- Meeting a Geisha's or Maiko/Geiko, as they are called in Kyoto, is one of the most mesmerizing experiences one can have in Japan. It embodies everything we imagine Japan is and gives a unique look into a culture that still holds so much mystery.
So join me as I am attending a special Geiko dinner and show in the heart of Kyoto. Guided through the afternoon/evening by well-known Geisha expert Peter McIntosh, you will get a glimpse into what such an event is like. Watch Geiko "Miehina" perform some beautiful dances and show her personality as she interacts with us afterwards.
A truly incredible experience! Something that should definitely be on your itinerary should you have the chance to travel to Japan. Giving you access to a hidden world that is still a big part of Japanese culture and will leave a lasting impression on you. I promise.

Miehina is a fan favorite. Everyone loves her friendly, engaging personality and sense of humor. I'm looking forward to meeting her one day.
Yes, I loved her sense of humour, she was just such a lovely person. I hope you get to see/meet her!
I believe the geiko here is Miehina-san. She is so beautiful! It's so awesome that you got to meet her and watch her perform!
Yes it was Miehina-san and I was totally mesmerised not just by her performance, but also her personality! Have you had a chance to see her too?
Yes is miehinan it's so good to see her active
It was the first time I saw her perform, but it was so amazing!
@@LetsTravelandEat You where super lucky she is of the Best geikos un miyagawacho
If you want to see more of her performance (including the original music) I uploaded the entire show here: ua-cam.com/video/Z_RZQfKlF14/v-deo.html 💛
That’s awesome that you saw Miehina san! She’s so talented
Yes, her performance looked so effortless, it was just beautiful to watch ❤️
Finally catching up. That was lovely, I was mesmerized by her hand movements and precision!
Awe thank you! Yes, I am a little in love with her. Her expressions and movements were just outer-worldly 😍
@@LetsTravelandEat she seemed very nice as well, like very kind and funny
She was super funny, really down to earth, it made her even cooler!
Can you share the name of the place??
It was a private experience. Generally you will have to get in touch with an organiser and they will pick Maiko-san and the tea house. So locations often change according to the needs of the group or person booking.
Bucket list:
Meet a Geisha ✔️
Definitely!!!
Your happiness and excitement is so contagious 🥰 I was glad for the opportunity to visit this ochaya with you ! Thanks 😊
Thank you for you comment! I am glad you enjoyed it 😊
Nice video, thank you. I wanted to go to Japan (Kyoto) in 2020 and now this coming spring but because of Wuhan bio virus, not possible. 🙁
Oh that is such a pity, I hope you can come visit soon!
Um, I got chills, she's very good!
Yes, I just love to watch her, the way she moves is so graceful isn't it?
Very nice display of Japans Culture and traditions, I am planning a holiday in Japan and the Geisha experience is something I am researching, I find the Japanese way of life very awesome, thank you for sharing and to my Fellow you Tuber nice camera work and presentation :)
Thanks so much for your comment! If you get a chance to come over to Japan, please let me know. Or if you have any questions while your planning your trip I am happy to help if I can :)
@@LetsTravelandEat Thank you for the replay, kind words and offer, I have always found Japan fascinating with its rich culture, if and when life gets back to normal with holidays I would appreciate the help and support in making a holiday in Japan until then take care and keep the films coming I will watch them with interest..!
@@Julian1701D Yes, let's hope we soon have some "normality" and you get to come to visit!
She was like a robot-doll. Pretty~ ♥️
:)
Haha so cute how happy you looked in the intro!! Also wondering, do u know anything about the type of clothing the girl who showed u the way in is wearing? To me it looked like the outfit Chihiro in Spirited Away wore when working in the bathhouse.. I never saw anyone wearing that while I was in Japan!
hahaha your bow counter, make sure to include that again
Oh interesting! To be hones I don't. In Kyoto many shops and restaurant staff do wear Kimono instead of a uniform. I assume the fabric might be more basic (easier to wash ect) as they handle food and drink and of course the colours would be subdued, so they are not stealing the show...
I will see if I can ask someone next time 😉
This is literally my dream. I'm still 14, but I hope to learn Japanese soon, and make enough money in the future to have a private dinner with my friends and a geisha, I just love geisha culture so much
Oh wow! It was my dream to come to Japan since I was 10, so I can totally relate. There are some great free online tools to learn Japanese and it is really fun! I hope you get to visit and meet a Geisha, it is such a special experience 💛
@@LetsTravelandEat Thank you so much! It must truly to a magical experience

@@tristanity9642 great ! I hope You all can learn alot and hoy her dream one day sion :) thank You for your Nice comment. Keep dreaming always.
What a beautiful thing to have seen!! I am so jealous.
It was really amazing, glad I could share the video 💕
I just never understand these I love them so much but it all looks and sounds the same.
A lot of people feel the same, I think it is ok just to watch and enjoy 😉
This is Japanese heritage culture, I really do enjoy the shamisen, and the performance across all geisha, and mako. It’s interesting, the complete turn around of what people think of geishas, I’d say this performance is more enjoyable.
Thank you for your comment! I am glad you enjoyed it, watching a Geisha performance is really special 👘
I think personally your videos you’re very God and I appreciate you so much and I think you should keep going forward to toys your dreams because what makes me happy I love your videos is your happiness and I am so proud of you that you are achieving everything you wanna do you doing everything that makes you happy and that makes me so proud of you so keep going even though you’re gonna have heaters at the end but you need to keep going because of your happiness and I am jealous of you nothing but jealousy over here because I wish I could be over there learning and like just like feeding off like so much information and she’s becoming is really knowledgeable knowledgeable person thank you for your videos and I appreciate you caring about other cultures NOT JUST YOURS.

Beautiful!
Thank you! She really is amazing 👘
What a stunning cultural icon
It was really quite spectacular :)
Great production! Great Show! Keep it up!
Thank you, much appreciated!
Delightful. Thanks
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!😊
I was privileged to be Made into a Geisha " at Ismo. White face, beautiful Kimono and even a " thank you gift! Sponsored by Shesado!"!!:)
Oh wow! How long did it take for the transformation?
@@LetsTravelandEat at least a couple of hours. I was tanned, which was a problem, then a 36C cup, needlessly to say, the binding was tight!:) the artists were wonderful, my " sister " interpreted everything thing. A truly magical experience!:)
@@LetsTravelandEat my Kimono was Golden, with birds, very heavy silk. The people attending the " fashion show" I was in, loved me ( and some giggled at my height. 5'11"!!!) It was a beautiful experience. Also professional photography was done. Any clues how much that experience would cost now? My " father" owned Cypress woods, I stayed in Oda. My " family " in Masuda had a Ryokan, cafe, and more formal restaurant right next to the railroad station. They had a more western style house than my family in Oda ( at least 300 yes old, traditional style).
@@LetsTravelandEat I experienced, traditional, modern, sedated rich and outright extravagant ( Yacht!) And Yve St Laurent!! Wonderful summer!
That made me laugh a little 😹
What a delight!! Oh I love geisha and cannot wait to hopefully experience a performance one day
Glad you enjoyed watching it, hope you get to see a performance one day!
I suddenly miss the day at a Japanese restaurant, eating sushi, drinking osake, watching geisha and hakakiri performances.
I hope you get to redo it someday! 🤞
Awww! Miehina! Her first dance was "Uji-wa" which is short but one of my favourite!
It was the first time I saw her and it was so beautiful!
Like this music more than the original one 😅
Thanks for your comment! I actually think both are nice, I do kinda like when the music is a bit more "modern" sometimes, but of course, the traditional music tells a story with the dance which really rounds off the performance :)
I wish her dance was with the original music
I know, I would have loved to play it, however it was from a recording and with UA-cam guidelines it might have been copy right infringement, so I decided to use this instead :)
@@LetsTravelandEat I have previously uploaded video that got flagged for copyright. I managed to appeal explaining that these songs are 200 years old folk music. There might be CD that recorded these songs but it is ok as long as the music is not directly from the particular CD.
OH wow!!! Thank you for the tip! Next time I will keep the original music for sure.
@@LetsTravelandEat Yes it was unfortunate. "Geisha music" has traditional lyrics/stories which the dancer interprets through her movements, gestures and subtle facial expressions. The generic recording probably had nothing to do with the "story" Miehina was interpreting. In Western terms what they do could be termed"performance art" or "interpretive dance". There's nothing random about it.The proper music and dance both go together as a whole experience.
@@Frank-mm2yp thanks so much for your comment, I really appreciate it! As mentioned in my previous reply I opted to change the music for copyright reasons, which I learned would not have been an issue. And something I will definitely change in my next videos. If you watch my visit to Takayam'a "Matsuri no Mori" (ua-cam.com/video/QQy3XWQi6LU/v-deo.html) or my latest video visiting the "Toka Ebisu Festival" her in Kyoto (ua-cam.com/video/kv0MCtSauno/v-deo.html) you will hear the original music/sound from the events :)
Miehina is so lovely! My fav
Yes she is ❤️
