Simply programmed the old remote to the opener and enjoyed the Home Kit function. 5. In my view, this can be used for a remote gate opener or anything else with a remote that you can use the Meross to “ close the switch” for. (The control wires for the Meross simply connect together inside the unit, so it acts like a button push on the device you wire it to) I have three Meross units wired this way for my three garage doors for over 6 months now, and the only issue has been after installing a new garage door opener I had to go into the Meross app and change the default 15 second time out to 20 seconds, as the wall mounted opener was taking 16 seconds to cycle the door and the app thru Home Kit was showing that the door was obstructed when closing 🤔

Shane, I just purchased this Meross MSG100 Garage Door Opener last week and installed it without any issues. I did use ismartgate for the compatibility tool and it laid out my exact garage brand/model with a picture to where to put the wires in. It’s very nice. That's awesome! Thanks Courtney. I couldn't use a smart outlet for my coffee machine unfortunately (still requires pushing an ON button after restoring power) so I used a switchbot button presser, exposed to homekit via homebridge. And I agree, it's GREAT to have the coffee machine in homekit. It's part of my good morning scene that turns things on when I snooze my alarm each morning!
Thank you Shane. I look for your videos every week! You could use a Hue Smart Switch to turn on and off power to the garage door opener if it doesn’t respond. I have those connected to each of my Logitech Circle View cameras. If one is offline I cycle off and on to get the camera working again.
@coenfilm thanks for the support! Great idea for power cycling the garage door. I'll definitely do that it the 'no response' thing becomes a consistent problem!

Great review as usual. My Meross (single door) works FAR better than the other unit I had previously. I like the Meross enough that I ordered a 2nd one to install in my daughter's house. It's not perfect - but it's better than it's competition. I sorta think that the electrical noise of the high-torque GDO motors may be a big factor in how this category of product communicates with WiFi. Could be wrong...but until someone proves otherwise...I'm sticking with this theory. :) Also - probably a discussion better had on your Members Discord Group (which everyone should be joining, BTW) - I would TOTALLY be using that 'extra', unused door control wire to lock a car. An extra keyfob, a HomeBridge/Hoobs plugin & 5-minutes with a soldering iron would get it done. Just my crazy $0.02.
My 19 yr old Lift Master was not on the compatibility list and was supposed to wait for the adapter. I went ahead and followed the instructions for connecting to other openers and got it working, then canceled the adapter order.
As of today August 23, 2022 Chamberlain has dropped support their HomeKit Smart Home Hub moving forward. They site lack of sales... This is the next best thing I guess... Thanks for this review Shane!!
That’s definitely a good Christmas present for Mom now that she has an iPhone (I got her an TV 4K last Christmas and started her journey in the world of )
Very Nice. She has a HomeKit Hub thanks to you. The Controller “may” need the remote accessory. Sadly, I did as well. What a pain in the butt that process was. When I finally received, the process to get it to work was less than 5 minutes. Totally 💯😎 cool Christmas gift.
Was the Chamberlain brand one of the openers that requires the additional accessory? I have the MyQ and I have to unplug it every other month to get it to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
The MyQ Homebridge is worth it. I had mine hacked in with HOOBS, and it was okay, but it did occasionally lose connection and was nowhere near as reliable as the MyQ Homebridge. I was really annoyed to have to spend an extra $70 for this support - so expensive - and in my experience both the hub and Homebridge were HORRIBLE to install, but it’s been rock solid ever since.
As an electrician with a lot of smart devices installed in my home and others I always put “sketchy” devices on a smart outlet. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to power cycle them if and when you need to. Especially ones that are high up
I actually grabbed one of these when my MyQ started to act up I haven’t installed it but might use it in the rental I have and see how it works. I love the wired sensors I just wish it had an Ethernet port to plug into my network. I’m waiting till after CES and hope with Matter we get some new devices as I would love a new garage door opener that works with Amazon Key that isn’t MyQ.
I have been using 2 of these for 6 months now and they have worked great for me. Yes Ethernet would be great also. No radios, just 100% working. The old school wired sensor far surpasses the battery powered sensors.
Excellent video, never thought about getting this accessory. My question is do the original openers still work? I would imagine so if you don’t disconnect them too. Will be purchasing one. I’d guess this signal is more secure too.
Yes, the original remotes still function. As do the programmable HomeLink buttons in your vehicle. I have the MyQ Wi-Fi still connected, for family that have Android, and for Amazon Key inside garage deliveries.
I’m have been looking to get the Meross kit for 2 garage doors at my home. What I’m curious about is if I were to get this system can you still use all of the existing wired button, keypads and car remotes?
Great video- as always! I currently have a MyQ that works with my garage door opener. 1. You mentioned a hub to connect it to Home Kit. What is it? And how does it connect? 2. Why do so many devices work only with Google or Alexa, but not automatically with Home Kit? Thanks- I finally found where to join
Thanks for joining! Glad to have you! Be sure to join our discord group if you get a chance. Chamberlain makes a "MyQ Home Bridge" that gives native homekit support to your MyQ opener. So many devices work with Google and Alexa, and not homekit (yet) because it is much easier for the device manufacturers to get certified for those platforms than HomeKit. A big reason is HomeKit has stricter privacy requirements and many companies either can't or don't want to go through the steps to get certified.

I have a homekit meross garage door opener, for months it showed up on my chevy infotainment screen using carplay and I could use it to open my garage door. About a month ago the icon that showed up in the carplay app on the infotainment screen would no longer operate. The app on my phone works fine but using carplay it no longer works. The icon still shows up on the infotainment screen but is inoperative. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it but cannot get it to work anymore. Any idea why or can you do a video on this? Thanks!
The insignia model door opener works like a champ, only issue is battery needs to be changed every 6 months. My router is near garage, maybe I’m lucky.
Hello, how does the electrical signal works? I am trying to control a motor for my parking chain to go up and down. Is the signal for a given period or quick trigger signal? Does it reverse polarity for open/close or just same signal? I would like to plug it directly to dc motor and rotate it one direction or the other for a given amount of time. Thanks for your input.
I have had the MyQ system for about 2 months and it's time for a new one. The thing works only about 3 out of 4 tries and it's so frustrating to keep getting the "Close Error". I'm tossing it into the trash.
Hello, little bit old video, but i sitll ask question. Is there any possibility to make it without sensor ? I didnt installed it and it still shows like opened.
Is there a Homekit switch that could be used to replace the garage door push button wall switch? That would skip having to buy any Homekit garage door opener, right?
You could also go this route, if the MEROSS unit, does not function. Note: if the gate opener is operating with a single momentarily push of a button, then the MEROSS will more than likely function. Make certain to place the magnet sensor on the gate and the wired sensor on a solid piece, this way you will visually see it’s open or closed and SIRI will know too. shop.ismartgate.com/home/52-ismartgate-lite-kit-for-gate-smart-gate-opener.html
Shane, I know this is an old video so I’m still going to ask the question. Do you have the opener in both Meross and HK. And how do you keep it connected to the 2.4 after power outage.
Yes it in both the Meross app and HomeKit. After a power outage it should reconnect automatically as most devices should. If not or if I ever have any issues, usually a simple unplug, and plug back in will solve the problem.
thanks Shane for the videos. I recently got this smart garage door opener. just wondering, is there any smart device to be used as IR beam sensor for garage door? the main garage door opener seems not supporting any IR beam sensor itself and I could not find any smart IR beam to integrate with my smart door opener.
Can you integrate BOTH HomeKit and Google Assistant? Also: Do you know if the HomeKit version works without internet (as long as WiFi is up)? i.e. is it able to run locally without their server still being online? This is important if their service ever goes away in the long term.
Hi! I love your channel. I have a question. Do you know any controller that works with homekit for opening horizontal gates? For car entrances. Thank you
We bought a new house that had a smart MyQ garage door opener installed already. No matter what I do I cannot get the garage door to work with WiFi. I can see the door on my network, but when going through the MyQ setup process it doesn’t connect to the app/the MyQ servers. It’s pretty aggravating. My dad bought a MyQ garage door opener and got it setup, then, 3 days later it dropped off his network. Needless to say, I wouldn’t recommend MyQ lol
Same happened to me. MyQ app worked with my garage opener for about 4 days. It’s now been over a year and I still can’t the opener to reconnect to the Wi-Fi/app despite having great wifi connection in my garage. Currently looking for an alternative
@@ShaneCreates Lol...cool. I'm just now starting to really build out my home with smart devices. Looking at Ecobee. Which one would you recommend? I'm not going to need it for Alexa...
Looking to switching to this opener over the chamberlain. Is there any way to stop the garage door at a certain point when opening/closing? Say if I only wanted to crack it a little or open half way?
I know this is an old video… is it still true that the 3rd garage door shows in HomeKit if you only have 2 doors? Seems they only include 2 door sensors in the box so I would hope they patched that
Could you do a video on installing home assistant supervisor on a synology nas at all. I have the core version and can't do anything on it really I need the add ons to get file explorer to add things like the dyson fan etc.

Thanks Elizabeth! That will remove it from the "favorites" tab, but won't remove it from HomeKit. It'll still be available in the room that you define and Siri will still recognize it. For example, if you say "Hey Siri, are my garage doors open?" she will respond with the status of all three, unfortunately.
hi where can i find the video instructions for how to create the automation to open and close the garage door automatically without the home authentication on the phone first? (you mentioned it at the end of this video but the link doesn't point to that video.
That is the correct video at the end. It's an older video and the video also covers other things though too. You are looking for the "Run Secure Automations with Dummy Switches" chapter in that video. Here is a link though: ua-cam.com/video/1BpcvCUw_kc/v-deo.htmlsi=m4QdrsmfC8twrMzq&t=672
@@ShaneCreates thanks got it to work. So for the closing when leaving since the dummy switch is automatically switched off, how can i set that one to recognize to close the garage?
I don’t believe you need a dummy switch to close the garage in automations (similar to a lock). You would only need it to open as that allows entry into your home (security “feature”/limitation)
Do you know if this reconnects to the Home app when the power comes on after a power outage? Aqara does this wonderfully. We have regular, sometimes daily power cuts from our government in South Africa, so having Homekit devices that reconnects again properly when the power comes back on is amazing, otherwise I have to go through the whole house and reboot all the smart devices before they connect again. I think it has to do with the devices coming on before the Wifi is fully running. 🙈
I feel your pain, my friend. Here we have the same issue with frequent power outages. Seems like every time a cloud blocks the sun, NYSEG (NY state electric and gas) goes down - usually for only a few seconds, but also usually flickers a few times when coming back online. That wreaks havoc with all my smarthome stuff, so I get to run around resetting everything. I’ve put small UPS’s on as many devices as I can… that helps keep the wifi and hubs stable, but lights are still a headache.
Question… Would it be better to have have a hoobs device and control smart opener via homekit since we have a myQ chamberlain garage opener? I had bought Meross device, but they said I needed additional accessory to work with our opener, but can’t seem to get it to work. I just saw hoobs has myQ plugin, so was thinking about that option. Thoughts?
I've heard mixed reviews regarding the MyQ plugin. I used it for a short time but found the native homekit options were better. I'd say give it a shot if you already have hoobs or homebridge setup... or if you have been wanting to set it up. I don't think I'd setup hoobs just for the garage door though. If I was you I'd probably try working with Meross support to see if you can get it to work.
@@ShaneCreates I don't have hoobs or home bridge currently, and trying to figure best way to get garage opener into HomeKit, but ran into issues with Meross. I'm sure can figure it out. Hoobs became interesting if the plugin will work. And I also thought I might get a Ring doorbell and connect it to HomeKit. I really want to just go a battery operated doorbell, so wonder what people think of Ring option and connecting it to HomeKit somehow.
Hi, I have 2 single garage doors with 2 separate Merlin MS105MYQ motors. You know what would be great, a way to notify you when you get mail, like he actual mail at the mailbox. Sometimes we get stuff that can easily melt in the 100 degree+ temperatures we have had recently and so we constantly walk out to mailbox to see if the mail is here yet. I have thought of a door or motion sensor, but there are a few issues, it’s away from the house, and the Wi-Fi is not super strong, especially in a metal box, the heat in a metal box, and it has to be relatively cheep, in case someone want to walk off with the sensor… any suggestions?
USPS informed delivery is a great service. The app no longer works, but the webpage does. The USPS will send you an email every day with images of your scanned letters you can expect that day. USPS scans an image of every letter that goes through their system. So they are just providing you an image that they already have stored. Now it won’t provide images of large envelopes or magazines or packages, although it will notify if you have a package scheduled for delivery. Almost 100% of the time if the image of the front of a letter shows up in the email, it’s delivered the same day. Occasionally it’s delivered the next day.
Is there any way to make a wireless sensor or rig something up so you don’t have to run that ugly wire across a nice garage? I want this product just not the wired sensor. Thoughts?
@@ShaneCreates I found a hack, the centre tube of the opener is hollow and I fished the wire down the middle of it to the top of the opener and to the top of the door. Works perfect, no ugly wires hanging.
I have the single door Meross garage door opener HK edition. I tried your suggested method to automate the door with a smart outlet (also from Meross). But the Meross opener does not respond to it. Nor does it respond to ANY outside switch. You have any idea why this is the case?
I'm not sure how you've set up your automations. Maybe there is an error? You need two automations: Automation 1. "When I leave" - turn ON the smart plug (turn off after 1 minute) Automation 2. "When Smart Plug turns ON" - open garage door That should do the trick...
@@ShaneCreates Don’t you have that the other way around? If Automation 1. "When I LEAVE” means: turn ON the smart plug, wouldn’t Automation 2. "When Smart Plug turns ON" result in the garage door opening when I'm going instead of me coming home? Anyway, no matter how I would program it, Automation 2 should make it so that if I turn on the smart plug with some automation or physically in homekit, the garage door opens. But it doesn't. That's the problem. Even if I swap the smart plug for a smart switch in the second automation, the door is still not opening...
@@ShaneCreates Fixed the “not responding to any input” by factory reseting and reinstall in Meross app and HomeKit. But I use a smart lamp to control the “automatically opening when I come home”. The lamp is in the garage and provides some extra light. The lamp turns off and the garage door is closing after 2 minutes. Works perfect!
I added homekit and Meross to my garage door. I want to operate it with Siri but when I set it up it wants a passcode. I'm assuming thats the iphone passcode but my iphone is not set up for a passcode, and I don't want a passcode on it. Is there a way to get around that and use siri? Thanks!
You shouldn’t have to put in a passcode. It’s not the same as your iPhone passcode. You have an option to enable a pin code that would be required to open the garage door though the Meross app, but you can turn that off in the settings of the Meross app.
From direct experience with the Insignia, I would say YES! As Shane mentions, if you want to have something 100% perfect, you will need to spend a little more. I personally have the iSmartGate one (after having the Insignia one), and it has been practically perfect.
I used the insignia for a long time and it actually wasn't too bad for me (I know many have had worse experiences with insignia). My biggest problem was the door sensor needing new batteries every few months, which would result in false door status, etc. With Meross, I never need to change batteries and it definitely responds faster. So, yea, I'd say it's better.
@@ShaneCreates had bo battery issues so far but bad connection issues. Sometimes i just can open it vis Siri voice command then just via home app. Shows open when closed and vice versa. Insignia support couldn’t help. Try this one now. Available with your link + 20%off 💪 thx for the video shane
I guess I'm just lucky. The Insignia was never that bad for me (still far from perfect). My biggest complaint was the sensor battery dying every few months which resulted in false door statuses. That and it was very slow to respond sometimes.
I have 2 Insignias and the issues are mainly caused by the sensors’ low batteries. Make sure to check the sensor a few times to see if the opener beeps every time. One of mine was not opening every time and I found out the sensor is intermittent when testing it (pushing the button, listening for beep). Now sure how to fix it though 😂
My issue is I drive away from the house and think “did I close the garage door?” and end up having to drive back! If I had one of these could I just ask Siri if it is closed?

@@ShaneCreates thanks for the response! I love the content. For the Lutron switch, does it have to be a fan with the pull strings? A lot of 72 inch fans don’t have the pulls and are controlled with a remote. Just trying setup some fans without returning products
Why do these accessories. Which many openers require Come with buttons. And look like regular openers. When these will be unreachable? You can’t press them. I got my accessory. And buttons seem “stuck”. They don’t click.
Do you have it connected to HomeKit? If so, and it works when you are on wifi, it sounds like a homekit hub issue. Here is my video for troubleshooting HomeKit issues: ua-cam.com/video/pThVayZwvSM/v-deo.html

Yep, I'd definitely recommend this one. Great solution for the price. Bummer Chamberlain dropped HK support. Thanks for watching!
@@frhwebmaster thank you
Was the Chamberlain brand one of the openers that requires the additional accessory? I have the MyQ and I have to unplug it every other month to get it to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
Yes, for Chamberlain MyQ to work with homekit, you have to get the MyQ 'Home Bridge'
Thanks for sharing Brittany. I also used the Homebridge plugin for a while with the MyQ and found it wasn't super reliable either.
As an electrician with a lot of smart devices installed in my home and others I always put “sketchy” devices on a smart outlet. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to power cycle them if and when you need to. Especially ones that are high up
And I replaced my openers with ones that have MyQ built in and have zero issues
Which smart outlet/s do you use?
Such an awesome idea.
Oh a smart garage door opener could be a great use-case for thread.
@@ShaneCreates - how do you connect a hub like this? Not familiar at all.
Also- how do I join the discord group?

What is the exact kit would I need for two single garage door?
The one shown in the video can support up to 3 separate garage doors: geni.us/Meross3GDO
Same for me. Mine worked pretty well too. It was slower to respond than the Meross, and the same thing with changing the battery.
Can you still use the original remote and button for the garage door when you have Meross connected?
Hello, how does the electrical signal works? I am trying to control a motor for my parking chain to go up and down. Is the signal for a given period or quick trigger signal? Does it reverse polarity for open/close or just same signal?
I would like to plug it directly to dc motor and rotate it one direction or the other for a given amount of time. Thanks for your input.
Can you split the tiles for multiple doors and put the third in a “room” called “not used” and remove from summary and favourites?
You can remove one from the status and favorites sections, but since they are grouped as a the same device, they must all be in the same HomeKit room.
@@ShaneCreates ah on some of my devices I can split tile then change the room.
I have Liftmaster garage door opener already installed. But that is not smart
Can I convert it to the smart?
I have had the MyQ system for about 2 months and it's time for a new one. The thing works only about 3 out of 4 tries and it's so frustrating to keep getting the "Close Error". I'm tossing it into the trash.
Great review, Shane! A smart garage door opener is super helpful. I also use Siri on my watch frequently to close my garage door. Super useful. 👌🏼
Thanks Brad!
Good video, thanks Shane. Network issues: do you have 4.1.14 firmware installed?
Thanks Michael! Yes, I'm on 4.1.14
Hello, little bit old video, but i sitll ask question. Is there any possibility to make it without sensor ? I didnt installed it and it still shows like opened.
Is there a Homekit switch that could be used to replace the garage door push button wall switch? That would skip having to buy any Homekit garage door opener, right?
Another gantastic video Shane! I'd be interested to see if this could work with electric gates.
It does work with gates. Many channels mention the unit on a gate.
@@frhwebmaster I need to do some research then!

@@frhwebmaster Great tips! Thank you!
Do I need the HomeKit version if I want to be able to use my Apple Watch to open and close or does the non-HomeKit version work?
Thanks for the video, just one thing missing, how do you add it to HomeKit?
In the “setup” section of the video (4:14), once you successfully scan your HomeKit code, it will be added to HomeKit.
Shane! I have something to add to your smart garage, a garage sensor that’s smart, but doesn’t need to be connected
thanks Shane for the videos.
I recently got this smart garage door opener. just wondering, is there any smart device to be used as IR beam sensor for garage door? the main garage door opener seems not supporting any IR beam sensor itself and I could not find any smart IR beam to integrate with my smart door opener.
How many sensors comes in the Collie kit?
Can you integrate BOTH HomeKit and Google Assistant? Also: Do you know if the HomeKit version works without internet (as long as WiFi is up)? i.e. is it able to run locally without their server still being online? This is important if their service ever goes away in the long term.
Solid review Shane. Something for me to consider. Any firmware updates that may improve the unresponsive issues?
Thanks for watching. Yes, actually it seems to have been doing better for the last few months. Haven't had it fall off the network in a while.
Hi!
I love your channel.
I have a question.
Do you know any controller that works with homekit for opening horizontal gates?
For car entrances.
Thank you
Thanks Sebastian. The only thing that comes to mind is the iSmartGate gate opener. Not sure if that would fit your needs.
MyQ is very unreliable.
Same happened to me. MyQ app worked with my garage opener for about 4 days. It’s now been over a year and I still can’t the opener to reconnect to the Wi-Fi/app despite having great wifi connection in my garage. Currently looking for an alternative
Nice video! How about a smart plug to cut the power to it instead of getting your ladder out...??
Thanks Dave! Yep, that's what I ended up doing after getting out the ladder one too many times. lol Thanks for the suggestion!
Is this kit still the best option for homekit? I want to install it in my house! Thanks!
I'd say it's a good option. It's worked well for me and I'm still using it. It has actually gotten even better since this review... I have not had any "no response" errors in a very long time.
My garage opens by its self during the day and at night on its own. What could be the issue
Do you know if there is a button on Android Auto?
I have this Meross MSG100 Garage Door opener , but I am unable to open and close the door with my phone or Alexa. But one thing that does happen and when I use the wall mount to open it opens and I get notification when it open and closes. Help
Can you use this without the sensors? Practically just using it for opening and closing without hitting the button on the wall
I don't think so. Haven't tried tho. I think you need the sensor so it knows whether it's open or closed in the app.
One issue I saw someone else have with Meross stuff is that he just moved to Ubiquiti stuff, and they dont work together just yet.
Hello shane ! New to your channel ! I like your content very much ! I am
Starting my smart home and i want to add a merros garage opener in my home !
I just want to ask ( because i have 0 idea) , does this work with sliding gates also ? Or is it just for garage openers ?
If anyone can help me
That would be great ! Thank you !
Keep up the content! Amazing !
In the Home app you should be able to remove one of the garage doors from favorites. That way they won’t show up I think?
Thanks Elizabeth! That will remove it from the "favorites" tab, but won't remove it from HomeKit. It'll still be available in the room that you define and Siri will still recognize it. For example, if you say "Hey Siri, are my garage doors open?" she will respond with the status of all three, unfortunately.
@@ShaneCreates Today after 1 year, was there any update where this was fixed?
hi where can i find the video instructions for how to create the automation to open and close the garage door automatically without the home authentication on the phone first? (you mentioned it at the end of this video but the link doesn't point to that video.
That is the correct video at the end. It's an older video and the video also covers other things though too. You are looking for the "Run Secure Automations with Dummy Switches" chapter in that video. Here is a link though: ua-cam.com/video/1BpcvCUw_kc/v-deo.htmlsi=m4QdrsmfC8twrMzq&t=672
@@ShaneCreates thanks got it to work. So for the closing when leaving since the dummy switch is automatically switched off, how can i set that one to recognize to close the garage?
pls disregard, i figured it out by creating two dummy switches and assigning each to the open and close function of the garage
I don’t believe you need a dummy switch to close the garage in automations (similar to a lock). You would only need it to open as that allows entry into your home (security “feature”/limitation)
@@ShaneCreates i was under the same impression but it asked for it on OS18 not sure if it just me or if i did something wrong
From my testing, this garage door opener seems to reconnect back to HomeKit automatically once power is restored.
Once one sets it up for HomeKit, and you still use Android Phones as well?
You can probably use the meross app on android.
Very helpful. Thank you.
Shane, my garage door opener doesn’t have terminals, Is this a thing that alot of people run into?
I'm not sure about that. They have a compatibility checker on their website and you should be able to see if yours is supported.
This worked for me for almost 3 years until apple bricked it in January with the new home update. Now nothing works thru homekit
Do you recommend getting two separate ones or one single three way one?
If you have more than one garage door, I'd get the one that supports 3 doors, as long as they can all connect.
@@ShaneCreates ok cool, do you know if they even sell the 3 way one yet? I couldn’t find it
Installed today. App works and all remotes work. Wall button dosnt work now

Did you accidentally buy the non-HomeKit version?

I have looked at merlin myq smart phone connectivity bundle and Meross MSG 100 and MSG 200. I can't decide which one is a better option for me. Can someone please help me

Yes! Check out this video. I discussed using sensors for a mailbox automation (check the chapter titles). ua-cam.com/video/vz6aiBK8o84/v-deo.html
I put a Hue motion sensor inside my mailbox. A lamp turns on in my living room whenever the door is opened. I also get a notification on my phone.
Is there any way to make a wireless sensor or rig something up so you don’t have to run that ugly wire across a nice garage? I want this product just not the wired sensor. Thoughts?
Not that I know of. If you don't want the sensor wire, you should look at other smart garage door openers that use a wireless sensor.
You need two automations:
Automation 1. "When I leave" - turn ON the smart plug (turn off after 1 minute)
Automation 2. "When Smart Plug turns ON" - open garage door
That should do the trick...
Great video as always.
Thanks Tom!
I use multiple garage door, but Apple Carplay offer to control only one door. Why?

I added homekit and Meross to my garage door. I want to operate it with Siri but when I set it up it wants a passcode. I'm assuming thats the iphone passcode but my iphone is not set up for a passcode, and I don't want a passcode on it. Is there a way to get around that and use siri? Thanks!
You shouldn’t have to put in a passcode. It’s not the same as your iPhone passcode. You have an option to enable a pin code that would be required to open the garage door though the Meross app, but you can turn that off in the settings of the Meross app.
@@ShaneCreates I did set up the pin code in Meross but Siri is still telling me she wants a “passcode” set up. Can’t seem to get around it!
I have a roll up garage so I guess there’s nothing for it that is compatible with homekit 🤷🏻♂️😂
Is it better than the insignia from Best Buy? Wanna replace mine by it fails 80% of the time
From direct experience with the Insignia, I would say YES!
Wish you would’ve talked about how atrocious the Insignia one is….I have to hard kill the hone app sometimes to fix its random “no response” error
Is it OK to use it to outside doors?
I don't think they are weatherproof.
Will meross app bypass and hack your phone router?
Meross products rely on 2.4 ghz wifi. So when you are testing your wifi, make sure you are connected to 2.4 on your phone.
My issue is I drive away from the house and think “did I close the garage door?” and end up having to drive back! If I had one of these could I just ask Siri if it is closed?
Yep!
Why i am watching this when i doesn’t even have a garage? 😂😂😂
Haha, I don't know... but thanks for watching!
Anybody! I need some help. Is there a 72in fan and switch combo that I can install to use homekit? I want to control my fan with HomeKit and wall switch. Just needs to be a 72 inch fan. Any luck out there?
You can use Lutron fan switches with any fan. They just require a neutral wire in the wall, and the Lutron hub.
@@ShaneCreates thanks for the response! I love the content. For the Lutron switch, does it have to be a fan with the pull strings? A lot of 72 inch fans don’t have the pulls and are controlled with a remote. Just trying setup some fans without returning products
@@PhantomJuJux I don't think so. As long as it can be wired & turned on/off with a wall switch, it should work.
Why do these accessories. Which many openers require Come with buttons. And look like regular openers. When these will be unreachable? You can’t press them. I got my accessory. And buttons seem “stuck”. They don’t click.
Do the compatibility check before you order. I think that’s the point of it…
