It's kind of funny. First I played violin in grade 3. Then I switched to cello in grade 5. I switched to standup bass in grade 7. I switched to bass guitar in grade 8, entirely self taught, using mostly Tool and A Perfect Circle. My body is CONDITIONED to play Tool, so I don't really notice the pain.
the way learn these songs is by creating playlists of previously played setlists, and i just add the bass covers to the playlist in the order of whatever setlist im playing (basically i have about 1:30:00 jam sessions whenever i feel like playing a setlist all the way through.) AND HOLY GOD DOES IT FEEL AMAZING TO END A SET WITH THE FINAL STRIKE OF THIS SONG!!

I absolutely love the way Justin Chancellor constructs his basslines. I play finger-picking, so I don't get the same quality of tone, but his style is so fun to play. These videos are so constructive.
After months of learning bass and using your videos (this and the other channel) I’ve finally decided to try out Ænema. My fretting hand was not ready 🤣🤣 but it’s going well. Part of why I love instruments is seeing the improvement, I used to think I’d never play Ænema, now I can play it but pretty rough 😅 Thanks for the awesome videos man, they’ve been a huge help learning bass!
This was awesome to watch. Multiple Tool shows but I’ve never sat on Justin’s side close enough to watch him play in any detail. As a non-bass player it’s even more incredible to catch a glimpse into his style of play. Great cover - obviously you are very talented.
Yeah it really is. I can play it with a pick intuitively, but for some reason why I try to play it with my fingers using 3 fingers it doesnt quite make sense. Now im trying to dissect the part and I am confused. 4 bars of each note (2 and 5) and they are played as 16th note triplets each note right? counting it in 6. So is this just 6/8? but then how does each bar have 18 notes?

Hey, quick Question. How did your EQ look for this song? I feel like its somehow a tiny bit diffrent from other tool songs. Maybe less treble then normal?
Oof, I made this video like 5-6 years ago. I sold this bass because I didn't like how it sounded, too metallic and the treble was just a bit much. Tried different strings but I could never get a good Tool tone out of this bass for some reason. So what you're hearing is probably why I sold it lol
