- When I was a kid, I really dug all the classic Disney Cartoons that used to come on this wonderful segment. I also ended up finding the soundtrack at a Record store. Strangly enough , I found the CD after having thought I had lost it! It was kinda roughed up but it still works. So, I'm pretty sure its rare by now, and I've decided to share it by uploading it to You Tube. If you want to hear the rest, just say so and I'll upload more whenever I have the time.

As soon as school was over I ran home as fast as I can to watch the Disney Afternoon. Our childhood was awesome thanks to Disney.
Who the hell did Disney hire to sing their 90's cartoon themes? These dudes were TOTALLY into it.

Gargoyles was one of a kind, especially coming from Disney. I don't think we'll ever see a show of that quality from them again.
Totally agree. It was DCAU dark. I actually did an episode dedicated to Gargoyles on how it was the black sheep of the Disney afternoon lineup with creator Greg Weisman.
Funnily enough, I was born in 2008, yet this is nostalgic to me. Must’ve watched it in a past life, most likely!
Well in 2022 if you are 14, you would now be living in the early 2000s if somehow you watched 90s Disney cartoons as kid. Kind of like Turning Red since its a movie about the early 2000s teens (millennial in 2022) but released in 2022 when teens in 2022 were born in late 00s.
I was glued to the TV when I heard this meaning it was time to watch my favorite Disney cartoons.
In denmark this show was called "Disney Sjov" (Disney Fun) and came every friday afternoon! It was just a instrumental short version of this theme, but it was awesome still :D
Man, i wish i could have watched this, it looked so fun!
Kids today will never know what it was like to come home from a long, tiring, stressful day of school to just be able to sit down and watch these timeless shows. Though some shows are far better than others (4 of the best shows being "Ducktales", "Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers", "Darkwing Duck" and "Talespin") and other shows range from "ok" (" Gummi Bears", "Timon & Pumbaa", "Goof Troop" and "Aladdin") and other shows being downright "what the hell were they thinking?" ("Bonkers", "Mighty Ducks" and -sighs- "Quack Pack") and of course their most well written show "Gargoyles". The Disney Afternoon will still remain to being one of the crown jewels of my childhood. And it will NEVER be replaced. No matter how many of them get remade or rebooted, it will never even hold a candle, screw it, a match to the original.

I live in New York and I would rush home from school and quickly turn on channel 11! Disney greatness! The times before cable was in New York.
Now kids will rush home, turn on the tv to a noncable channel and find... judge shows and talk shows. :( Miss the old days and pity the current generation (lucky there are still some good to decent shows still left like Phineas and Ferb and the new Spiderman but still).
Gadget, Scrooge, Darkwing and others still in my heart.
Disney today and the kids in this era are completely missing out on the most precious value that cartoons should have. And that true value is,(comes in three words) Hand Drawn Animation! It might have been hard work making these shows but at least the animators of that time in the 80's and 90's put there hearts into what they did!

I always loved catching this song when I was kid. Always made me happy. But because my bus stop was always last I was never home in time mostly to actually hear it. I remember I was so used to it that when my bus got me home early I was thrilled to hear it.
I know that at least past a certain season I only watched a few shows on it. I was never happy when they would put one show on instead of another in the last two seasons.
I miss this.

Disney Afternoon block had my favorite cartoon shows
The opening of The Disney Afternoon was one of the best opening segments on television. It had a wonderful tune, visually appealing, and great use of the characters. It seemed to say to me Get ready for two hours of awesome. When I think of TDA I think of grand television animation shows (Mainly: Gummie Bears, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers (3rd favorite but has my favorite Disney Character: Gadget), Tailspin, Duckwing Duck (#2 Favorite), Goof Troop, and Bonkers (weakest of TDA group above but ok).
To be honest I always wanted to kill those Mice and chipmunks they make me so frustrated 😡

I miss those days too. The 90s were a good era for Disney, when you didn't have the crap you have now. I miss the Disney Afternoon so much, I even made a tribute to it. You're all welcome to check it out if you want.

I think a better question for this is: What idiot did Disney hire that came up with the idea to cancel and veto the airing of this beautiful thing, along with other quality programming and the vulgarization of Today's current Disney productions?
Probably the same idiot that thought Quack Attack and The Mighty Ducks were good shows to put on the Disney Afternoon. Was Kathleen Kennedy working for Disney back then?
Man, this is just filling me up with so much nostalgia of coming home from school w/ my brother and sitting around the tv, watching the classic Disney toons we loved.

This has me wondering... though change is always inevitable, how the FLIP did our Disney go from whimsy, fun, imaginative, and memorable cartoons, to teen shows that apply a laugh track and angst every which way they can?
How has the number of teen sitcoms outnumber the cartoons? The things that made Disney relevant in the first place??
Why is Disney's mascot only seen on a preschool show??

OK, if I achieve my dream of becoming a famous Animated Series Maker, I promise tthe next things:
1) Resurrect this idea of the DA: Disney Afternoon 2, and start to create a new series of animated shows as great as these.
2) If I can do this, I will keep this song.
3) One of those series will be a reebot of The Replacements, keeping the first beautiful design, but changing a lot of itself for its own good.
So, here are my three promises. I hope I can accomplish them. See you!

I don't think so: I'm just ending college, and there's a long distance before I can create my first animated series.

+mickeyelric11 The Replacements? That show could use a lot of improvement. I was 7 when it was out.
Yes, it could: the premise wasn't that great, but the characters' design is one of my favorite of all time, and it got plenty of good concepts for the characters, like the main kids beiong former orphans, a daredevil dad, a spy mom, and friends with their own personality. Maybe someday!

Oh, man this brings back memories. Disney cartoons have really gone down since the Disney Afternoon.
Goliath looks incredibly out of place here. He's a tall, dark, intimidating gargoyle amongst happy-go-lucky colorful cartoon characters

This was never in Australia, from memory, but somehow I ended up with the theme songs on a cassette tape when I was a child. I listened to it often. I never knew the names of the songs because the writing was faded but I've always held on to it. I only just rediscovered it and already played it through twice.
I would get so angry when I was a kid because I didn't get home from school until 4pm and I would always miss Gummi Bears and Duck Tales lol. At least I got to see it all in the summer.
This reminds me of good times watching the shows associated with it.
By the way, there ARE good, funny shows like these out there. You just have to find them. I, for one, like the Wizards of Waverly Place and Phineas and Ferb, but some of you have other favourites.

Instead of a corporation that's selling child stars and cheesy acting from their live-action programming. Yet, they still have them as their "mascots/icons" and I hear out of the corner of my ear of some kids going, "Mommy who's that character, I don't remember seeing him/her?" That's when Disney has lost that luster of magic that they can offer.

I just got The Disney Afternoon Collection for PlayStation 4 today! I'm loving it so far!!! I remember playing Duck Tales 2 on a friend's Nintendo Entertainment System, and a friend's Rescue Rangers game on my own Nintendo Entertainment System. Good times!!!
I was on the iTunes Store and bought 3 seasons of DuckTales. They also had Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Goof Troop, but no Darkwing Duck.
why do i have a strange feeling that every household in the 90s that had kids was tuned into this channel.
The Disney Afternoon aired on local TV. In Las Vegas (where I'm from) it was on channel 21 (KRLR) which was later turned into UPN.

same here. here in San Francisco it was on Channel 44 (KBHK) wich turned into UPN (now CW)
Here in Los Angeles is was on Channel 9(still an independent station) which disney used to own in the early 90s before they bought ABC

Out of all the fantastic shows on this segment "Talespin" will always remain closest to my heart. Actually most of the DA shows started out as programs on the Disney Channel before they went to syndication on Disney Afternoon. Bonkers actually had an all new season made for syndication. (Which was actually a prequel to the one shown on Disney Channel.)
The show called “Disney Adventures (迪士尼奇幻世界)” in Hong Kong area, instrumental music for both Cantonese and English Version, Aired at 1994 to match the introduction of Aladdin (TV series).

This brings back so many memories! I miss Saturday Morning Cartoons. I had a Saturday off and tuned into 7am TV. All nothing but News. No wonder these kids these days have not imagination. They are being pounded with reality all the time. I've been taking the time to find all the old Saturday Morning Cartoons on DVD so that I can share this great line up with them! The late 80's and Early 90's were the best times for Cartoons!! Bring them back!!

I was born in 1994, so the second half of the 90s for me was pure HEAVEN, with so many awesome kid's shows coming out, ESPECIALLY Gargoyles! (Well, mostly on re-runs, anyway)

So true, but then again Gargoyles never fitted with the stereotypical Disney cartoon and the show does, in my opinion, stand out as the best Disney TV show ever, in terms of rich plot. There are other shows I like as well, but Gargoyles has such a brilliant and epic plot u just can't beat it
I know we all miss old Disney, but don't lose hope! They're putting out a traditional film this Christmas, so maybe they're finally turning around!
Ducktales is still one of my all-time favorite kid's shows.
The first seasons of "DuckTales" were for everyone. Disney lavished money on the series.
It was based on a very successful series of comic books by Carl Barks who really introduced the Scrooge McDuck character.

What we need are people with creative ideas. Creative cartoonists can bring a new golden age of animation. There's just no one with any sort of unique idea anymore. The creators in these days were innovative, but their time has drawn to a close. Get thinking, people!

Those of us who were kids during this time know that this is when cartoons were at there best. Now they are just dumb.
Disney could really reestablish themselves as the best in the market if they would just relaunch this block of shows. Start by airing the originals, then air new episodes of them.
I'd love it if my kids could grow up on them like I did.
I miss these shows. I wish they would reboot these shows or add new ones.

Great theme tune this was. Although being theme for Disney Afternoon in USA/Canada it was also the theme tune to The Disney Club here in the UK, which was on CITV Sunday mornings at 9.25am. The lyrics were changed here to that the words 'Disney Afternoon' was not heard.

I have this cd im almost 27 and still love it! I remember th disney in the afternoon shows right after school my brother and i would watch together we loved them!

My folks took a hammer to both the cassette and CD because I played it to the point of 'irritation'. My grandparents simply bought me another cassette that met with the hammer along with the cassette player grandma bought me later on the second CD and CD player met with the meat mallet when my grades in Social Science and Social Studies slipped to a B- and a C+

christopher coleman In my parents house there were NO Secret Hidden Places. Our house was open concept before open concept was even popular. My dad built the house from the ground up and ensured there was no where to hide things.
