🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🎯 *There are two types of goals: objective goals (personal achievements) and subjective goals (involving others).*
02:20 🗓️ *Calendar is more powerful than a task manager for goal tracking; it's non-negotiable and anchors your time.*
03:48 📅 *Task managers are good for specific tasks like monthly savings, but bad for most types of goals.*
06:35 🏋️‍♂️ *For health and fitness goals, schedule activities on your calendar to make them non-negotiable.*
08:01 📚 *When pursuing subjective goals like career growth, use the calendar to allocate study time and acquire necessary skills.*

A really important reminder to those of us who under-use our calendars. That is already being remedied in 2024.

What’s your opinion for having everything in calendar, even those small tasks? I mean, it’s really difficult to always check reminders and calendar to balance where I’m going to spend my time.

For me that breaks the Unix design philosophy, of apps doing one thing and doing it well... which is why I don't use the task feature of Morgen.

It's not something I do. A task can be done at any time in a day (or week) - those go into a task manager. An event needs to be done at a specific time or is a date-specific piece of information. Those would be on my calendar.

@@Carl_Pullein Do you have an event on your calendar to remind you to take action on the tasks? How do you make sure to reserve time to check the tasks? Personally, I also need to block off this event on my calendar.

@Carl.. so what is the solution to not ‘observing the calendar’. Sure if it is a meeting with other individuals that is easy to keep. But I find it very easy on a Sunday to put an hour in the calendar on Wed morning to work on a proposal, and then push it Wed morning for other things. If I’m only accountable to me and i know I can do it another time, i find it too easy to avoid it. especially if it is a mundane or uncomfortable task.

Ah, that is not a tool or system issue. That's a personal issue.
The only way around that is to reset your habits. If you are not observing your calendar, what do you observe? What habit could you develop or change that would ensure you are sticking to something?

I love your content, but I hate to say it - you are not getting enough sleep, and you are promoting a lifestyle that deprives people of sleep. From your calendar, I can see you get 7h of sleep if you are lucky, probably something closer to 6 hours a day. This is definitely NOT healthy, will have negative impact on your well being, especially you will see the negative impact as you grow older (higher chances of alzheimers). Also, with less sleep, you simply won't remember and learn as much - we retain information in our sleep.
This is totally something I struggle with too. Exercising, learning, work and family time is sometimes impossible to all fit in one day, and I think we should accept it and just get a healthy amount of sleep. More on that topic, a read I highly recommend - Why we sleep by Matthew Walker. In short, we do need 8 hours of sleep a day.
To not sound to harsh - I do appreciate your content, as you are both productivity and well-being centered, and you are show an amazing alternative to the "grind" mindset :) Thank you for you content

Hi Jakub, thank you for your concern. A couple of years ago, I did the test suggested by Matthew Walker to determine how much sleep I generally needed and it turned out to be 6 hours 20 mins. Most days I will get more than that and when I don’t I will usually supplement my sleep with a short nap (as suggested by Dr Matthew Huberman).
Because of the time zone I live in and where my customers and clients are located, I split my day. I rest in the afternoons (using them as most people use the evenings) and do my work in the mornings and early evenings. That’s helps me to maintain a relatively balanced day.)
Mu apologies if it sometimes appears I subscribe to the “hustle culture”. I don’t. I’m not that strong.

Carl, as always love the distinctions you make for us - the are empowering. Speaking of distinctions, didn't you recently say that events should go on calendars and tasks on task managers? It seems that you might be going against your own advice when you say to put things on your calendar that are non-negotiable. Could you clarify?

    • @Carl_Pullein

My criteria is if a 'task' needs to be done at a specific time on a given day, it will go on my calendar. However, that said, I may only have one or two of those types of tasks per year.
My tasks can generally be completed at any time in the day.
