I love this video. "Hey Kovalev, you take too long of shifts, it's not good, i'm going to teach you a lesson" Kovalev forced to play 5 minutes without changing, draws 2 penalties and scores a goal... "You were saying coach?"
Bill Sandiego mike richter was one of em brodeur and Roy were good by playing that style in an era with not a lot of superstars like in the 80s or early 90s
I know this was meant as a punishment by Keenan, but that's one of the greatest shifts of all time. He drew two penalties, made some nice plays with the puck in the neutral zone, perfect on faceoffs and topped it off with a beautiful goal.
the point is that in ice hockey people never stay on the ice for this long, skating is like sprinting, your legs "die" after minute or less...attacking players usually play around 20minutes per 60 minute game, but there are 4 lines and they constantly change...
It has its pros and cons. Now players jut go ard head hunting not caring about other players. The NHL could solve this problem by removing the instigator rule.
We don't see the part when he wanted to get on the bench, but his teammates prevent him to do this, because coach Keenan wanted to punish his habit of playing long shifts,

I always thought that as well but upon reflecting it, its possible he may have done that on purpose to try to force the coach to give Kovalev a break since Kovy doesn't normally play PK.
@@jumpyg1258 I agree with this interpretation. It could just be a bad penalty, but when Kovy scored the goal you can see the teammates were really embracing him. No one looked like they were on Keenan's side there. Captain Mess might have been trying to help the kid out.
Well, that punishment failed.. most players would love to he on the ice for 5 min, get 2 penalties called on the other team and scored on a Clapper. Who looks like the fool now Mike..

Why did Mark Messier go directly to the locker room when he got a hooking penalty with 14 seconds left in the second period? Since it was only a two minute minor penalty, there was the possibility that the penalty could have automatically ended if the Bruins would have scored a quick power play goal before the end of the second period.
