Not at all, lol. I’ve been a “beer nerd” the better part of 2 decades while serving in the military. Never struggled with belly fat or fat at all because of my consistency in the gym. When I met my wife, she was always baffled at my pizza and beer consumption despite my small size (5’7” 165-171lbs and muscular). However, I must admit that staring at 40 in 90 days has pushed me far closer to 171 and above than just barely hitting 160 10 years ago. I went alcohol free and keto for a week and dropped 17 lbs. I’ve never been without abs, but seeing the number difference on the scale and the definition in my obliques made me realize that beer might have to be pushed to a weekend only activity, lol. I’m still ready to let it go entirely, though🤷🏾♂️
Age 42, never had alcohol or cigarettes in my life. I saw it destroy lots of family members in my youth and friends as I aged. Prayers for those wanting to be free from these poisons.
The people you do alcohol and cigs with; the only time you have a good time with them is when your paying at a restaurant. If you missed out on that tough lesson; I submit to you - you didn't miss anything good. Congratulations on the good life choices.
And I hope you do realize you missed out on a lot of learning about yourself on the other hand. I hope you have managed to let go of control in some other way and that this fixation with being the most grown up around does not come from something someoneelse made you become.
It's smart and self-protective to avoid destructive substances. A person doesn't miss out on an opportunity for growth and learning, by opting out of self-harm in the first place. That would be like saying a law-abiding person missed out on growth and learning they would have gotten if they had been a criminal and then reformed... sheer lunacy.

This is spot on. A few years back, my wife tried to go Keto and could not lose weight. I told her it had to be all the wine she was drinking. Fast forward to today, she quit drinking cold turkey a year ago and recently tried Keto again. In 2.5 months, she's down 20 pounds. None of this surprises me. Berg has it right.
@@juliatugyi8285 Probably because you eat too much and don't get enough exercise. Even if you eat clean foods, you'll still be fat if you eat too much of it and don't burn it off through activity. Alcohol and carbs just exacerbate things.
Former alcoholic here. The best thing I ever did was stop drinking 8 years ago. It not only impacted my physical health, but my mental health. It's especially hard to stop drinking in Australia where it seems that no social event is complete without alcohol - and any excuse for a drink will do. Here, people are expected to drink. Which is why I'm proud that I've stayed alcohol free for so long now. I don't miss it at all and I feel so much better - physically and mentally. 😃
Been over THIRTY years for me and I still can't believe I was that taken over by it. I will tell anyone that quitting CAN be done as I am proof. Now it seems impossible to even think of gulping more poison. Congrats to you, stargazer, and anyone else who has overcome that path.
I have been an alcoholic for about 12 years, and recently stopped. Still fighting cravings, and came across this video at the perfect time. A great reminder why I needed to stop and STAY stopped.
My only complaint with losing all this weight, and getting toned is the money I've spent on a whole new wardrobe. 36 waist to 32/31. Fitted button downs, new shoes, etc. Walking on air is empowering. Thank you, DR.
Well, I was born in Italy in a farm family. My parents produced their own wine and enjoy it till the last day of their life (both well over 90 years old). Moderation, life-style, healthy diet, and low stress rate make the real difference. I have never seen my parents carrying any sign of overgrown belly. However, I yet wish to thank you for your extremely helpful videos that I and will certainly keep watching.
Yes, exactly, moderation ; a little red wine is good for the body. I can also attest to what you say about family shape. The Mediterranean diet, even an impoverished one as my Italian great grandmother had, is probably better than what most people eat today here in UK. In Italy, everything fresh, locally sourced , making own breads & pasta, fish treated as rare delicacy. Love the open markets they have. So glad I met my great Nonna back in 1975 ~ she was 101years old then & lived to be 103. Bless her 🙏🏻 Even though I don't drink alcohol, have muesli/fruit breakfast & 1 meal a day, I'm starting to have the "middle problem" the Doctor talks of. I feel I'm letting the family side down! Wish I lived in Italy now, I found it so inspiring ; the Sunshine & relaxed way of life, less stress & good old fashioned family values. My heart is still there. Best wishes 🙂
I think the key phrase in your post is “they produced their own wine”. My mother used to make her own wine and it was wonderful. What they call wine sold here is a chemical brew mass produced. Same with beer and the food.
Exactly. No one ever speaks about the serotonin that a glass of wine will give you that is so good for your body and mind. I’m French currently living in the UK and used to live in the USA. The worst diet/life style is the American one, even when shopping in healthy supermarkets (Whole Foods) and cooking from scratch. There’s sugar added to everything and portions are bigger, including in a Mars bar.
Most likely because they have healthy livers to begin with. It is when the liver isn't functioning optimally, that it will convert the alcohol to fat storage.

Best thing I've ever done was quit drinking. I was a heavy drinker for about 15 years, (about 20oz of whisky EVERY evening, 7 days per week) had my last drink in November last year, so far down 50lbs, which is great, but the real benefit I'm finding is my mental clarity, and how I can deal with stressful situations. I no longer drink to deal with the stress in my life, I deal with the stress head on, fix the stressful situation and move on. Sleeping throughout the night without getting the shakes in the middle of the night is amazing!!!! Honestly, my only regret in quitting drinking, is that I didn't quit years ago, I really wonder where I'd be now if I did quit earlier. I don't miss drinking at all!!!
Thank you so much for all that you do to get us all healthy. I was one of those heavy drinkers, for many years, and developed NAFLD. I started Keto, and had some success. I lost some weight, my BP went down, and my sugar went down. Through this, I was still drinking, in moderation. Once I stopped drinking altogether, now I am noticing subtle changes. My fasting sugars still run about 105-110, but I know it takes time. Today marks 179 days of sobriety, and I am still committed to getting healthy, and staying sober. Thanks for the help!❤
Congratulations!!! I found Dr Berg when my fasting glucose was 148 in January of this year. I got to 5.8 A1C in 16 weeks from that starting point. Who knew?

i drink light beer almost daily and i still lose weight including belly fat while doing keto. i don't know what DR berg is talking about. maybe it's just the individual i don't really know but im proof so you can't refute me. i believe it's HOW MUCH you drink. i drink about on averge 3 cans of light beer like Coors light or Modelo Oro a week. as for wine i drink it occasionally but in very small proportions. im still losing weight INCLUDING belly fat. my stomach is almost flat. i went from 195lbs to currently 172lbs in just 2-3months!!! KETO does work but i also drink light beer so not sure what Dr berg is talking about

More and more studies show their are not any benefits, just detriments of consuming alcohol. It’s a poison, play safely with the body you were given.
I always thought I was being kind to my liver by not drinking and doing drugs. I was actually doing enough damage with the sugar and carbs. Thankfully now I’ve changed my ways. Thanks Dr. Berg!
At 66, I stopped smoking. At 67, I started intermittent fasting and eating better to lose some weight. At 68, I have stopped drinking (probably should have done that 2nd). One day it just hit me that for someone who is obese with mild emphysema, intermittent gout (using Mitigare for flare ups), colitis (using Stelara injections every 8 weeks), and sleep apnea (using Bi-Pap for 8 years), I wasn't doing my part. (Talk about a light bulb going off!) If I wanted to enjoy what years I had left as happy and healthy as I could be, rather than in pain, disease, at Doctor's offices or the hospital, I needed to do my part! I needed to cut out the smoking, drinking and eat better. And any time I am tempted to regress, I think of this. I don't know where the strength is coming from except, I've been praying a lot for help with these three issues. In any event, "someone" is helping me. I may not be able to reverse all the wear and tear on my body and my conditions, but I continue to feel healthier. To better health, one step at a time.

Drank for 25 yrs and stopped about 7 months ago. I couldve never dreamed of how great I feel now. Im getting fitter by the month and Im so happy it hurts! No anxiety and depression, just all gone. All of my relationships have become so much better. Its the best thing you will ever do for yourself. I started with taking just one night off and the results were so great I kept going

I've tried everything for over 2 yrs to lose weight. I'm overweight and in my mid 50's with a lot of belly fat. I started intermittent fasting 1 year ago and lost 10lbs within the 1st 6 months then l plateaued and started gaining again. After watching this video, I realized that of all the things I tried, I did not give up my occasional glass of wine a few days a week. My belly area is just so difficult to shrink and my double chin drives me crazy. My diet is healthy, i am very active, i walk a lot but my weight just does not go down. I decided to just stick with intermittent fasting because it is my last hope. I will stop drinking completely now and see if it makes a change. Thank you.
Nearly 8 months completely clean and sober. The most detrimental effect that alcohol had on me was that it made me complacent. Out of that complacency came lethargy, bad diet, and procrastination. Those three things combined kept me from getting under 200lbs. I'm now at a fairly lean 175lbs with little to no diet effort and consistently outside cycling and doing stuff.
@Everyone. If you don’t drink alcohol, it’s not just alcohol which keeps the belly fat on. Your body adapts to your diet or an intermittent fasting regime, etc. The answer is to do carb cycling and vary your eating schedule and yes, exercise (HIIT and weight lifting will provide the best benefits).
I've had a fat stomach and love handles all my life. I don't drink alcohol, milk or sugar sodas. I'm 50 years old, 6'-1" and 290. I lifted for power and strength most of my life until I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now I'm more flab than firm. I call it sturdy fat instead of sloppy fat, HAHA. I started keto about a month ago, so wish me luck.

This information is Truth. I am 7 months sober 🥳, I quit alcohol and diet sodas, then a couple months later started limiting carbs, cut out added sugar, then started intermittent fasting (16:8). I have lost 14 lbs. so far. I think my loss has been gradual because I drank for so many years. Quitting alcohol has been one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made. Alcohol only temporarily helps with anxiety, it makes it worse in the long run. ☮️ Peace be with you all ❤
Dr. Berg, this video is spot on! I have insulin resistance, fatty liver and a high BMI. I've been losing weight, and recently reached a plateau. Over the past few months, I noticed that after every weekend, I showed a 7-10 Lb. weight gain that took all week to get rid of. I go out with friends every weekend, and we have drinks with supper. After watching this video, I know why this is happening. I didn't drink last weekend, and noticed that I didn't gain the 7-10 Lbs. I actually started to see my scale move the other way. Because of this video, it all makes sense. Thank you again!

@@curiouscat3384 I'll explain it for you, the extra weight they gain over the weekend will be water, if i have a lapse and eat carbs its usually over the weekend, i can put 5/7 lbs on easily. That is water, takes about 3 days for it to go

My friend, a police officer who owned a bar, gave up alcohol for lent and lost 22 lbs during those four weeks, so he decided to go a bit further. Six months later, he had lost over 50 lbs. He was one to eat healthy and go to the gym often, was very strong, but overweight and he drank a couple of beers every day. Hearing his story helped me to see that any alcohol was likely to be a problem when trying to lose weight. I gave up my red wine at night, and lost 18 lbs in less than 2 months. Game changer!
I quit drinking years ago, and the sugar cravings skyrocketed like crazy and never stopped. AND sugar is so much more commonplace, accepted, and forced on you at every opportunity -- especially in America, and especially in the South. So sugar, carbs, and alcohol are basically ugly step-triplets that could (in theory) be enjoyed in extreme moderation but will actually ruin your life.

I've drank almost every day for 16 years now.. I'm a pretty slim woman, but the only place I really get chubby is my belly and under my chin... trying hard to stop drinking again recently. Living in Vegas is tough, alcohol here is 24/7 and very widely accepted socially here. People drink on the streets and on city buses even.. its not uncommon to see. It's so easy to obtain, it's also 2$ or less for a beer, obtainable for even the poorest people. All my friends drink too.. not good!!! I want to try AA.. so far I have 10 days sober and I feel GREAT! Gonna try to go as long as I can, guys! This is motivation as well! Great video thanks Dr Berg! 🙂😊
I quit drinking alcohol about 3 and a half years ago. Lockdown enabled me to tackle the first stretch without social pressure, which I felt lucky about at the time. Really the best decision I’ve ever made and I don’t look back. My skin improved, my weight improved, my mental health improved and so did my general approach and feeling towards life and those around me. Recommend it as a life choice for anyone and everyone

My husband used to be a big drinker, but now rarely drinks after I explained that the body sees alcohol as a poison. I've known alcoholics who looked 60 when they were 40, even without the belly. If it's doing that on the outside, imagine what it's doing on the inside.
I haven’t drank alcohol since I started my personalized diet plan 5 months ago, I’ve lost almost 40lbs. Gone from 205 to 165 and I’m still losing weight, gaining muscle, and increasing the amount of food I’ve been eating incrementally as of late.

I was able to lose a lot of weight on keto while drinking on the weekends , but when I completely stopped drinking, I got under 10 % body fat and my waist is only 32.5 inches. I m leanest I’ve ever been. I very much agree with Dr. Berg alcohol is a major road block to weight loss.
Great info and videos. I don’t drink and am a gym rat and runner. I found chronic stress experienced in the last year and cortisol to be a problem for weight gain. While I avoid all sugar and eat Whole Foods, no meat; the effects of chronic stress cannot be overlooked. Great video.
Yes. Work, loss of a loved one as well as as health issues or worry can contribute to chronic anxiety. In turn the body never has an opportunity to recover. Higher levels of cortisol as a result can cause weight gain and also inflammation throughout the body. Workouts, running etc as well as eliminating stressors in your environment can be extremely helpful.

From my personal experience, this fact is IRREFUTABLE. No matter how I gained weight on my body sometimes, I always had a washboard flat stomach -- permanently. I was known for my flat stomach....until, at 37 years old, I started drinking alcohol. I gained 25kg in two years and for the first time in my life, I had a lower belly problem. Last year, I dropped 16 kg in 6 months because I stopped drinking. So many health channels discuss everything under the sun, but they never touch on the devastating effects of alcohol. It is some kind of enigmatic phantom that nobody wants to blame, because most people love a drink or two.
You do know how big the alcohol industry is? The losses from this video might get some companies bankrupt within a year. And sure, it's so much fun (and easy) drinking.

This is me! I eat fairly well and I excersize regularly. I lost 50 pounds but then plateaued and I've been there for the last 3 months. I knew it was the wine and I was drinking a lot. I recently weaned myself off because while I've slimmed down elsewhere, I cannot get rid of this belly so I stopped. Thanks for making this video. I remember the times when I couldn't drink for a month, my stomach started to shrink and I wasn't even working out at those times so the wine is the culprit.
My niece (37) died two weeks ago from her alcoholism. The thing is none of us knew she was an alcoholic. She was extremely high functioning and she was what seemed addicted to exercising. She was very fit. 100 lbs on her 5'4 frame. She never seemed tired and never missed work. Hiked everyday too before work. Then in a blink of an eye she was 20 lbs heavier. It happened so fast. She died from heart failure. The doctor said she was in liver failure but refused help. There was no jaundice. Not even on the day of her death which was like everyday for her, she was up, got herself ready, fixed her hair applied her makeup, did her hike, went to work, came home did her evening workout,. sat down and died. How is that possible??? The only thing that changed quickly was the weight gain.The doctor told her she needed to stop cold turkey, she was on her third day cold turkey. I think this is what killed her. From what I've heard a long time full blown alcoholic cannot go cold turkey. How I wished she'd reached out to me. How I wish I'd known. She was like my daughter. she even called me momma. I rarely ever saw her drinking and when she did, in front of me it was never excessive. As a person who has never touched any kind of alcohol when I see people drinking I pay attention, because I'm usually wondering what do they get out of it. My dad was a drunkard. A very violent one. I'm having a hard time with her loss and I wonder how was I so blind.
So sorry for your loss. Sad to say, that Dr. was wrong in telling an alcoholic to quit cold turkey. This is also how Jerry Garcia passed. It's necessary to slowly detox when the body is overloaded with toxins...May your family find peace in this time. 🙏
When you are an alcoholic, you never stop cold turkey, as it can cause seizures and kill you. Always detox in a hospital!!! They can do things to help you and detox safely.
Sorry to hear that. Two people I personally know died from too much alcohol: my uncle (at 64) and a neighbor (53). They lived normal live to outsiders. No aggressions, no social distancing. My uncle went to the doctor because of a hurting stomach and the doctor told him his liver was failing and he would die in few weeks latest. He went to a store bought several bottles hard alcohol and drank for a last time. That was a month ago.

As always, an exceptional video presented with clarity and packed with useful, science based information. I started doing intermittent fasting and keto prior to the COVID pandemic following your guidelines regarding time restricted eating. My diet has always been pretty healthy but I was carrying around more weight than I wanted. I dropped from 209 pounds at 6'1" to 193 in about 6-8 weeks. Looked better, felt much better, slept better, stopped snoring and had to add some new clothes to my wardrobe. I like wine and was a 2 glass with dinner guy almost every night for years. Not abusive in any way, just liked how it complimented food. I decided to experiment with giving up alcohol for a week. That led to 2, then 3, then a month and it's now been 2 years and 6 months. The weight started to shred off after the third week and I now weigh 174 pounds with body fat content at 15% and have been stable without fluctuation. My waist measurement went from 38" to 33" and I can almost see an ab 6 pack if I look really hard! I've not had my testosterone levels checked (it was low when I was last tested years ago, I'm in my early 70's) but I do know my estrogen levels must be much lower because my man boobs disappeared! 👍👍👍 It's interesting to see the reaction when I run into people I haven't seen in a long time. It usually goes something like "you look great, how did you do that?" I'll often send them your Guide to Intermittent Fasting and Keto. Many have taken my lead and have made some really positive changes, including some Type II diabetics who now have normal labs. And you've added quite a few new subscribers as a result. I don't know how you manage to keep adding so much content so frequently, but thank you for doing what you do.
As a physician of almost 40 years, you are partly correct here. Those that have a NAFL or MFL is a different fat than subcutaneous fat. Most people today have obese belly fat from long term carb and sugar in the diet. The strict keto diet or carnivore diet will help reduce this organ fat and recover the NAFL. If they are drinking ANY alcohol they are not doing keto. It is also important for them to fast 12 hours per day which includes sleep time.
Would really love a video explaining this advice. It really seems to be a game changer for people that can't get rid of that fat even though they don't drink alcohol.

💯 my problem. Social drinking with my husband is what kills me. He loves to drink and I tag along and it’s so awkward asking for water or a pop. Everyone thinks I’m pregnant or brings up WHY aren’t you drinking. Ugh. I’ve been lowering my alcohol intake and have lost nearly 20lbs. Would like to eliminate it almost complete 🎉
Make up some excuse like tolerance problems… or a 90 day challenge. I would do kombucha but the residual sugar in the commercial products is still excessive. Been making my own ‘sprite’ with just club soda and fresh squeezed lemon and lime

I was a fit guy who drank a bit too much beer. I then decided I’d had enough and dropped the drinking. I didn’t do any more training than I already was yet dropped 20 pounds over six months. The result in terms of belly fat loss was amazing. I have a flatter stomach in my late forties than I had for years despite training regularly. It was a very noticeable transformation.
Wow, this is a surprise and luckily I don't drink wine or much alcohol. I've lost 24kg's to reach my target weight in under 5 months and very happy with my weight and health.

I think your sample size is way too short to be making conclusions. I would imagine you need a few months of consistent behavior before you can start making conclusions about health and weight loss. Water weight can fluctuate daily/weekly. Good luck to you.
Beer is particularly high in calories. I have no problem losing weight when I switch to vodka soda. Not the most flavourful thing, but it works. It’s only 50 cal to an ounce and there are no carbs in there. You’re right, you won’t lose weight drinking beer. It’s not the alcohol that’s the problem, it’s the calories.
I quit alcohol, kept my terrible diet and lost 10 pounds in a month and a half. I’ve been sober for 3 and a half months now and the cravings still occasionally pop up, but I feel so much better now. I’m now trying to improve my overall diet.
I would like to mention after watching your weight loss videos, specifically intermittent fasting, I've been able to shed 40 pounds and maintain a wight between 127-134 and lead a healthier lifestyle that includes calisthenic workouts. Thanks a ton!

Why would you want to be a vegan? That's just asking for health problems down the road. You're missing out on tons of essential nutrients. Carnivore is your best bet for dealing with diabetes and keeping weight off

I'm not Dr. Berg, but as a prior vegan, can tell you that for ME, it just didn't work and I actually damaged my liver extensively because of it. (Ended up with NASH) I've never felt as good as I do now on Ketovore/Carnivore, and I'm losing weight and healing! If you're vegan for moral reasons, I understand, but if you're vegan for health, I want to encourage you to continue to watch Dr. Berg's videos as he goes into why Veganism is NOT healthy. I never intended to ditch alcohol but it just happened after a few years on keto 😂 the funny part that here in Mediterranean a good wine is considered a part of life so I thought that social gatherings would be a problem… it turns out nobody cares what you drink as long as everyone is happy and enjoying themselves

Great video. Need to follow this one with one explaining that High Fructose Corn Syrup is even harder for the liver to process than alcohol, without the buzz from alcohol. So, if one doesn't drink alcohol, their fatty liver is probably from the High Fructose Corn Syrup in their soft drinks. Love you Dr Berg. While watching this video, I was trying to work my way around everything that Dr. Berg kept bringing up to allow myself to keep drinking. Got to the part where he said even if you only drink once every 3 days or so and that was strike 3... It is clear, that my muffin top is not going away without dropping the alcohol habit. I love my organic kale shake shake. I add nutritional yeast lemon sometimes with a little zest cinnamon sometimes a little vanilla extract coconut oil tbl spoon turmeric nutmeg white pepper ginger fill to the top with distilled water. Oh yeah and a dash of sea salt. This greatly fills me for practically all day and takes away my cravings. Loaded with so needed potassium too. Thank you Dr Berg you first introduced me to the kale shake when I began my healthy keto journey 4 years ago. Now I have all the tools I need. If I get lazy or over confident in what I eat, it's on me. My weight has yet to go over 120 and I'm a 62 5 ft 4 woman. My lowest weight since I began was 92 lbs. To low and I was very weak.

As ex heavy drinker, i totally agree. Get rid of alcohol. I drank bottle or more strong alcohol every evening for 4 years. Now i have been sober for year and half and i am happy. I didn't quit it myself, though, i was "coded" I'm planning to start some diet to lose my belly fat and maybe some other issues with my nerves. My right shoulder and back are very painful sometimes. Your videos helped me so much in my weight loss journey. I have lost 65 pounds and I'm still going hard. I was 213 pounds and i am 148 now. 52 of which i lost with your recommendation. I would also like to add, i am a 33 year old alcoholic who has been drinking for 13 years and is well educated. I went from lagers, ipas, wine to whiskey. Whiskey is the one i am currently using, i no longer have belly fat and drink. However i personally feel that if i didn't drink my journey would have not taken me 8 months to complete. Now, i have found that with Dr. Bergs research, i was able to experiment with how an alcoholic can drink while following the keto diet. Milk thistle, vitamin B, and diluting the water is my secret, two of which berge had recommended until this video. Yes, dilute with water. I use to use sparkling but it got to expensive. Good day to everyone who also can't stop drinking like me.
Thank you so much, Dr Eric. Another of your videos that I will return to on a regular basis to reinforce my giving up alcohol. I've dieted and worked out in the past, lost weight, got reasonably ripped in the chest, arms and legs, but always puzzled why it had less effect on my belly fat. I realised it was my alcohol intake by accident when I went on a keto diet. I stopped alcohol completely on keto, not because I knew anything about what's in your video, but because I knew if I drank carb free alcohol, I would get the munchies and eat a load of carbs. After a couple of months on keto and without going to the gym (although I enjoy running for 3-4 miles several times a week) I noticed a big reduction in my belly fat. 4 months on keto so far and at the age of 67, my belly fat has as good as vanished. Until your video, I just presumed I would go back to hitting the booze once I reached my preferred weight or when I went on vacation, but that won't happen now. My life with alcohol is over forever. Thank you for another great explanation Dr. Berg! 4 years keto brought me to slender/fit but I still had a little belly pouch. Was drinking wine at night to help me fall asleep and be "refreshed" for work in the morning. (lol It doesn't work.) Since quitting alcohol (and excessive cheese and nuts) 3 months ago I finally lost the pouch. How about doing a video on cooking methods to reduce dietary AGE's? Read a study about marinating meat in lemon juice then cooking with low moist heat. I think I understand but your opinion is appreciated (plus things are easier to comprehend the calm way you explain them.)
I'm so glad that I never drank any alcohol growing up in high school or as an adult. I personally hate the thing with every fiber of my being, and that's mostly due to the fact that I HATE how people are while they're under the influence of it. also doesn't help that its one of the most toxic legal drugs out there. I already have my own issues and can have an addictive personality or behavior towards certain things like food , TV, video games , my phone, ect. The last thing I want or need in my life is another thing controlling my life. No thank you ! I've gone this long without it. And I've done fine.
I really have never understood the appeal of alcohol. I used to drink socially. I hated the taste. And getting drunk always felt like I was intentionally making myself mentally disabled. It makes so much sense when you say our body, specifically our liver, treats alcohol as poison. I recently went on a keto diet and my belly fat came off almost instantly because I no longer drink. Not an alcoholic, but I recently went to a yoga retreat for a week and there was no alcohol. Pants didn’t fit anymore after 7 days. So I agree with you. I don’t think you need to quit completely, but going a week without seems very effective at losing belly fat.
Obviously you know your body better than anyone else but I would attribute this more to partaking in yoga over cutting down on alcohol. I haven't had a drop of alcohol for 7 months now and was never a big drinker to begin with, but still have belly fat (I'm skinny-fat as well, never been a big guy). I have very little sugar either, and don't eat any refined carbs.
You probably also ate healthier, didn't have your normal stressors to keep your cortisol levels elevated, and holding yoga poses that rely on 'core' stabilizer muscles that depend on triglycerides (aka fat) for fuel. All of that contributed to your weight loss.
I stopped eating rice and bread and now only eat chicken, beef, fruits, and vegetables. As a result, my round belly fat disappeared, going from 90 to 75 in less than two months. Additionally, I engage in simple 30-minute exercises every other day.
I’ve been alcohol free for nearly 15 years and its the best thing I ever did!! All you say is true. The alcohol tore apart my gut causing leaky-gut. The damage it causes is so hard to recover from!
I quit alcohol (wine) in early May of this year. Mainly because I suspected it was a major trigger to my Rosacea and I was tired of having flares and inflamed skin. I suspected it was my liver not having it any longer. Anyway I noticed that my anxiety and depression was almost non existent. I slept so much better and my skin has 90% cleared up! I also do intermittent fasting. My diet Not quite Keto but I cleaned it up quite a bit, moderate low carb and no processed sugars. I feel great and I have pretty good energy too throughout the day. My gut issues also vanished. The mental clarity is amazing. I am taking no alcohol way of life day by day. We'll see how far I go. Kombucha tea is also a great alternative.
By far this was the one advice that made the largest impact on my life and I'm 50 years old. I tried everything to lose my belly fat. I was on TRT, doing 150 minutes of cardio a week, working out 6 days a week, and I tried the keto and carnivore diet. Once I gave up drinking, I lost all that body fat. I've been sober now for 3 weeks and I'm eating carbs and my midsection is flat. I was drinking three times a week. Sometimes four or five. I read somewhere online that if you drink every other day, your liver will repair. According to this video, it takes 3-4 days for the liver to recover. That means even drinking twice a week will put a kibosh on your diet. As alcoholics, we don't want to admit drinking is the problem. We'll try everything except quitting drinking. I'm telling you, if you have this problem, you have to make a decision. In your 20's, it didn't matter. When you get to your mid-thirty's or older, your body isn't the same. Do you want to drink and have a belly? It's summer, I want to look good!
I don’t drink alcohol. But I’m stopping the diet sodas. I’ve already quit the low carb energy drinks. Figure worth a shot because I’m working out more lately and I can’t budge the scale. Also, drinking these things could be an easy and fast way to Jack your system up.
I quit diet sodas in December, a habit I’ve had for almost 40 years. Not only do I have more money for real food, but with IF, I’ve been losing about a pound a week and I’m not even exercising. You can do it! 👍🏻

After university when I picked up the habit and gained weight I thought maybe I should start drinking the diet stuff instead - never could bring myself to do it. I wish I had stopped entirely back then but happy I finally reached the point now where I have absolutely no desire to pick up a can and drink it. The last 5 years were off-again-on-again. Not anymore. For some people it is as addictive as alcohol.
0 calorie sodas are fine if you don’t drink them all the time and definitely not during fasting. I’ve been losing weight consistently every week and I’m down to 12% body fat.
I stopped drinking after years. I can proudly say i havent had a single drink this year and everything is just better. It is so weird that alcohol is still being pushed by companies and in TV. Cigarettes vanished from TV and it is time to do so with alcohol. Today it is still you that are weird if you are NOT drinking. Anyway sorry for the rant. TLDR stopped drinking, working out and loosing fat succesfully.

Totally agree with this. Last year I went on keto with some fasting, and stopped drinking for 6 monhts. Lost a bunch of weight, felt great, my beer gut was pretty much gone (not 100% but would be gone had i continued). This year, went back on keto with some fasting, but had some low carb beers once in a while. Not seeing the same results in terms of my gut. Need to eliminate alcohol to see the best results. Plus alcohol has so many other bad effects for me such as hampering sleeping, spiking rest heart rate, etc.

Not at all, lol. I’ve been a “beer nerd” the better part of 2 decades while serving in the military. Never struggled with belly fat or fat at all because of my consistency in the gym. When I met my wife, she was always baffled at my pizza and beer consumption despite my small size (5’7” 165-171lbs and muscular). However, I must admit that staring at 40 in 90 days has pushed me far closer to 171 and above than just barely hitting 160 10 years ago. I went alcohol free and keto for a week and dropped 17 lbs. I’ve never been without abs, but seeing the number difference on the scale and the definition in my obliques made me realize that beer might have to be pushed to a weekend only activity, lol. I’m still ready to let it go entirely, though🤷🏾♂️

This is spot on. A few years back, my wife tried to go Keto and could not lose weight. I told her it had to be all the wine she was drinking. Fast forward to today, she quit drinking cold turkey a year ago and recently tried Keto again. In 2.5 months, she's down 20 pounds.

@@juliatugyi8285 Probably because you eat too much and don't get enough exercise. Even if you eat clean foods, you'll still be fat if you eat too much of it and don't burn it off through activity. Alcohol and carbs just exacerbate things.

Former alcoholic here. The best thing I ever did was stop drinking 8 years ago. It not only impacted my physical health, but my mental health. It's especially hard to stop drinking in Australia where it seems that no social event is complete without alcohol - and any excuse for a drink will do. Here, people are expected to drink. Which is why I'm proud that I've stayed alcohol free for so long now. I don't miss it at all and I feel so much better - physically and mentally. 😃

Well, I was born in Italy in a farm family. My parents produced their own wine and enjoy it till the last day of their life (both well over 90 years old). Moderation, life-style, healthy diet, and low stress rate make the real difference. I have never seen my parents carrying any sign of overgrown belly. However, I yet wish to thank you for your extremely helpful videos that I and will certainly keep watching.

I think the key phrase in your post is “they produced their own wine”. My mother used to make her own wine and it was wonderful. What they call wine sold here is a chemical brew mass produced. Same with beer and the food.

I’m French currently living in the UK and used to live in the USA. The worst diet/life style is the American one, even when shopping in healthy supermarkets (Whole Foods) and cooking from scratch. There’s sugar added to everything and portions are bigger, including in a Mars bar.
Most likely because they have healthy livers to begin with. It is when the liver isn't functioning optimally, that it will convert the alcohol to fat storage.

Yes! Quitting alcohol has been one of the biggest factors in my body transformation. Not to mention my marriage, relationship with my kids and relationships with other people has become 100% better!
As a 68-year-old female, there are not enough happy face emojis to express my joy of being alcohol-free. I still have a pouch in my belly but no joint inflammation and my brain is so clear. Best thing I EVER did - mentally, physically and spiritually.

Best thing I've ever done was quit drinking. I was a heavy drinker for about 15 years, (about 20oz of whisky EVERY evening, 7 days per week) had my last drink in November last year, so far down 50lbs, which is great, but the real benefit I'm finding is my mental clarity, and how I can deal with stressful situations. I no longer drink to deal with the stress in my life, I deal with the stress head on, fix the stressful situation and move on. Sleeping throughout the night without getting the shakes in the middle of the night is amazing!!!! Honestly, my only regret in quitting drinking, is that I didn't quit years ago, I really wonder where I'd be now if I did quit earlier. I don't miss drinking at all!!!

Thank you so much for all that you do to get us all healthy. I was one of those heavy drinkers, for many years, and developed NAFLD. I started Keto, and had some success. I lost some weight, my BP went down, and my sugar went down. Through this, I was still drinking, in moderation. Once I stopped drinking altogether, now I am noticing subtle changes. My fasting sugars still run about 105-110, but I know it takes time. Today marks 179 days of sobriety, and I am still committed to getting healthy, and staying sober. Thanks for the help!❤

I found that carb cravings and alcohol cravings are just about identical. Quitting carbs made it so much easier to quit alcohol.

i drink light beer almost daily and i still lose weight including belly fat while doing keto. i don't know what DR berg is talking about. maybe it's just the individual i don't really know but im proof so you can't refute me. i believe it's HOW MUCH you drink. i drink about on averge 3 cans of light beer like Coors light or Modelo Oro a week. as for wine i drink it occasionally but in very small proportions. im still losing weight INCLUDING belly fat. my stomach is almost flat. i went from 195lbs to currently 172lbs in just 2-3months!!! KETO does work but i also drink light beer so not sure what Dr berg is talking about

More and more studies show their are not any benefits, just detriments of consuming alcohol. It’s a poison, play safely with the body you were given.
I always thought I was being kind to my liver by not drinking and doing drugs. I was actually doing enough damage with the sugar and carbs. Thankfully now I’ve changed my ways. Thanks Dr. Berg!
At 66, I stopped smoking. At 67, I started intermittent fasting and eating better to lose some weight. At 68, I have stopped drinking (probably should have done that 2nd). One day it just hit me that for someone who is obese with mild emphysema, intermittent gout (using Mitigare for flare ups), colitis (using Stelara injections every 8 weeks), and sleep apnea (using Bi-Pap for 8 years), I wasn't doing my part. (Talk about a light bulb going off!) If I wanted to enjoy what years I had left as happy and healthy as I could be, rather than in pain, disease, at Doctor's offices or the hospital, I needed to do my part! I needed to cut out the smoking, drinking and eat better. And any time I am tempted to regress, I think of this. I don't know where the strength is coming from except, I've been praying a lot for help with these three issues. In any event, "someone" is helping me. Drank for 25 yrs and stopped about 7 months ago. I couldve never dreamed of how great I feel now. Im getting fitter by the month and Im so happy it hurts! No anxiety and depression, just all gone. All of my relationships have become so much better. Its the best thing you will ever do for yourself. I started with taking just one night off and the results were so great I kept going

I've tried everything for over 2 yrs to lose weight. I'm overweight and in my mid 50's with a lot of belly fat. I started intermittent fasting 1 year ago and lost 10lbs within the 1st 6 months then l plateaued and started gaining again. After watching this video, I realized that of all the things I tried, I did not give up my occasional glass of wine a few days a week. My belly area is just so difficult to shrink and my double chin drives me crazy. My diet is healthy, i am very active, i walk a lot but my weight just does not go down. I decided to just stick with intermittent fasting because it is my last hope. I will stop drinking completely now and see if it makes a change. Thank you.
Nearly 8 months completely clean and sober. The most detrimental effect that alcohol had on me was that it made me complacent. Out of that complacency came lethargy, bad diet, and procrastination. Those three things combined kept me from getting under 200lbs. I'm now at a fairly lean 175lbs with little to no diet effort and consistently outside cycling and doing stuff.
Probably the same with heroin or cigarettes on the complacency or procrastination.

@Everyone. If you don’t drink alcohol, it’s not just alcohol which keeps the belly fat on. Your body adapts to your diet or an intermittent fasting regime, etc. The answer is to do carb cycling and vary your eating schedule and yes, exercise (HIIT and weight lifting will provide the best benefits).
Eating is the same. All of it is reaching for energy or in the downer drugs too much energy.
I've had a fat stomach and love handles all my life. I don't drink alcohol, milk or sugar sodas. I'm 50 years old, 6'-1" and 290. I lifted for power and strength most of my life until I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now I'm more flab than firm. I call it sturdy fat instead of sloppy fat, HAHA. I started keto about a month ago, so wish me luck.

This information is Truth. I am 7 months sober 🥳, I quit alcohol and diet sodas, then a couple months later started limiting carbs, cut out added sugar, then started intermittent fasting (16:8). I have lost 14 lbs. so far. I think my loss has been gradual because I drank for so many years. Quitting alcohol has been one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made. Alcohol only temporarily helps with anxiety, it makes it worse in the long run. ☮️ Peace be with you all ❤

Dr. Berg, this video is spot on! I have insulin resistance, fatty liver and a high BMI. I've been losing weight, and recently reached a plateau. Over the past few months, I noticed that after every weekend, I showed a 7-10 Lb. weight gain that took all week to get rid of.
I go out with friends every weekend, and we have drinks with supper. After watching this video, I know why this is happening. I didn't drink last weekend, and noticed that I didn't gain the 7-10 Lbs. I actually started to see my scale move the other way. Because of this video, it all makes sense. Thank you again!

@@curiouscat3384 I'll explain it for you, the extra weight they gain over the weekend will be water, if i have a lapse and eat carbs its usually over the weekend, i can put 5/7 lbs on easily. That is water, takes about 3 days for it to go

My friend, a police officer who owned a bar, gave up alcohol for lent and lost 22 lbs during those four weeks, so he decided to go a bit further. Six months later, he had lost over 50 lbs. He was one to eat healthy and go to the gym often, was very strong, but overweight and he drank a couple of beers every day. Hearing his story helped me to see that any alcohol was likely to be a problem when trying to lose weight. I gave up my red wine at night, and lost 18 lbs in less than 2 months. Game changer!

I quit drinking years ago, and the sugar cravings skyrocketed like crazy and never stopped. AND sugar is so much more commonplace, accepted, and forced on you at every opportunity -- especially in America, and especially in the South.
So sugar, carbs, and alcohol are basically ugly step-triplets that could (in theory) be enjoyed in extreme moderation but will actually ruin your life.

I've drank almost every day for 16 years now.. I'm a pretty slim woman, but the only place I really get chubby is my belly and under my chin... trying hard to stop drinking again recently. Living in Vegas is tough, alcohol here is 24/7 and very widely accepted socially here. People drink on the streets and on city buses even.. its not uncommon to see. It's so easy to obtain, it's also 2$ or less for a beer, obtainable for even the poorest people. All my friends drink too.. not good!!! I want to try AA.. so far I have 10 days sober and I feel GREAT! Gonna try to go as long as I can, guys! This is motivation as well! Great video thanks Dr Berg! 🙂😊
I quit drinking alcohol about 3 and a half years ago. Lockdown enabled me to tackle the first stretch without social pressure, which I felt lucky about at the time. Really the best decision I’ve ever made and I don’t look back. My skin improved, my weight improved, my mental health improved and so did my general approach and feeling towards life and those around me. Recommend it as a life choice for anyone and everyone

My husband used to be a big drinker, but now rarely drinks after I explained that the body sees alcohol as a poison. I've known alcoholics who looked 60 when they were 40, even without the belly. If it's doing that on the outside, imagine what it's doing on the inside.

I was able to lose a lot of weight on keto while drinking on the weekends , but when I completely stopped drinking, I got under 10 % body fat and my waist is only 32.5 inches. I m leanest I’ve ever been. I very much agree with Dr. Berg alcohol is a major road block to weight loss.

Great info and videos. I don’t drink and am a gym rat and runner. I found chronic stress experienced in the last year and cortisol to be a problem for weight gain. While I avoid all sugar and eat Whole Foods, no meat; the effects of chronic stress cannot be overlooked. Great video.
How do you get chronic stress? Is it your job?
Yes. Work, loss of a loved one as well as as health issues or worry can contribute to chronic anxiety. In turn the body never has an opportunity to recover. Higher levels of cortisol as a result can cause weight gain and also inflammation throughout the body. Workouts, running etc as well as eliminating stressors in your environment can be extremely helpful.

From my personal experience, this fact is IRREFUTABLE.
No matter how I gained weight on my body sometimes, I always had a washboard flat stomach -- permanently. I was known for my flat stomach....until, at 37 years old, I started drinking alcohol.

So many health channels discuss everything under the sun, but they never touch on the devastating effects of alcohol. It is some kind of enigmatic phantom that nobody wants to blame, because most people love a drink or two.

This is me! I eat fairly well and I excersize regularly. I lost 50 pounds but then plateaued and I've been there for the last 3 months. I knew it was the wine and I was drinking a lot. I recently weaned myself off because while I've slimmed down elsewhere, I cannot get rid of this belly so I stopped. Thanks for making this video. I remember the times when I couldn't drink for a month, my stomach started to shrink and I wasn't even working out at those times so the wine is the culprit.

My niece (37) died two weeks ago from her alcoholism. The thing is none of us knew she was an alcoholic. She was extremely high functioning and she was what seemed addicted to exercising. She was very fit. 100 lbs on her 5'4 frame. She never seemed tired and never missed work. Hiked everyday too before work. Then in a blink of an eye she was 20 lbs heavier. It happened so fast. She died from heart failure. The doctor said she was in liver failure but refused help. There was no jaundice. Not even on the day of her death which was like everyday for her, she was up, got herself ready, fixed her hair applied her makeup, did her hike, went to work, came home did her evening workout,. sat down and died. How is that possible??? The only thing that changed quickly was the weight gain.The doctor told her she needed to stop cold turkey, she was on her third day cold turkey. I think this is what killed her. From what I've heard a long time full blown alcoholic cannot go cold turkey. How I wished she'd reached out to me. How I wish I'd known. She was like my daughter. she even called me momma. I rarely ever saw her drinking and when she did, in front of me it was never excessive. As a person who has never touched any kind of alcohol when I see people drinking I pay attention, because I'm usually wondering what do they get out of it. My dad was a drunkard. A very violent one. I'm having a hard time with her loss and I wonder how was I so blind.

So sorry for your loss. Sad to say, that Dr. was wrong in telling an alcoholic to quit cold turkey. This is also how Jerry Garcia passed. It's necessary to slowly detox when the body is overloaded with toxins...May your family find peace in this time. 🙏

When you are an alcoholic, you never stop cold turkey, as it can cause seizures and kill you. Always detox in a hospital!!! They can do things to help you and detox safely.
Sorry to hear that. Two people I personally know died from too much alcohol: my uncle (at 64) and a neighbor (53). They lived normal live to outsiders. No aggressions, no social distancing. My uncle went to the doctor because of a hurting stomach and the doctor told him his liver was failing and he would die in few weeks latest. He went to a store bought several bottles hard alcohol and drank for a last time. That was a month ago.

As always, an exceptional video presented with clarity and packed with useful, science based information. I started doing intermittent fasting and keto prior to the COVID pandemic following your guidelines regarding time restricted eating. My diet has always been pretty healthy but I was carrying around more weight than I wanted. I dropped from 209 pounds at 6'1" to 193 in about 6-8 weeks. Looked better, felt much better, slept better, stopped snoring and had to add some new clothes to my wardrobe. I like wine and was a 2 glass with dinner guy almost every night for years. Not abusive in any way, just liked how it complimented food. I decided to experiment with giving up alcohol for a week. That led to 2, then 3, then a month and it's now been 2 years and 6 months. The weight started to shred off after the third week and I now weigh 174 pounds with body fat content at 15% and have been stable without fluctuation. My waist measurement went from 38" to 33" and I can almost see an ab 6 pack if I look really hard! I've not had my testosterone levels checked (it was low when I was last tested years ago, I'm in my early 70's) but I do know my estrogen levels must be much lower because my man boobs disappeared! 👍👍👍 It's interesting to see the reaction when I run into people I haven't seen in a long time. It usually goes something like "you look great, how did you do that?" I'll often send them your Guide to Intermittent Fasting and Keto. Many have taken my lead and have made some really positive changes, including some Type II diabetics who now have normal labs. And you've added quite a few new subscribers as a result. I don't know how you manage to keep adding so much content so frequently, but thank you for doing what you do.

As a physician of almost 40 years, you are partly correct here. Those that have a NAFL or MFL is a different fat than subcutaneous fat. Most people today have obese belly fat from long term carb and sugar in the diet. The strict keto diet or carnivore diet will help reduce this organ fat and recover the NAFL. If they are drinking ANY alcohol they are not doing keto. It is also important for them to fast 12 hours per day which includes sleep time.
Would really love a video explaining this advice. It really seems to be a game changer for people that can't get rid of that fat even though they don't drink alcohol.
Thank you for speaking up about "belly fat". There are the two kinds going on and the video wasn't explicit on which kind he was referencing. And for example, he may be describing visceral fat while the animation is showing subcutaneous fat. Drives me crazy!
💯 my problem. Social drinking with my husband is what kills me. He loves to drink and I tag along and it’s so awkward asking for water or a pop. Make up some excuse like tolerance problems… or a 90 day challenge. I would do kombucha but the residual sugar in the commercial products is still excessive. Been making my own ‘sprite’ with just club soda and fresh squeezed lemon and lime

I was a fit guy who drank a bit too much beer. I then decided I’d had enough and dropped the drinking. I didn’t do any more training than I already was yet dropped 20 pounds over six months. The result in terms of belly fat loss was amazing. I have a flatter stomach in my late forties than I had for years despite training regularly. It was a very noticeable transformation.

I think your sample size is way too short to be making conclusions. I would imagine you need a few months of consistent behavior before you can start making conclusions about health and weight loss. Water weight can fluctuate daily/weekly. Good luck to you.
Beer is particularly high in calories. I have no problem losing weight when I switch to vodka soda. Not the most flavourful thing, but it works. It’s only 50 cal to an ounce and there are no carbs in there.
You’re right, you won’t lose weight drinking beer. It’s not the alcohol that’s the problem, it’s the calories.
I quit alcohol, kept my terrible diet and lost 10 pounds in a month and a half. I’ve been sober for 3 and a half months now and the cravings still occasionally pop up, but I feel so much better now.
I’m now trying to improve my overall diet.

Why would you want to be a vegan? That's just asking for health problems down the road. You're missing out on tons of essential nutrients. Carnivore is your best bet for dealing with diabetes and keeping weight off

I'm not Dr. Berg, but as a prior vegan, can tell you that for ME, it just didn't work and I actually damaged my liver extensively because of it. (Ended up with NASH) I've never felt as good as I do now on Ketovore/Carnivore, and I'm losing weight and healing! If you're vegan for moral reasons, I understand, but if you're vegan for health, I want to encourage you to continue to watch Dr. Berg's videos as he goes into why Veganism is NOT healthy. I love my organic kale shake shake. I add nutritional yeast lemon sometimes with a little zest cinnamon sometimes a little vanilla extract coconut oil tbl spoon turmeric nutmeg white pepper ginger fill to the top with distilled water. Oh yeah and a dash of sea salt. This greatly fills me for practically all day and takes away my cravings. Loaded with so needed potassium too. Thank you Dr Berg you first introduced me to the kale shake when I began my healthy keto journey 4 years ago. Now I have all the tools I need. If I get lazy or over confident in what I eat, it's on me. My weight has yet to go over 120 and I'm a 62 5 ft 4 woman. My lowest weight since I began was 92 lbs. To low and I was very weak.
100% agree i work out and a very active 66 year old male. Eat crazy healthy but i drink alot of booze. Cant get rid of upper body fat. Now im going to change!!!
As ex heavy drinker, i totally agree. Get rid of alcohol. I drank bottle or more strong alcohol every evening for 4 years. Now i have been sober for year and half and i am happy. I didn't quit it myself, though, i was "coded"
I'm planning to start some diet to lose my belly fat and maybe some other issues with my nerves. My right shoulder and back are very painful sometimes. Can you nudge me in right direction about diet? Maybe you already have released a video to help me started? Greetings from Estonia!
Wow! This will keep me away from alcohol, at least for a while. I guess I've had about 6 beers in the past year so maybe I'm not doing so bad. Thanks for the education about ketosis. I find it odd that you get so much more useful information out of You Tube doctors and so little from doctors that do yearly checkups.

Your videos helped me so much in my weight loss journey. I have lost 65 pounds and I'm still going hard. I was 213 pounds and i am 148 now. 52 of which i lost with your recommendation.
I would also like to add, i am a 33 year old alcoholic who has been drinking for 13 years and is well educated. I went from lagers, ipas, wine to whiskey. Whiskey is the one i am currently using, i no longer have belly fat and drink. However i personally feel that if i didn't drink my journey would have not taken me 8 months to complete.
Now, i have found that with Dr. Bergs research, i was able to experiment with how an alcoholic can drink while following the keto diet. Milk thistle, vitamin B, and diluting the water is my secret, two of which berge had recommended until this video. Yes, dilute with water. I use to use sparkling but it got to expensive. Good day to everyone who also can't stop drinking like me.

Thank you so much, Dr Eric. Another of your videos that I will return to on a regular basis to reinforce my giving up alcohol. I've dieted and worked out in the past, lost weight, got reasonably ripped in the chest, arms and legs, but always puzzled why it had less effect on my belly fat. I realised it was my alcohol intake by accident when I went on a keto diet. I stopped alcohol completely on keto, not because I knew anything about what's in your video, but because I knew if I drank carb free alcohol, I would get the munchies and eat a load of carbs. After a couple of months on keto and without going to the gym (although I enjoy running for 3-4 miles several times a week) I noticed a big reduction in my belly fat. 4 months on keto so far and at the age of 67, my belly fat has as good as vanished. Until your video, I just presumed I would go back to hitting the booze once I reached my preferred weight or when I went on vacation, but that won't happen now. My life with alcohol is over forever. Thank you for another great explanation Dr. Berg! 4 years keto brought me to slender/fit but I still had a little belly pouch. Was drinking wine at night to help me fall asleep and be "refreshed" for work in the morning. (lol It doesn't work.) Since quitting alcohol (and excessive cheese and nuts) 3 months ago I finally lost the pouch. How about doing a video on cooking methods to reduce dietary AGE's? Read a study about marinating meat in lemon juice then cooking with low moist heat. I think I understand but your opinion is appreciated (plus things are easier to comprehend the calm way you explain them.)
I'm so glad that I never drank any alcohol growing up in high school or as an adult. I personally hate the thing with every fiber of my being, and that's mostly due to the fact that I HATE how people are while they're under the influence of it. also doesn't help that its one of the most toxic legal drugs out there. I already have my own issues and can have an addictive personality or behavior towards certain things like food , TV, video games , my phone, ect. The last thing I want or need in my life is another thing controlling my life. No thank you ! I've gone this long without it. And I've done fine.

I really have never understood the appeal of alcohol. I used to drink socially. I hated the taste. And getting drunk always felt like I was intentionally making myself mentally disabled. It makes so much sense when you say our body, specifically our liver, treats alcohol as poison. I recently went on a keto diet and my belly fat came off almost instantly because I no longer drink. Not an alcoholic, but I recently went to a yoga retreat for a week and there was no alcohol. Pants didn’t fit anymore after 7 days. So I agree with you. I don’t think you need to quit completely, but going a week without seems very effective at losing belly fat.
Obviously you know your body better than anyone else but I would attribute this more to partaking in yoga over cutting down on alcohol. I haven't had a drop of alcohol for 7 months now and was never a big drinker to begin with, but still have belly fat (I'm skinny-fat as well, never been a big guy). I have very little sugar either, and don't eat any refined carbs.
@@Baz87100must affect everyone differently as I cut alcohol out for 7 weeks and I've gone down a dress size as I lost weight all over my body.
You probably also ate healthier, didn't have your normal stressors to keep your cortisol levels elevated, and holding yoga poses that rely on 'core' stabilizer muscles that depend on triglycerides (aka fat) for fuel. All of that contributed to your weight loss.
I stopped eating rice and bread and now only eat chicken, beef, fruits, and vegetables. As a result, my round belly fat disappeared, going from 90 to 75 in less than two months. Additionally, I engage in simple 30-minute exercises every other day.

I’ve been alcohol free for nearly 15 years and its the best thing I ever did!! All you say is true. The alcohol tore apart my gut causing leaky-gut. The damage it causes is so hard to recover from!
One thing more boring than a drunk is a ex one going on about how long it is since they had a drink, leaky gut is a myth
I quit alcohol (wine) in early May of this year. Mainly because I suspected it was a major trigger to my Rosacea and I was tired of having flares and inflamed skin. I suspected it was my liver not having it any longer. Anyway I noticed that my anxiety and depression was almost non existent. I slept so much better and my skin has 90% cleared up! I also do intermittent fasting. My diet Not quite Keto but I cleaned it up quite a bit, moderate low carb and no processed sugars. I feel great and I have pretty good energy too throughout the day. My gut issues also vanished. The mental clarity is amazing. I am taking no alcohol way of life day by day. We'll see how far I go. Kombucha tea is also a great alternative.

By far this was the one advice that made the largest impact on my life and I'm 50 years old. I tried everything to lose my belly fat. I was on TRT, doing 150 minutes of cardio a week, working out 6 days a week, and I tried the keto and carnivore diet. Once I gave up drinking, I lost all that body fat. I've been sober now for 3 weeks and I'm eating carbs and my midsection is flat. I was drinking three times a week. Sometimes four or five. I read somewhere online that if you drink every other day, your liver will repair. According to this video, it takes 3-4 days for the liver to recover. That means even drinking twice a week will put a kibosh on your diet. As alcoholics, we don't want to admit drinking is the problem. We'll try everything except quitting drinking. I'm telling you, if you have this problem, you have to make a decision. In your 20's, it didn't matter. When you get to your mid-thirty's or older, your body isn't the same. Do you want to drink and have a belly? It's summer, I want to look good!

I don’t drink alcohol. But I’m stopping the diet sodas. I’ve already quit the low carb energy drinks. Figure worth a shot because I’m working out more lately and I can’t budge the scale. Also, drinking these things could be an easy and fast way to Jack your system up.
I quit diet sodas in December, a habit I’ve had for almost 40 years. Not only do I have more money for real food, but with IF, I’ve been losing about a pound a week and I’m not even exercising. You can do it! 👍🏻
@@TheCJTok Congratulations! Boy do I hear you - except for me it was 40 years drinking regular coke. Quit in January. After university when I picked up the habit and gained weight I thought maybe I should start drinking the diet stuff instead - never could bring myself to do it. I wish I had stopped entirely back then but happy I finally reached the point now where I have absolutely no desire to pick up a can and drink it. The last 5 years were off-again-on-again. Not anymore. For some people it is as addictive as alcohol.
0 calorie sodas are fine if you don’t drink them all the time and definitely not during fasting. I’ve been losing weight consistently every week and I’m down to 12% body fat.
I stopped drinking after years. I can proudly say i havent had a single drink this year and everything is just better. It is so weird that alcohol is still being pushed by companies and in TV. Cigarettes vanished from TV and it is time to do so with alcohol. Today it is still you that are weird if you are NOT drinking. Anyway sorry for the rant. TLDR stopped drinking, working out and loosing fat succesfully.

It's remarkable how so many programs show their characters constantly drinking. I feel like it must be in the production agreements; negative programming.

Just curious, how old are you? It's a lot easier to drink and not gain weight when you're in your 20s and 30s.
Totally agree with this. Last year I went on keto with some fasting, and stopped drinking for 6 monhts. Lost a bunch of weight, felt great, my beer gut was pretty much gone (not 100% but would be gone had i continued). This year, went back on keto with some fasting, but had some low carb beers once in a while. Not seeing the same results in terms of my gut. Need to eliminate alcohol to see the best results. Plus alcohol has so many other bad effects for me such as hampering sleeping, spiking rest heart rate, etc.
