Those two singers were meant for each other....so much soul in their voices. There is a sad ending in Donny's life yet his music lives on. Thank you for playing.
Beautiful song by two amazingly talented singers: so sorry that the song ended prematurely. I am so happy that you have discovered Donnie; he had a truly magical voice.
Magical duo!! Roberta's voice is like velvet. Check out them on Where is the Love ... my favorite. Donny was such a tormented genius. Such a tragic life. Thank you for sharing!!
Listen to them do " Where is the Love"...bliss!...Also react to Roberta Flack's "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"...if you haven't already. IMO ,the most beautiful love song ever written...as performed by her.
I absolutely loved your smile at the beginning of this video. It said “we are going on an incredible journey!” And we did. This a beautiful example of loving music, intimate moments, and soul searching lyrics. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
Recommended Donny Hathaway: "FOR ALL WE KNOW" (a cover of a popular 1934 hit); "I LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU'LL EVER KNOW"; "A SONG FOR YOU" (The Leon Russell classic also a hit for The Carpenters); "THIS CHRISTMAS"; "THE GHETTO Part 1"; "WE NEED YOU RIGHT NOW LORD"; "SOMEDAY WE'LL ALL BE FREE"; All of his duet recordings with Roberta Flack including "BACK TOGETHER AGAIN" and "WHERE IS THE LOVE", a major pop hit of the 70's. Donny also sang the memorable opening theme song of the 1970's sitcom, "MAUDE" (Starring Bea Arthur).
Love this song and also Robertas “ The first time ever I saw your face.” It will make you tremble it’s so beautiful- I always thought what a beautiful bride-groom wedding song it would be, in my opinion! 💞❤️✨
Thank you so much for your input, it means a lot! This song strikes a nerve every time I hear it. It is about falling in love and yes, they both great voices! This type of music soothes and relaxes the human soul on every level, and you only make that experience all the more pleasurable. So thank you so much for sharing and God bless you!
One of the most romantic songs ever, and performed with love and conviction by Roberta and Donnie. Even after all of these years, it feels like the first time when I hear it. Such simple but powerful lyrics. Everyone dreams of a relationship like this,. It was nice to hear the lyrics read after the song so that people could really appreciate them, line by line. This song will always stand the test of time.
This song remembers me my youth, I was 15 and surroundded by good music(easy, three times a lady and still by The Commodores, Ready to take a chance again Barry Manilow and so many others) and I was happy, a big hit in Brazil.
Beautiful ballad, 1978.This was a killer in house parties in Trinidad & Tobago, they sang another song entitled Where Is The Love.Donny Hathaway left us too soon.
What a BEAUTIFUL song. I always loved this, and thought this collaboration was perfect. Donny Hathaway died WAY too young. I’m only familiar with this original version.
classic R & B in it's purest form. donny hathaway had a wonderful voice but i think his greatest contribution was writing, composing, and producing...a musical genius
Sincerely KSO You are the best , you play the best music. This is a classic , by two of the most talented artists in music history. The vocals on this song are absolutely the best!❤
They were an incredible team when they collaborated. Where is the Love was first, written by amazing percussionist, Ralph MacDonald, & as I remember attained popular radio airplay, meaning white folk enjoyed it too.😆. ‘Closer I Get’ was more of an r&b hit, though I’m sure some pop radio stations played it. They teamed up again like late 1970’s, with the album release, Back Together Again. You would love that song no doubt, & another from that album called, You Are My Heaven. That later success may be what made his tragic suicidal ending more painful. Apparently there had been some inner torment for years. As far as other songs by Donnie, I would say 2 are legendary: This Christmas, which has been covered by countless other artists including, Chris Brown & Christina Aguilera; & Someday We’ll All Be Free, which is practically like an anthem to any who have had to struggle as a people. Aretha also sang it as the finale of the Malcolm X movie. You should also hear his daughter Lalah Hathaway, do her song, Something, & then hear how she did it with the instrumental music group, Snarky Puppy.
One fine morning, by Lighthouse and Where is the Love, Donnie n Roberta, an my wife's favorite song The first time I saw your face. Everything about that song is perfect
Such a great song, so smooth. Please react to Smokey Robinson and Daryl Hall Sara Smile/ooh baby baby, live from daryls house. Thanks so much 🙏 💓 luv your reactions ❤ 💖.
I watched a documentary on Donny Hathaway once and Quincy Jones told the interviewer that he’s only known 4 musical geniuses and Donny was one of them. I just love that❤️
Greetings Beautiful Sincerely It is always a pleasure to see your Gorgeous face, and the reactions to the Songs that play.Check out another Beautiful Song:"All I ever Need",a Song by Johnny Mathis.Keep playing these Songs,my Beautiful Lady, and have a Blessed Day.
Love 💕 Roberta Flack she made so many beautiful songs 1 of my most favorite songs of her is First time I ever saw your face ,killing me softly,I feel like making love.
You should listen to Beyonce & Luther Vandross's Version. Just as Beautiful. Another song she did in the early days of her Career was "Killing Me Softly" later covered by The Fugees. She also did an amazing Cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" by The Shirelles, then "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" later done by Leona Lewis.
Also Donny Hathaway and Minnie Riperton (Maya Rudolph's Mother) were Two amazing singers who died too early before they could achieve real fame. Donny also did the Theme to "Maude" a Spinoff of All In The Family.
If you notice, they sing separate versies and never sing each others verse or with each other except sort of at the very end.. Donny Hathaway had aome really great hits.. You might want to look him up some more, KSO..
Donnie Hathaway had a tragic ending in 1979, not long after this song was released, but he made some great music. His best performance in my opinion was "A Song For You", a Leon Russell song which has been covered by many artists.
You must check out Someday We'll Be Free with Donny Hathaway trust me you will love it immediately it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written and recorded!!
Try Alanis Morissette she is from Ottawa Ontario Canada and started in 1991 as a "Pop Dance Singer" Try these songs for something different, -TOO HOT -WALK AWAY -FEEL YOUR LOVE -PLASTIC -AN EMOTION AWAY -NO APOLOGIES..... She was then just listed as (Alanis) Only, she did not use her last name. (There are official videos for all of these songs listed here). Her first two albums were released only in Canada before she switch to "Alternative Rock" and became internationally known throughout the U.S. as well. When she came out with her "Jagged Little Pill" album her first two Pop albums were pulled from the store shelves and are very hard to find now. She does not anymore perform any of the songs from these first two albums. Alanis was in the 1993 film "Anything for Love" direct-to-video teen comedy film starring Corey Haim and Nicole Eggert. It was aired on television in the United States as "Just One of the Girls". Alanis is uncredited in the movie her song "Feel Your Love" can be heard near the end of the movie, when she and Corey Haim perform the song in concert at school. Ms. Flack - a hit-maker and one of the great songstresses of all time - is SO underappreciated.

Funny you say that about his voice. So many singers will tell you that they studied and modeled themselves on Donnie...
Lol that's true I studied him and Stevie Wonder, Charlie Wilson and a few other power male vocalists. As a vocalists I was moulded by them
I haven't heard the Beyonce version but this one is aces.
They both did alums together ( Back together Again ) was one of their biggest pop /R&B successes , I suggest you check them out K S O
