It's their job to build a case for the DA and if you're their prime suspect there's nothing you can say or do to avoid it so it's best to use your rights. This is a ridiculous video, but my guess is that the prosecutor has to document Paul's reply to each and every question regardless.
So many victims should have been spared from this man's evil. All Cal Poly police had to do was some very basic questioning when Kristin was first reported missing. They wasted precious time due to gross incompetence and criminal negligence. They could have called Kristin's parents immediately to see if she was with them for the holiday weekend. They could have spoken with her roommate about her last known location and her daily habits. They could have put her photo all over campus, with instructions to contact campus police if they had seen or heard from her on or after Friday night. What did they have to lose if were to have shown up a few days later from a camping trip? Why not err on the side of protecting human life? Laziness? Ineptitude? Fear of reputational damage? What's worse for their reputation, showing the community you'd rather play it safe and protect students, or showing the community that your child does not matter to them, and you would sooner sweep a missing girl under the rug than attempt to find her? Had campus police acted immediately, they would have landed on Paul almost immediately. He was the last person seen with her, and there were plenty of students from that party that would have attested to his disturbing behavior on the night of her disappearance. They could have also connected Paul to several disturbing events that had been documented since he'd started as a student at Cal Poly. Those few things alone would have been more than enough to warrant searching Paul's dorm room. There, they would have likely found physical evidence of Kristin's demise. They could have looked Paul's phone records and would have found out that he contacted family in the early morning hours after Kristin's disappearance. That would have been enough to execute search warrants on the homes of every family member Paul contacted, as well as their vehicles. With the most basic police work, this all could have happened within 24-72 hours after Kristin's disappearance. The concrete at Susan's home wouldn't have been set yet, and they may have never even gotten the opportunity to pour it. The trashcan containing Kristin's belongings would have been recovered from Susan's home. Kristin's body would have been discovered in a fresh grave beneath Ruben's deck. All with the most basic ticking off of investigative boxes. Because of terrible police work combined with a university that cared more about their reputation than the well-being of their students, justice was delayed for almost a quarter century. Even then, this case was really only solved because of one single man's willingness to care about Kristin more than an entire campus police department or country sheriff's office ever dared to. Even now that that Paul has been convicted and sentenced, Kristin's family will never have the closure that they deserve. They will likely never be able to find their daughter's remains. Ruben and Susan continue to live their lives free of consequences and continue to deny the Smarts the one thing that can bring them peace. Kristin's remains. There needs to be more accountability in this case and others like it. This sort of refusal to investigate properly should have severe consequences. Universities need to be more afraid of the consequences of attempted coverups than they are of reputational damage. Law enforcement should be held accountable for shoddy police work. Why has the detective who "lost" Kristin's earring (with a bloody fingerprint on it) never been identified? How can an investigator receive such a key piece of evidence, refuse to immediately inform the family of the finding (they had to find out almost by accident from deposition of the tenants renting Susan's property. To this day, no one has been held accountable for losing that evidence. It's absolutely unacceptable. I hope the Smarts win each of their lawsuits. I can only imagine their agony in knowing how many things were done so poorly. Moral of the story, don't become a law enforcement officer if the idea of doing paperwork for a missing person is too much to ask of you. If you can't be bothered to do your job, please find another field of work, where your laziness does not lead to the needless suffering of others.
I don't believe he needs to answer questions like this, but at the very least he should make a detailed statement of what he knows, on his own free will.

Regardless of the outcome of this case, I truly hope the Smart family finds closure. I was a teen living in SLO at the time this occured, and it was a complete shock to everyone. SLO had always been an extremely safe community, and this crime was one of two I can recall throughout all of my years living there. The first of which was a baseball card shop robbery, that had ended up resulting in a murder that (to my knowledge) has never been solved.
@@suzettelilly9462 Yes, very true. I could never imagine the feeling of losing a child, and the emptiness felt for the rest of my life. My words were not intended as a moment of celebration, and I apologies for the way I had written them out. I just meant the family can now be assured this sick indifivudalt has finally been punished, and will live the rest of his life being held accountable for the horrible actions he chose to do. Being a teenager at the time, and living in San Luis Obispo - this tragedy really struck our community hard. These things never happened back then, and it was terrifying. Then knowing over the last 25+ years this same man had been the prime suspect, and always found a way to avoid conviction, it had to have been a terrible feeling for Kristen’s family. So with yesterdays ruling, I just hope the family can feel some sort of closure.
Lmao I’d be mad if it were anybody else, but with Paul Flores it’s just plain funny. I’m sure he’s had it changed since then, this deposition recording has been public for decades.
Lol ikr.. but then again who would want to steal his identity? Being Paul Flores doesn’t sound fun, and apparently he’s broke because his parents pay for everything
@1:20 to 2:40 the defense is told that they will have trouble if they make a blanket refusal to give testimony other than the name and then later tries to get them to do just that, but the defense lawyer reacts gruffly and refuses to let it happen. I do hope justice is served.
Yeah, even innocent you don't want to answer these questions because it's very easy to misrepresent one thing and get circled back on it. As much as it sucks to see the guilty profit, it saves more innocent.
The attorney is doing what he is paid to do.Detective is asking questions that they already know the answers to. Now that he is arrested is he answering questions in the same way? He is guilty as hell, I hope that they get him.
I hate obvious killers as much as the next person but your anger is misdirected when you aim it at someone hired to do their job: Defense Attorney. They didn't kill anyone, they're paid money and attended school to defend people.
It is obvious that Paul Flores is guilty. Why? 1. He was the last person that was with Kristin Smart. Plus, he is about the same age and the same ethnicity (caucasian) as Kristin Smart. When young males are out with young females alone, young males are probably going to make their move on young females. 2. Also, he refused to answer questions from the reporter at the end of this video. If you are innocent, you would not mind being questioned. But, he acted more like a guilty person at the end of the video. 3. Pay attention to his body language especially with his facial expressions in this video. He has the look of a guilty person and probably has remorse for his actions. Even the lawyer deep down knows that Paul Flores is guilty. 4. Furthermore, his neighbors describe his personality as quiet, paranoid but smart. I think this personally would fit a killer. 5. Finally, he has been in trouble with the police especially for DUI. The bottom line is that Paul Flores is the #1 suspect for kidnapping or raping and killing Kristin Smart. He should be prosecuted/convicted and be in jail by now.
I have never committed a crime and if I’m ever arrested I will plead the fifth because giving a sworn testimony can be incriminating whether you’re guilty or innocent! I think he may be guilty, but I wasn’t there, I don’t know him, and I cannot pass judgment on somebody unless I know them personally and have solid evidence. He will never get a fair trial and that’s a shame. It will either be a hung jury or mistrial.
His lawyer in this video may be a snake, and lacking ethics. But he’s helping his client and doing his job by not allowing the lawyer on the other side to hijack the proceedings and redirecting it to why they are there to begin with. That said, the lawyer on the other side is trashy. He’s bad at his job. Keep asking all the questions, if they’re that good.
I find it humorous that suspected criminals are asked to swear to tell the truth. Why our court system requires a sworn oath from people is just a waste of air and time.
As frustrating as this may be, this is our constitution and the lawyer and defendant has the right to choose to practice their rights. His attorney is doing his job , he’s there to defend and shield his client. If by chance your family member or yourself should find yourself involved in a civil case, you’d probably do the same and your attorney would as well. This is why our judicial system is the best in this world, frustrating I agree, but the best.
Just watched the video. Woooooooow, this guy so arrogant in his body & face language, at that age and in that situation he was facing you'd think he'd be worried sick. That's a sign of a sociopath! Good fucking lawyer, focused and on his game, no wonder why he got off this case.

and they the other attorney keeps the game going by continuing to ask questions when he's been told all questions will be met with the 5th. It's just a show so that a video can be made and distributed.

How is Paul Flores not in jail right now? He should be in prison. He is the obvious suspect in the case.
@@123ucr You don't go to prison just for being a suspect. It's innocent until proven guilty. Guilt is based on evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. I think the average kid in middle school knows this but you don't for some reason
@@shaheedharun445 --- I actually know that. But, remember he is the prime suspect. And if you are the prime/#1 suspect, majority of the time you are probably guilty. That being said, he is innocent until proven guilty but I think he is guilty. In fact, he was the last person seen with the victim.

He's in custody today.

Lol!!!
Ty!
Watching it to see Paul's demeanor my time wasn't wasted.
And who and his father were just arrested...??? Interesting.
They received a warrant to seize txt messages and to tap phones.. that’s how they ended up getting them.
How crazy is it that during this interview, Kristin Smart’s body was still probably buried at his Father’s house.
Her body was there for so many years and they recently found her DNA there. Hope Paul Flores and his Father who helped hide Kristin’s remains at his house rots in prison.
they did not find her DNA there!
@@dubvideos no because the family removed much dirt out and replaced it with fresh
@@8188jlpc Evidence is what they need
If they would have been arrested then she would have been found and her poor family would have been able to give her a proper burial.
Not answering questions is the best defense most times... you give them nothing so they have to literally prove you guilty.
In this case, it took 25 years but his refusal to answer questions won't matter because the authorities found what they needed to convict his ass and his father's ass.
Tbh if I ask you if you like cheeseburgers, and "On the advice" is your constant answer, you're giving off more guilty vibes then a little kid who has crumbs on their face.
Yas
And they did. Bucko is off to prison for hopefully the
rest of his life. The trial verdict is guilty, guilty, guilty.
Justice for Kristin Smart and the whole Smart family.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
If he did nothing wrong -what the hell has he got to hide? Guilty as sin
He looks so uncomfortable!! He was so guilty!! So sorry the Smart family had to wait so long for justice! 💔💔🙏🏼
Easy to say after knowing the outcome.Innocent peole can also become uncomfortable during interviews.
Why is that “lawyer” acting shady AF???
This is what FIRES ME UP about our law and the court system. This is making a mockery of the death of Kristen Smart.
Nepoleonic law like in Mexico is the defendant has to prove he is not guilty. So that means gossip can get you convicted. Because you want this guy put in jail you want to throw away everyone else's rights.

He's going to finally pay for what he did. He won't be able to plead the 5th anymore. The evidence is stacked against him & his father.

@@thefonzkiss not nice
that attorney was not so bad... he got him out of jail for 25 years...... until now
I always tell my kids not to talk to cops whether they're innocent or guilty. It's their job to build a case for the DA and if you're their prime suspect there's nothing you can say or do to avoid it so it's best to use your rights. This is a ridiculous video, but my guess is that the prosecutor has to document Paul's reply to each and every question regardless.
no, bad policing kept him out of hail that long.
Sad that police had him all along but let him go and put alot of women at risk...
his lawyer should be thrown in the same cell with him. He is complicit in the fact that a murderer could live free for 25 years
👎 no we need lawyers that make the state do their job.
That makes no sense
I don't believe he needs to answer questions like this, but at the very least he should make a detailed statement of what he knows, on his own free will.
Lot of people innocently get thrown in jail for doing that cz lawyers twist things. It's best to not give anything. Either way, hes been arrested today .
*He has balls never leaving the state that he killed her in*
If he’s guilty. Not if he’s innocent.
No, serial killers and rapists stay close to their familiar territory. Also, the body is under one of his homes. He couldn't move away.
I think it's pretty clear he has something to continue to assault, drug, and rape women, AND film many of them without consent, for many years after. :-/
Wait, they never blurbed out his social? Haha

He freaked out when he was told he would be subjected to a polygraph.
Nice to know he's sitting in jail now charged with the murder of Kristin Smart.
Wonder how that attorney feels today.
On advice of my attorney i refuse to answer that question based on the fifth amendment of the United States constitution ...
I LOVE THE CONSTITUTION.
At this point was he arrested for the crime? If not, he doesn’t have to answer any questions. It’s sad but true
No, he's never been arrested. This video is from a civil case. In any even, always plead the 5th. It's in the US Constitution for a reason.
Yeah, even innocent you don't want to answer these questions because it's very easy to misrepresent one thing and get circled back on it. As much as it sucks to see the guilty profit, it saves more innocent.
Agreed.
It's not "sad", it's the law. This is a civil deposition.
The attorney is doing what he is paid to do.Detective is asking questions that they already know the answers to. Now that he is arrested is he answering questions in the same way? He is guilty as hell, I hope that they get him.
I hope his lawyer lives with this everyday , if he has a daughter how does he feel as a father! 😔
He’s a defense attorney, POS just doing his job
just making sure the state does their job. i would think the attorney that failed to do this are the real POS
It’s pretty obvious he did it. LE is just waiting for some physical to tie him to the case
Bingo. Just arrested
Darn, Paul's attorney was on point though you have to admit. He simply pointed and tapped at a pre-prepared statement.
I wonder if he's repeating that same amendment right now singing the same tune like a jailbird with his pops today.
The difference between what is legal and what is right.
I can’t believe they didn’t bleep out his social security number! Lol
They really left in his social security number!!! Lmao

@@cj6281 not anymore
His lawyer in this video may be a snake, and lacking ethics. But he’s helping his client and doing his job by not allowing the lawyer on the other side to hijack the proceedings and redirecting it to why they are there to begin with.
That said, the lawyer on the other side is trashy. He’s bad at his job. Keep asking all the questions, if they’re that good.
I find it humorous that suspected criminals are asked to swear to tell the truth. Why our court system requires a sworn oath from people is just a waste of air and time.
It’s so they can charge people for when they’re caught lying. Definitely not a waste.
I keep thinking his Paul Flores' family is well connected or paying law enforcement for the guy to get away with so much for so long.
