, as well as endlessly catchy.
83croissant You stupid bitch.
“Dark comedy drama musical” is now the only genre of television I will watch from now on lmao
not a tv show but may i reccomend to you team starkid's hatchetfield series ( the guy who didn't like musicals and black friday) the two, especially black friday, have a good mix dark comedy and drama
@Yana Rodionova shut up lmao
@@ceruleanhearts7604 omg a wild starkid fan!

Accurate if not slightly racist description of most Bollywood productions
I loved that her ending wasn't the typical 'finding a partner and having a family' ending. There are many other 'happy endings' that deviate from this convention and I loved that they did this for her. Plus it made sense given her history.
Agreed - I think it is their way of saying "it is not important who Rebecca ends up with, but that she has met herself and so she can be happy from now on, no matter what happens next". Even if I would have loved a happy ending with Greg on top...
you are really out here spoiling the ending of the show, in the video created to encourage new people to watch it??
This show is so underrated, and I’m not just saying that. It deserves more recognition for its amazing writing, casting, and self awareness. Each character is fleshed out and the show has a satisfying ending. The show also has soooo many musical references and is very smart and spectacular in its use of musical numbers being implicated in the show.
Sorry for gushing, this show is just too good and I don’t know why it it’s so underrated.
YES YES YES been tryna spread the show to my friends as much as i can GAAAH it deserves MOOORE. love the fact it's on netflix and thats how i first saw it. thought it was like YOU but using a woman this time BUT AS SOON AS SHE SANG WEST COVINA I WAS LIKE-- I BEEN KNEW
Yeah, I don't think the name helped. I totally never understood what the show was about until I accidentally watched a scene and was like wait... this isn't an implicitly sexist comedy making fun of women?
Glad you did Crazy Ex Girlfriend! It really is underrated.
it really is...
I think it’s the lowest rated show to get a second season
It is THE most underrated thing I've watched. No other person I know has seen this show it's so sad!
This show and Jane the Virgin deserve more views
I love how 50% of the comments under every video about CxG are just people asking why more people haven't seen it. It's the question of the fandom
Side note, if you watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and haven't already paid attention to the episode names, do it. Each season has a different way of using punctuation and phrasing that perfectly reflects the season arc / main message and it's brilliant and so subtle. You don't notice it if you're reading episode names as you go, only if you look at a list for each season.
Wow, I just did it, mind blown! I only noticed as I was watching the use of Josh's name in each episode and when it stopped. But you're right! There's so much more to it! God, I love this show!
Holy shit you're right I just looked.
The one thing I noticed is that in the first 3 seasons every episode has a man's name in the title but in the last season every title starts with I
besides being great satire it also has a great balance between all of the characters, they actually get to be developed and thought through even if not all at once, not to mention diverse in more ways than one. the way they represent sexuality and mental illness (most topics tbh) is so unlike most mainstream entertainment that it's almost surreal how it's on cw
yes im completely obsessed with this show to the point that I wrote a RESEARCH PAPER about it (the thesis was how mental illness is portrayed in media versus actual diagnoses). yes I did correctly diagnose rebecca after watching only up to season 2. yes I felt incredibly proud after watching season 3.
i wondered if they'd even touch on it from the title alone, and then in boy band made up of four joshes when they say "with specialties in personality and sleep disorders" i knew that's where it was going
I would love to read your paper. Or even just know what u diagnosed her as.
Having known Rachel Bloom from her online work, I was hooked immediately. The first half of the first season, though brilliant and hilarious, can be a bit jarring, because the shift from insane surrealism to genuine drama and back felt really extreme. It felt like the show would work better as a surreal half-hour satire than a 40 minute drama and that the earnest stuff was jammed in there to fill the screentime. Later I learned that that's pretty much what happened - the show was pitched as a Showtime-esque half-hour show, but the CW only does 40-minute shows.
At the time, I described the feeling this show gave out as bi-polar. The changes in tone and character are so sharp and disorienting. So *SPOILERS* when Rebecca's diagnosis came, it all made sense. The show's essence is guided by the protagonist's own mental issues. Simply brilliant.
After reading this comment, I feel slightly worried that the changes between drama and surrealism didn't disturb me at all. :D
Right? The diagnosis made everything click together so well. I had actually low-key been expecting it. I briefly dated and am still friends with someone with BPD, so I kind of recognized the behavior.
@@samstarba4569 same
I kinda interpreted the tone shifts as normal for a musical- you just accept that reality interrupts every so often and we enter this more emotional space, but that wove fantastically well into how Rebecca's mind works
I'm so happy the CW gave them 4 seasons so they could finish the story. They really did the show justice. I'm sure there is already a college course dedicated to deconstructing this show and I'm so sad I graduated already!
Don't worry, the moment is you
mmmm please let me know where this class is taught
''i could if i wanted to'' is exactly how i feel of the world, I knew what Greg meant by that because I arrogantly think I don't need to be any better than I am because I think i'm all that and so I don't need to try anymore.
Yet, my grades are low, my ex best friend hates me, and all I can think of is if I wanted to try to help my situation, I could if I wanted to.
All my 'This is so me' numbers are Greg songs....I should probably be worried
Thanks for posting this. It's hard for people to get this show.
ikr?
It's funny that the ending I was still mildly disappointed that Rebbecca didn't choose a man, which is so clear that movies/shows have ingrained in our minds that being in a relationship is the end game, which it isn't, it's part of some people's journey.
For me, it has been so powerful and made me realise that i sometimes get in the wrong relationships to validate myself and still have yet to discover who I am.
The ending projects such a powerful message and arguably the most realistic ending of a show.
WAIT. There's a bigger CXG fan than me? I feel... Empty. Like, I need to get some margarine or something.
Ryan Lichtenstein are you satisfied with your current butter?
Stop taking advice from butter commercials!

And wait until you discover the channel Bagels After Midnight...

@@annieranai2198 oh my gosh best youtube channel
I really appreciate the diversity of the show, the well rounded characters who all have different families, ages, class, incomes, backgrounds, races, sexualities etc, the only thing missing is a physically disabled person!
🙄 Yes, because placing undue importance on a person's gender, sexuality, traumas, skin color and lack of ability is of utmost importance! Much more important than making a good story.
Congratulations, your comment got you your virtue points!👏👏👏
The show treats it like the norm, it doesn’t shove it in our faces.
@@J33-k3s dude what? one aspect of why the story is so fantastic is BECAUSE of the characters and their unique backgrounds. some people ask for more diversity because the unique perspectives and challenges are interesting to watch and can add so much to a story, its not all about virtue signaling. this person likely wanted to see a physically disabled person in the show because they know they would have been able to trust the creators to give them a fully fleshed out and complex life and arc just like real life people are fleshed out and complex and those real life people with physical disabilities deserve to see people like them in shows occasionally, like they exist in real life why do we never see them in our media
"The men I've watched with, eventually become uncomfortable at some point." You have some insecure Male friends. I found this show, suggested it to my girlfriend and she thought it looked dumb and i loved it and then she eventually did too. There's a lot of men who love this show and I'm not surprised
My male friends have liked some of the songs in the show but hate the fact that the female lead, Rebecca, is so "crazy" and unpredictable. Based on what I've heard from them, they seem to fear that women watching this show start seeing Rebecca as their role model... Lol.
@@samstarba4569 which is weird considering how the whole time it's very obvious that what she's doing is wrong. The only reason Paula supported it was because her life was boring and she needed something exciting. But other than other misguided characters using Rebecca's drama as a distraction from their own lives, they don't support what she's doing.
I love it,and I’ve introduced it to several people, male and female. The ones who aren’t into musicals are slow to get into it, but they all eventually have, as the slow burn character development gets them interested
@@wr17ful Yeah, I agree. But I've noticed that being able to understand all the dimensions of drama and audience's relationship to it demands quite a lot of interpretation skills and contextual knowledge. So it could be that they are not able to see pass Rebecca's status as the lead character but expect her to be the "good guy" in the show.
@@samstarba4569 true. I feel like that's the same thing with people that watch Rick and Morty and idolize Rick because hes main protagonist, when the message the whole time is that rick sucks.
Also “don’t be a lawyer“ “research me“ “friendtopia” “bunch of cats“ “Greg’s drinking song” and every other one that I just heard...
Don't be a lawyer is so good
this show had fantastic ratings and critical reviews and has a 98% positive rating on rotten tomatoes and a 7.8 on imdb. but it’s views were always low. it’s such a good show, i’m sad it ended and that it never received the views it deserved
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is one of my favorite shows of all time, and it's so underrated. Not only is it great for all the reasons listed in the video, but it's also an accurate portrayal of life in a place like West Covina. I live pretty close in a similar city.
when she sang "you ruined everything, you stupid bitch" i literally cried
This show is my favourite show ever. I watch it every time I feel depressed or lonely. I have BPD and this show makes me feel like I'm not alone and that I'm not the only one struggling with that illness and I'm not broken. Long live Crazy Ex-Girlfriend!!

I don't know why other guys would be insecure about watching this. Maybe if you don't like the whole musical style then it's not your thing I guess, but insecure?
And even though there are moments where it's clearly being feminist (which there's nothing particularly wrong with), I actually liked the fact that the show even satirises Rebecca's 'ultra-feminist' tendencies.
Please don't stop making these videos! They're REALLY awesome!!
Lena's Art I thought you were Jesus with that pic
This show is so underrated and it makes me so sad that not a lot of people know about it. The title alone puts people off
I really want to show this to my boyfriend, but his name is Josh (and I have struggled with anxiety and depression), and I REALLY don't want him to get the wrong impression!
I love this show so much. It has resonated with so many things in my life. It’s witty, hysterical at moments ans heartbreaking at others. Like Fleabag it’s a breath of honesty in a homogenous tv landscape that is in dire need of a POV overhaul. Give it a shot!
This is a great show with a great story, amazing characters, amazing talent, accurate representations mental/personality disorders, and it’s *still* so underrated
This show, this video and everything related to it should have SO many more views... Thanks for the insightful summary, I'll be sure to send it to friends when I'm in the middle of coercing them to watch the show! :D

It is without doubt one of my favourite shows out there. The writing is so smart and funny plus the songs are amazing. I literally listen to them on Spotify all the time.
The Santa Ana winds were iconic
I've always considered this show to be the best I've seen. Now I now why this show is the best.
Thanks for the informative video!
Ughh this show has so many fun songs but the Santa Ana winds one is literally the best. If i think about it I have to quietly sing "You ruined everything you stupid bitch"
You just reminded me why I adore cxg so much. Thank you.
You mentioned how it shows the problems with women and makes it relatable. I agree!
I also think it does the same as men. It shows that men don't always want to be chasing women but if they overstep they get accused of being a ______. What I mean is through Trent, he is literally the exact same person as Rebecca from day one, but the show acknowledges that when a man is the "stalker" it isn't fine (which is right) but a woman can often get away with it and it is viewed as cute and supported. Double standards.
It doesn't just show women inequality, it shows several instances where men are treated unfairly too, making it unbiased and really amazing.
Don’t think pedo is the right word to use here
The guys have some great arcs about struggling with masculinity. Nathaniel buries everything he actually likes and wants under a facade of the perfect successful businessman his dad wanted him to be. Greg's alcoholism and pursuit of Rebecca are heavily intertwined with his reluctance to express his feelings and insecurities about whether he's good enough. And to balance that out, you have Darryl the devoted dad who struggles with oversharing, or the mature and emotionally savvy Father Bruh and white Josh, and even Josh, probably the most comfortable with the traditional masculine role. You have a whole spectrum
So glad people are talking about this amazing show! I'm in season two right now. I'm subscribing.
Sending this to all my friends. I’m bad at explaining things, esp things that I’m excited about so this is gonna help!
I really loved this. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! That means the world to us. The work you do is truly so amazing!
Thank YOU for all the great work you do on a great show!
Everyone has their own issues to confront, but we still have the capacity for growth and self-respect-that’s what I love about this show. That it also has wacky musical numbers is brilliant.

Crazy ex girlfriend is by far the best tv show I’ve watched in a very long time. That show has helped me in so many ways. It inspired me to date myself for awhile and learn that it’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you recognise them and actively try to do better.
You don’t have to sell me on that show; I already love it. 💗 💕 ❤️
I actually believe that in some moments the writters poke fun at the more extreme ideals of femenism, they obviously use satire as a tool, but yeah even if It has heavy roots on femenism the show doesnt shy away from the more extreme viewpoints the ideology pushed into the public eye recently
Waldo Lumberjack i think it pokes at commercial feminism, mostly. how the idea of women is constructed, how its used, how its harmful. It's complex
dude you can't even spell feminism...
Oh definitely! No movement or ideology as expansive as feminism can be perfect. And it isn't. And the show acknowledges that, true.
My favourite show used to be Community. Now, it's CXGF. I guess I have a thing for shows that are light on the surface, but can reckon with actually screwed up people in a way that's, simultaneously heightened, and human. CXGF took the lead, because it does that better. As big a deal as Dan Harmon has been for me, I don't think it's a coincidence that a woman lead show is better at that.
That was such a great video! I love Crazy ex girlfriend so much, and I'm really glad you guys created a video that encapsulates the love i have for the show!

i finished all 4 seasons and yet i watched this video idk why
So I'm a guy and I watched this show with my girlfriend and my female best friend and female bestie is the one who got too uncomfortable and stopped watching. The missus and I watched all three seasons in like...a normal period of time...and definitely not a weekend. TAKE THAT presenter who said the thing about guys being uncomfortable with lady things.
That said the episode, "Who Needs Josh When You Have a Girl Group?", made all three of us quit for like 36 hours, too much concentrated cringe.
I think she meant the men she has known. I'm happy you're chill with the show and its themes!

Yeah this show is great
Damn I love that show
Is crazy ex-boyfrend also sexist, or is it a one-way street?
It’s sort of a one way street. Crazy Ex Boyfriend isn’t really a big stereotype or trope. Usually if someone calls an ex bf crazy it’s because he was controlling or abusive.
While I agree with a lot of things.. It's not as feminist as this video portrayed it. It has an episode almost mocking feminism as it is now.
And also... my bf and another male friend both watched this show and at no point felt uncomfortable in any way. Almost all mature men won't in any way feel attacked or grossed out by anything happening in this show.
I ff love this show
The part that made me uncomfortable was the descriptions of period sex, exevept for the song period sex that was hilarious
