    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    I'm curious...I installed my Wyze Garage Door controller and V3 cam but as of yesterday I no longer see the little button in the app allowing me to open/close the door. I called Wyze yesterday. What a waste of time that call was. I deleted the cam and garage door controller and started fresh. Still, no access to open/close the door in the app. The V3 cam works but not the controller. Thoughts?

    Hi, your garage door opener looks basically like a carbon copy of mine (Overhead Door Destiny 1200) but the Wyze website doesn't my model listed.
    I tried shorting the terminal from both the ceiling-mounted garage door unit and the wall-mounted garage door opener location, and neither process resulted in the door opening or closing. I shorted the same two wires that you showed, as well as the two screw terminals(wall-mounted unit) shown on the Wyze website.
    The wall-mounted garage door opener is nothing fancy like yours. It just has a analog open/close button, a lock, and unlock button.
    Can you help me out?

    For wall switches with the display that will not be compatible, take an old physical remote button opener, open it up, solder wires the the switch. Then these wires can be used as dry contacts.

    My current garage door has an open/close button on the wall of the garage, a keypad open/close controller on the exterior of my house, and we have 3 remotes in our cars. If I install this device, will all those controllers still work? Second question.... what kind of alert will I get on my iPhone when the garage door is opened by my wife? I would need something in real time and not an email, etc. Also, you've done a great job with this vid. Voice is good, no wasted words, and you are interesting to watch and most importantly, no guitar power chords in between your intro and substance!

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  Рік тому

      Yes, you should still be able to use your other remotes. Effectively this goes in, in parallel with the existing button. So when you press it, the opener can't tell where it comes from. Just heed my warning about wireless remotes, you might some some interference from the Wyze unit if it is too close to the antenna.
      As far as notifications, you can set it up to send push (near instant) notifications when the door is opened or closed. I am sure you can set up notifications is it was opened via the app vs manually (with the button or remote).
      What do you don't like background music? It seems that the internet has turned against music in videos. I had one recent video with 10s of complains about music!

    FYI:
    YOU CAN NOT INSTALL THE WYZE GARAGE CONTROLLER IF YOU HAVE A WYZE SPOTLIGHT INSTALLED..YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG THE Y SPITTLER POWER CORD THE COMES WITH THE SPOTLIGHT AND ONLY USE THE SPLITTER POWER CORD THAT COMES WITH THE GARAGE controller..you also have to be no further then 6 to 10ft from the QR code in order for the Wyze cam to scan it to calibrate if you want the open/close notifications..
    Another thing, the wyze cam that comes with the combo pack is shielded supposedly to help interfere with remote control antenna..

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  2 роки тому +1

      Yes that is true, you can only have one accessory plugged in at once, good point.
      I would assume if your QR code is too far away, you can scan it and print it bigger. I tried it from a few different locations and didn't run into a calibration issue.
      On the subject of the camera, it looks like all of the new versions of the Wyze camera are the same "shielded" design. I actually broke the camera that came with the kit and had to sub with one from Home Depot. Same plug design.

    • @ThisSmartHouse

      You are correct but it isn't a problem. The camera switches on the IR emitters when there is no light. That QR code is printed on reflective paper so the camera shouldn't have any issues seeing it.

    Great review but there is a big issue with this. If all it does is scan for the QR code, then you can get false notification that the door is closed. In other words, if the door is opened but the QR code is still visible then the app will not notify you that the door has been opened. I tend to open my door slightly if I'm working in my garage and want to let in a little fresh air without letting in all the dust that comes with a windy day. The best solution is one that senses when the door breaks/makes contact with the ground.

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  Рік тому +1

      That is very true. You could adjust the location of the QR code to the very top so when the door is just slightly opened, it would turn the code away from the camera.
      I know that Wyze wanted to provided an "easier" alternative that would cover most use cases. In your case, I would recommend a different system like the YoLink Garage Door controller*, or something like it. Just be aware that a tilt sensor location would need to be at the very top or you could use a door / window sensor.
      *Full disclosure, I am working with YoLink now. But this is a recommendation from me.

    • @leanchasersx
      @leanchasersx Рік тому +1

      @ThisSmartHouse Thanks for that. I didn't think of that. I saw concerns about the old garage door openers and wall mounted opener no longer working after the installation of Wyze. Can they be re-linked to they or will they simply no longer work? I only need the smart opener for peace of mind but not to actually use it to open/close the door. So the old accessories still need to work if I am to make the switch. I will take a look at Yolink.

    I read somewhere a guy complimenting this garage controller over the MyQ one.
    I have the MyQ, and purchased and installed the Wyze today.
    Not impressed with Wyze:
    1- More difficult to install than MyQ
    2- The camera must be connected to the controller using the splitter. You can't have the camera inside the garage separated from the controller.
    3- No advanced configurations to automate the garage door operation, including any geofencing/ GPS of the phone holder.
    4- Too many steps to control the garage door via the app; you have to open the app, then open the specific garage camera, then operate the garage door. There is no hot key to open/close immediately.
    5- For some reason, I get zero notification about my garage via Wyze, and there is no way to tell the current status of the garage door if it's open or closed using the Wyze app, unless I open the camera and look at the garage door myself.

      @@ThisSmartHouse Yep. Just power cycled the controller and camera and it started working....kind of. I can hear the controller click when I press the button in the Wyze app, but it doesn't always open/close. Looking more closely at the wiring, I think my problem is that the original wires were stiff whereas the Wyze's are soft. I tried to wrap the Wyze wires around the others and insert into the din style connectors, but I don't think they're making good contact and seem loose.

    • @ThisSmartHouse
      @ThisSmartHouse  2 роки тому

      Yeah if you can hear the relay then your Wyze controller isn't making contact.
