    Its heartwarming to see this video not only for us, but also for her children and grandchildren to look back on how to make an important traditional dish that connects family together in Tet holiday.

      My thoughts exactly. As much as I dislike technology sometimes, I actually think it has the ability to preserve cultures and stories that previously had to be passed down orally

    This is such a labor of love. I am Cambodian and we make this as well. One year, I woke up at 2am to help my mother in law make a huge batch of these but different varieties (pork, banana, and coconut+mung beans). It was for the temple celebrating our version of day of the dead. My MIL expected me to go and get blessed but girl, I done went back to bed after 10 hours of this. Sleep was my blessing 😂

    Had no idea this took so much effort to make, I’m impressed by the whole banana leaf section of this recipe. Thanks for sharing this traditional recipe with us! Looking forward to part two!

    My family is from Hong Kong we have something similar called Zongzi made up of glutinous rice, mung beans, and we enjoyed meat, pork, chinese sausage and egg yolk fillings, wrapped in bamboo leaves in a cone shape. My grandmother is the one that always make it and over the years me and my siblings start to learn how to make it.

      In my country it is called bakchang.. similar one i think.. the simplest one here is sticky rice with ground meat filling. Can be pork or chicken for those who cant eat pork.

    Thank you for sharing these recipes. I always wanted to learn how to make Vietnamese food from my mom, but she passed away before we had the chance to really reconcile. Vietnamese food always reminds me of her and the way food was how she showed her love for her family. Thank you, always.

    Hi they young lady, I don't suppose you have a fool proof way of making rice noodles, the ones that you do like crepes but then can slice however thick or thin you want. I tried to make some for a Pho I made the other day and I failed.

      There is two different versions (at least from what I know of) - bánh chưng and bánh Tết. Bánh chưng is square and more eaten in the North of Vietnam and bánh Tết is cylindrical and more common in Central and Southern Vietnam. Same ingredients, just different name and shape.

  • @drift4647
    @drift4647 8 місяців тому

    I didn’t get where why it’s made into a square instead of typical cylinder shape?
