This is one of my go to channels, but I’m looking for accurate well done videos on modeling👍
Thanks 👍
great video. and camera nice n steady. Thank you.I find if I press onto the decal with a clean hanky material this leaves a cloth type effect on the decal and removes any troublesome bubbles.eg Pull the hankie over your thumb and roll it over the decal. best wishes.
Thanks BJ i just learnt something new in applying the adhesive first then decal over the top, i will be giving it a go over the weekend
Thank you for the feedback and let us know it goes and if you need any more info!
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne I gave the tamiya decal adhesive a go then mark fit strong a go on my honda and it worked well still perfecting the application though i'm currently building 4 x subaru's at once but need to paint the window rubbers first, i will keep you updated.
Also i heard Tamiya mark fit (strong) damages paint, any idea on how to avoid this. Also would the normal tamiya mark fit soften the decal enough to curve around a 90 degree edge or less. e.g - a motorcycle seat
I am not familiar with Mark Fit Strong so cannot comment on how it reacts to paint. Any decal softener will help decals contour around extreme shapes. If the decal is thick you will need to apply extra applications of Mark Fit or consider a stronger liquid.
Ok, Many thanks for the reply
is this the same process if your applying wet decals on a painted part? Awesome video!!
Yes it is!
Does the "softener" remove the harsh edges of the decal giving it a more painted on look/effect?
Yes it does reduce a little bit but wont remove it in full. Once you put the clear on top it does reduces further. Thanks
Hi, I would like to ask. Does the Mark softer still work on decal after 24 hours?
Yes, Mark softer will work on dry decals. You may need to prick through the decal with a knife or pin to allow the liquid to soak to the back.
Hi, im currently working on a Tamiya Honda VFR750R model kit and i bought a tamiya mark fit (normal) solution bottle for the decals, should I Paint then Clear coat then apply mark fit and then apply decal then apply mark fit over it. please Note that the mark fit solution is normal and not the strong formula
Thank you for your question. The process for decals is paint the surface, apply decal adhesive promoter (Mr Mark Setter), apply the decal, apply decal softener (Mark Fit), apply clear paint after the decal has dried. Without the decal adhesive promoter leave the step out. Usually Mark Fit is applied over the decal. If you are confident, Mark Fit under the decal will help a decal contour to extreme surfaces such as into panel line and over raised rivets.
I do not use a decal adhesive promoter as i don’t have one, ahould i just paint the surface of the model then apply the decal then apply mark fit over it then finally clear coat with X-22
Yes, that process will work.
do you apply top coat after the decals dry? everyone says you should ...i don't
Yes, I usually do. The clear seals the decal, making it more robust, eliminates the chances of the decal peeling up, and gives a uniform appearance that matches the rest of the painted finish. You need to practice with top coats as some hot clears (ie lacquer) can attack decals. The general rule is to apply many thin coats over the decal, allowing full drying time between coats.
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne thank you sir!
Thanks for the video, its pretty confusing to be honest, everyone has a different technique for this and all just seems like anyone you ask has a different method xD
Yes, there are many different ways to install the water slide decals! Pick the one that works best for you.
Which brand did you prefer ?
I have been using GSI Mr Mark Setter and Mr Mark Softer for years as it has always worked for me with my projects. I think all of the different brands work in a similar fashion. They will differ in how long they take to react and how strong the softening effect is. Cheers!
I have no idea why bubbles eg became a link?
