I've been running this system since January, and it has been great! The fit and feel of the shifter & derailleur is much better than I expected when I ordered it. I paid $386 for mine at the time, now it's about a hundred dollars more. The best thing is that I didn't have to spend any more money upgrading my drivetrain, just place it on the bike with the existing equipment, set it up and you are good to go. The battery is not an issue either, it's not like you have to charge it every night, maybe if you ride quite a bit, you'll have to top it off once every month or two. A wall outlet or power bank will do the trick for you. Get it, try it and I'm pretty sure that you'll love it.
I really like the ability to select drivetrain speeds, as well as the overall look and build quality, however the price is too high for me to ever take a gamble... Maybe Wheeltop needs to show a bunch of people standing on the derailleur to justify the price?😉 Still it's awesome to see more and more competition for SRAM, which is only a good thing for us!
I would only install this if the price is right. The Shimano I presently run is outstanding (TX shifter with SLX derailleur). It would be hard to beat my present system.
The price does not match the product, if the intention was to compete with Sram they should put at least 50% down to attract interest, as Sram has technical support and spare parts everywhere even in small countries.

When you do a price comparison against AXS this product is not really _significantly_ cheaper. It does have the advantage of being interoperable with almost any casette or crankset in a wider range, so you don't NEED to replace every part of the drivetrain. But without being able to swap/remove the batteries (you've gotta plug the whole bike in rather than just putting the battery in a charger). You're saving maybe $100-200 over AXS? And with SRAM's new bottom tier S-1000 wireless kit, the point becomes moot. Go with the real deal. If this were available in the sub $400 price range, to compete with Shimano XT mechanical, it might make sense.

It's not mentioned in the video, but EDS OX EQ (and I think all EDS models) have ability to adjust spacing (steps) between individual cogs. Something SRAM refuse to implement, judging by the long thread for that function. For me battery it still at 70% today 22/07/2024 (mounted EDS on 03/07/2024) and made couple of rides around 100 km both on and off road. EDS is "rated" for 20000 shifts with one charge - who knows will it reach it, but for now battery life is OK. BTW battery is replaceable, just not easy replaceable. There is couple of bolts which holds that plastic cover and you can reach the battery. There is video somewhere with Russian guy who show how to open it. Only issue I have is with shifter which ergonomics is not ideal. After a lot of adjustments I settle for a position, but it is still not ideal. Wish there was a swing clamp or something to bring shifter closer to the bar. On the other hand it's pretty simple clamp and someone can design a better clamp ... P.S. On the marketing materials Wheeltop shows EDS GeX which is new gravel model and it's confirmed. There is another one EDS EX with picture where cable is visible, may be for e-bikes, but nothing official yet.

@Jeckyll4e Yes, this definitely has a very noticeable advantage over the big two S brands in terms of compatibility with other drivetrain pieces, you're not forced into running a 12 speed casette, which might necessitate new hubs/wheels, which might not fit in your dropouts. I went down that rabbit hole recently with converting my 2015 Fuji Cross to Rival AXS, and the biggest pain in the ass was going from 10 speed to 12. I had to get new wheels, which were only available in 12x140 thru axle, so I had to find end caps for the DT hubs to fit my 10x135mm dropouts. If I had to do it all over again, I would've just stuck with Tiagra on that bike.

@@LoveMTB correct, I always forget that. Only one of my mountain bikes runs AXS, and that's the rarely ridden e-bike. The others are mechanical XT or XTR, for which there isn't even a Di2 option yet.
@LoveMTB I realized I lied earlier - I have a 2008 Speshy Epic on 26" wheels running 2x10 Deore that I built from the frame up last year, mostly ebay parts, but the drivetrain was purchased new. I have no issues with that bike. I don't ride it much, but it was a fun build. I always wanted an '08 Epic - the first full suspension frame to win a UCI XC world cup.
@LoveMTB @EvansMTBSaga just did a review of the stumpjumper 15 frame, that doesn't even have routing for a RD, but comes pre-equipped/ built around a fox rear shock. So the frame CAN'T be built without a SRAM drivetrain, but doesn't use a SRAM (rockshox) rear spring. This leads me to believe that a fully wireless shimano rear derailleur is not too far off on the horizon.
I like an idea, but for now it's just too expensive. In my mind electric shifters will be cheaper than mechanics version, because it's easier to fix something with FW, than precision mechanics.
I think competition is good and always benefits the consumers. However, I'm a bit worried about the non-removeable battery. I have the AXS system on one of my bikes and I know myself well enough to carry a spare battery in my hydration pack. It's small enough that it doesn't take up much room and I'm glad I did because I had to use it on one of my rides because I forgot to check the power level on the battery already on the bike. With this I can't do that and for me I know it's just a matter of time before I end up riding a very heavy single speed bike in the wrong gear out of the woods. I wonder if there's any kind of warning like flashing lights or occasional beeping when the power level gets down to like 15 or 20% to remind you to recharge.
That’s why I have the AXS Reverb!😊 for the extra battery. Low battery warning, there is something about a mode change when battery gets that low have not seen it yet. More to come

This is the big problem with having battery part of the derailleur just e-bikes with non removable batteries people that don’t have a garage it will make it very inconvenient to charge the battery. In my case if it doesn’t have removable batteries it’s a big no for me!
powerbanks are dirt cheap these days, so I wouldn't make a big deal of it. I don't know if there were any situations where the AXS battery fell out on a trail and got lost, but riding without the protective cover sram provides makes me a little anxious, so non removable battery might be on the plus side

€580 for a shifter with a non-removable battery? No, thank you - that's definitely a deal-breaker for me. You can get a battery for a SRAM shifter for less than €40 from any online shop, and this engineering marvel will probably turn into a pumpkin after 800 charge cycles.
They need to get QA, materials and fit and finish and app refinement up to speed. Before that, its Chinese crap that will go in the landfill when they decide to release the next version thats not at all compatible with this one. The battery not being removable is a failure. No shipping the bike easily, no taking it on flights without pulling the derailleur off, silly and worthless.

No one is getting triggered nowadays for the lack of 2x for MTB. Even gravel is going towards 1x. Road still has a long way to go with 1x since the gear jumps are still too large.

I still run 2x10 on my 2010 Specialized Epic. My dad runs 2x11 on his 2016 Santa Cruz Blur. I don't see why you COULDN'T run a mechanical front derailleur in combination with this electronic rear, especially because the app (while a pain to use) has a lot of options for setting cog sizes and trim. You'd definitely want the longer cage, of course, and you'd probably wanna keep your chainring sizes within 12 teeth of one another, like a 34/46, 32/44, 30/42, or even more narrow like a 30/40, depending on your local elevation changes and how wide of a rear casette you're running.
I Hate Electronics remember how Cellphone works Back then? they started as replaceable batteries. fast forward to 2024 you'll replace the entire phone when the battery dies. same concept with Overrated Sram they start with replaceable batteries then after 10 to 20yrs they will introduce replace the entire mech. and these influencers are pushing these products. Unfortunately their MTB and Road shifters are not interchangeable so you cannot even use the road FD
