  • SCP 306 is a Keter Class anomaly also known as Frog Fungus.
SCP-306 is a fungus related to the genus Trichophyton. SCP-306 can infect humans through inhalation of spores or by skin to skin contact.
Approximately two weeks following the SCP306 infection, infected subjects begin to develop major physiological modifications. Over the course of the next three weeks, subjects rapidly lose weight, followed by the development of abnormal pigmentation and increased water permeability of skin. Subjects who are still able to speak describe being in constant, excruciating pain. Over the next two to five months, symptoms include shrinkage of organ systems and reshaping of the skeletal system.
This process can last between two and five months, after which subjects are referred to as SCP-306-1.

As someone who does research, I’m surprised she didn’t do the research on the fungus in a bio safety cabinet/fume hood immediately when she found out the fungus was related to trichophyton… honestly seems like poor judgement on her part, but my research is on animal diseases so maybe plants just have different procedures

    1) The researchers apparently made no effort to tell the 306-1s that there was a risk of them spreading the infection, hence why they weren't allowed to be let out.

But instead, they are written as longing to go out into the world to die horribly, be eaten by some larger dumber animal, or disgusting fungal infection animal in sheer pain and horror? Very silly.

The Foundation claims to be "cold, not cruel", but this was just pure cruelty, no other way to look at it. Once they learn that they're still mentally human, rather than making any attempt to improve their situation, they just bring in a collection of children's stories that could easily be interpreted as mockery, and just kind of act like there's nothing they can do but keep them all locked up in a tiny, featureless plastic box that barely has enough room for them all. Not like they have other anomalies possessing human intellect that they've made special cells for that replicate the environment they're most comfortable with. They could easily make them a small frog pond to live in, but they just... don't.

Can fungus grow on living things?
Fungal hyphae, although microscopic, allow for the rapid flow of nutrients and small molecules across the fungal body. Many fungi create networks of these hyphae into a mass called a mycelium. The mycelium can grow on a surface, in soil or decaying material, in a liquid, or even on living tissue.

What would happen if you put one of these frogs on the setting “fine”? Would it change them back into a human form? On the setting “1 to 1” would it put their consciousness into another creature? If that we’re the case you could just keep rerolling until you got something more workable. Also, there are loads of anomalies known to cure diseases. Do any of them work on this fungus?

This is what's known in the writing biz as an Idiot Story: a story which couldn't happen unless every single character behaves like an idiot at every moment in the story.
Not only is Kate an idiot, but so are the people at the SCP Foundation who, once they find out the frogs have normal human intelligence, keep right on treating them like frogs, keeping them in a miserable plexiglass box. Of COURSE the poor frogs would try to escape!
Evidently, radiating an impulse toward idiocy is the real Keter-class effect of the fungus, not the Froschkönig transformation.
After all, for the transformation, they'd be bringing in young women of various Royal bloodlines (and young men, and girls, and commoners, if only as controls) to kiss the frogs, introduce them to their parents, take naps with them, throw them against walls, &c, to see what undid the transformation.

If you’re wondering how the Foundation deals with the fungus itself, read these paragraphs that I got from the article:
Containment breaches within controlled environments will result in lockdown of affected area. Personnel within the affected area are to remain in place until cleared for release. Hazmat teams are to remove and examine personnel for signs of infection. Infected personnel are to be quarantined. Affected area is to then be sterilized.
A 1km radius around any areas experiencing an outbreak of SCP-306 is to be quarantined. Areas are to have all water and sewer systems sealed. Hazmat teams are to be deployed in the area, and all persons in the quarantine zone are to be evacuated and screened for infection. Uninfected persons are to be released, with non-Foundation employees administered Class B amnestics. Infected persons are to be terminated. Following completed evacuation, enclosed areas are to be sterilized with ethylene oxide. In unenclosed areas, controlled burning, followed by a ground sweep, are to be enacted. Wetlands harboring SCP-306 are to be impounded, filled, and sealed with concrete. Preventing SCP-306 from infecting any large body of water is an Alpha-class priority.

Second, immediatly warn your collegues in the lab via phone as soon as she predicted the fungus is the cause of invection. If there is an potential Bio-Safety-Risk detected, everyone working in the lab needs to be warned not to come into contact with the fungus, but store it in BSL3 bio-hazard conditions.

Has the foundation tried to use there most powerful amnestic‘s to try and wipe scp 682s memories or some scp that has the ability to forever wipe its memories. Because if they could as long as they don’t trigger some form of memory from showing up they could minimize all the breakouts. I don’t know if this has been done before but just a suggestion.
