  • This video tutorial goes through the steps to scanning real world objects in to digital 3D Models using Meshroom, and importing these models in Rhino. The key steps in this process can be seen below:
    0:17 - Meshroom Introduction
    0:51 - Photogrammetry process overview
1:49 - Capturing process - taking a video recording for photogrammetry
2:53 - Extracting still images from a video using photoshop
3:27 - Reducing the number of frames in your video - 'limit to every' option
4:41 - Saving these layers as a sequence of Jpeg images
    6:20 - Opening Meshroom
7:00 - Importing the image sequence into Meshroom
    7:35 - Running the 3d model reconstruction
9:30 - Locating your final 3d textured mesh model
10:35 - Importing the mesh into Rhino
    11:15 - Scaling the mesh
12:14 - Deleting any unwanted faces from the model
Meshroom is a free open source piece of software that can be downloaded from here: alicevision.org/

That "automatic" texture import when switching to Rendering view doesnt work for me. Now it seems that you need to manually set the Texture type as HDR (so it recognizes .exr). But even by doing this, my model becomes pitch black and I havnt find any solution so far to display my textures.

Same here, have you found a solution?

    Hi
When i change perspective from shaded to rendered view, the object stays in black and white. Is there any way to apply the remaining visual information to the obj.
    👍

Do you use points cloud for your works with photogrammetry and next processing in Rhino? Maybe had video about it? Thanks

How did you do the video?

Hi Cameron, if you mean the animations at the start these were quick animated sun studies on the model done in Vray and Rhino. Similar to this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/VqIpN15FMOs/v-deo.html and this one for VRay ua-cam.com/video/P4RCqFNxjiU/v-deo.html

Can you import 3d models thus created into v.r. for games? Especially if using photogrametry for recording miniture rooms?

Hi Curtis, yes you can - software like unreal engine should be able to support these models. You may have to lower the density of the mesh to get this running smoothly and for that id recommend another piece of software called 'meshlab'
