Thank you. Yes, the cold sinks in and that´s why we use 5 mm thick neoprene waders. They make a big difference. If you are on a constant move the cold is usually not a problem, but when sitting still and waiting it is difficult to stay for more than one hour in the water.

I was in my floating hide the other day. 2 issues with it. Difficult to see incoming ducks and because the lake was so shallow I had to move around on my knees for 3 hours. But, it is really cool.
They are really good. It seems there is a growing competition in manufacturing floating hides. There are at least three domains with "floating hide" dot com something. The one we got ours from is www.floating-hide.com/

This is not a boat, but if I stop reaching to the bottom it´s possible to hold on to the floating hide with special grips. It is very difficult to swim and it moves very slowly. It can be dangerous because you should always reach the bottom. If there is a strong current you don´t control where you are going - so be careful. It is wonderful for what it´s designed for - photographing in swallow ponds and lakes, not in rivers or the sea. It´s sold at the website floating-hide.com/en
I have not used flippers. Using the legs like a swimming dog works, but very slowly. It would be interesting to try small flippers. They might help with swimming faster. In general I would though not recommend going to deep water because swimming is not very effective.

It can be dangerous to go to deep water on big lakes since you can only swim very slowly and you have to hold on to the hide.It is not a big problem to go short distances over deep water, but I would count that in few yards. @@Trigger-xw9gq

It can be tricky to find the right depth in some lakes. :-) Still a great way to photograph birds.
