South African infantryman here. At a recent exercise we went to these things were conducting a simulated attack. Pretty intimidating in real life but very far behind by now. As an infantryman though I love having them as support.
I can only imagine seeing one of these in person during that time period. I think anyone would find one of these tanks intimidating, especially when they sit hull down and you only see the turret and main gun staring at you, lol.
The Olifant MK2 is one of my favorite tanks ever (with the T-64BM 2017) it's just so cool how something so old can be modernized that well. I have Dr. Dewald Venter's book "South African Armored Vehicles A History of Innoovation and Excellence". If you haven't read it, it's great!
@Jake Armstrong absolutely. I love this tank, not just because it's South African, but also cause of like you said. It's such a beautiful and rugged tank and seeing them in action is breathtaking.
Id like to correct a mistake - Shot Kal Dalet actually has better UFP, it has the basic 76mm + added 51mm plate. Same as Cent mk.10. And ERA. And the Olifant mk.1A was buffed a few months ago, its turret speed got buffed by a few degrees and I believe its mobility was buffed too. Previously its turret speed was on pretty much same lvl as t54. Very slow turret with meh mobility made it really hard to play.
Spawn pushing is when the enemy team has entirely lost the frontline and you can get into their spawn. (and there are no cap points left) Spawn camping is when you go to the spawn early game or you sit in a spot which can shoot into their spawn or the only way out of their spawn and just sit there.
In a full SA line up, its not that bad even with a 9.0 in the same line. Sure there are things that can kick its arse, but its SO satisfying (when not getting droned, or shooting practice for heli) and its podding speed works in its favour in a way... its also one of 3 that gets to use a cool decal for 100 kills 🙂
To answer your question, I'd say I'd consider spawn camping when a Rad 90 drives across the border of the map to sit and snipe as people leave spawn v.s. a collective team spawn pushing towards the end of the game simply because they won.
To be fair crew training + climate specific differeces couldve played a role in that you know. Same way how soviet tanks in the middle east were useless for a while, since they had no dust filters or cooling systems but idk
IMO, spawn camping is when one or two players bypass the battle entirely with the intention of locking down spawn from a near impossible to counteract position. Spawn pushing is when a handful of players make a mad dash for spawn typically between first and second wave. With the purpose trying to shut the enemy team down early. In my experience it almost never works and usually results in a loss for my team. One or two well placed spawn campers can almost always cripple a team better than an entire team spawn pushing.
Actually Justin 3:24 some Cents have a 2 piece upper plate. Check it from the edges and you'll see the armor plating behind the 51mm. Stat card even says it 76mm front But its a 2 peice armor arrangement.
This is one of my most favourite, I think its underrated. I would understand the people who think it's bad because its veryyy sluggish. I don't mind it personally, because I think its gun is CRAZY GOOD.
Spawn camping is taking advantage of an unfair spot that can see into the enemy spawn from across the map which they can't really see you from. Spawn pushing usually only happens at the end of the game and is when that team is probably already losing anyway, and they must resign themselves to dying for the grind of other players
If your team controls all the objectives and you drive to their spawn killing everyone or meeting no resistance it's justified to spawn kill. They can either fight out of their spawn or leave the game, they had their chance. The awkward one is battle? mode(the one where each team has a cap). Since it often comes down to a win by ticket loss due to kills or the enemy team being knocked out, I feel like spawn killing is more acceptable in this map type, but that's my personal opinion. It's nearly impossible to actually cap the enemy point if they still have similar player numbers to your team making killing efficiently frequently the best way to win(these games go to 20 minute timeouts too often).
I've almost finished this tank's upgrades. I don't like it as much as three of the other British 8.3br ground vehicles. But it's still fun and its gun is mean, even if its gun handling is a bit sluggish (apart from the laser rangefinder). To me, its armour is so vulnerable and it's so visible that it feels more like I'm driving a Chi Ha Long Gun or M36 than a more typical tank.
It is ok to spawn push when you have the caps and have decent control of the map. if your losing don’t have the points your team controls very little of the map and your spawn camping then no winning the game gives more then those few kills but if the map can see 1 spawn to the other nothing you can do someone will
Imo spawn pushing /spawn camping is only ok after ALL points have been taken aside from the battle mode in that case it’s when your team is on the point.
I see spawn camping as taking advantage of a fault in the spawn areas that allows you to kill an enemy before they have a chance to fight back after spawning in when they normally would have a fighting chance. So like if you're just starting a match and you take your park out to where the other team spawns in and you snuggle into a spot with like an IT1 where the enemy team is forced to suicide run at you to be able to return fire on you, I'd say that's spawn camping. When I spawn in and immediate am taking fire, but also can't take advantage of my spawn protection to get into cover or return fire, that's spawn camping and an issue with map design or the spawn protection feature. If the enemy team has given ground though, if they're not even making the attempt to push out and you and your team take ground up to the enemy spawn, I'd say that's not spawn camping.
I think spawn camping is when one goes to a position that overlooks the enemies spawn and kills tanks that spawns in during early to mid game (all points are not captured) and I think spawn pushing is when one know the outcome of the game (like if one team have significantly more players alive and have taken all the points). The difference between spawn camping and pushing is that spawn camping makes the game boring/frustrating for the ones spawning in and spawn pushing is done to end the game so that one can play another match (or do something else). This is my opinion. Do you agree or disagree?
Thanks for the vudeo it means alot to all of us south african players and viewers we enjoy it alot when the South African vehicles are being given some love so thank you alot
So my definition of spawn camping is to directly (in the early stages of the game) go close to their spawn and just camp around and make kills without the enemies even having a slight chance (because the main battle is somewhere else then in their spawn). BUT its definitely not spawn camping when you have all the points and just PUSH FORWARD because that would also happen irl (atleast in RB it makes sense because its based of realism). I myself generally don‘t camp i just drive on to kill enemies which also gives them the chance to kill me without me camping somewhere. Love the vids btw keep it up hehe 😜. Could you also make a new video about the cv90120?

To settle the spawn push/camp debate and put your mind at ease. If there is no other reasonable objective, then it is fine. If you bypass a cap that the enemy team owns to sit in a bush behind the enemy spawn 4 mins into the game, it is not fine.
idk, if they fail to stop you from pushing to a position that gives you an advantage over there spawnpoint then they deserve it, I don't see any issue with spawn camping/pushing its just part of the game at this point.
If all objectives are capped then it's pretty fair to spawn push, but when you control only one or two objectives then you have no place camping spawn. Just my opinion.

Maybe even a bit of lemon juice squeezed in there. 21:08 cent on cent violence destroying the centurion population from within 21:30 youtubers like you always seem to make tanks look better than they actually are.. so i hardly ever trust youtuber gameplay lol. however even though you made it look pretty decent with consistent like 5-6 kills every round.. the tank still seems just, remarkably average from the looks of it. plus there are a bunch of other centurions to go for, aren't there? solid video as usual.
This thing is bad ingame... but it was considered the most powerful tank in the African continent excluding the North African region. Just to give it a proper scale, the SADF's biggest threat that could challenge the Olifant is the Cuban expeditionary force that was involved in the Angolan war, and they deployed their T-55 to assist the FAPLA. The most powerful vehicle to counter the Olifant at that region is a T-55, and that should be enough statement to showcase how this tank is on top of its own food chain IRL but not so much in War thunder XD
t62s were involved as well. as were russians, specs on it are also kind of wrong but thats a different story, the tank did fine mind you as we didnt lose many but the losses of the opposition were alot higher and we captured russias most advanced anti air of the time, as well as a cuban mig that we had to give back a few years ago
Spawn camping: The act of sitting in a scummy position usually either early or mid game with zero regard with how your team is performing, you are killing people of out spawn for your own personal gain. Spawn Pushing (Germany edition): The act of cluelessly pushing forward, usually towards the Spawn regardless of game progress. Spawn Pushing: The act of clearing people from the spawns to make games end quicker, usually involves clearing defenseless SPAAs, but if you're seeing lots of MBTs or regular tanks that can kill you, you've done it too early.
For me: Spawn camping = somewhat early in the match, lots of tickets, lots of players left in both teams, teams are still fighting for the objectives (basically an M18 going around the whole map to get 1-2 kills in your spawn, getting killed really quickly and hopping into a P-47) - not OK. Spawn pushing = late in the match, running low on tickets, most players in one of the teams have already left, the other team holds all objectives and controls the entire map and the match is basically over anyway - pretty much OK.
Spawn pushing = game is basically over (tickets running out, few players on enemy team...) and usually happens late into game, around 10 min minimum Spawn camping = game has just started or is yet to decide even if its by a low margin, usually earlier into the game, first 5 minutes or a bit later EDIT*: also spawn pushing is having mercy on the enemy, camping is basically yelling u dont have the skill or the b*lls to play properly
How about playing the ZTZ59D1? That single machine has been the bane of my damn existence for a while now, desperately want rid of it. *I genuinely enjoyed playing the M41D more.*
Not to sound like I am defending this tank, but the Olifant uses its battle ready weight being 56 tons, the shot kal dalet uses its empty weight which is kinda ridiculous, meaning the Shot kal dalet with all its ERA is somehow lighter than the olifant Mk1a
@@cutthroat795 indeed, but shot kal dalet should be aleast 58 tons in game, you cant have some tanks have its empty weight and others gets their battle ready weight, its unfair
honestly the Oliphant mk1 kinda sucks but once you get the Oliphant mk2 at 9.0 its a game changer (apfsds 430mm, 3rd gen thermals gunner and second gen commanders + Laser range finder) a really good turret against dm23/m1111 (very good hull down tank for 9.0 especially in a downtier 8.3-8.7)
To me toxic spawn camping/pushing is when the battle is still on going and undecided, not all caps are under one team yet. And then a single person or squad pushes up to enemy spawn already. That's just toxic. If the battle is pretty much decided, all the caps are owned by one team, and the whole team pushes up for some last kills (and your own team also isn't keen on breaking through from spawn either) Yeah then it's understandable.
when the battle is pretty much over.. 4-or 5 guys left on the enemy team just go for the spawn. i tend to stay out of the spwan unless i am really PO then i really dont care what happens. but generally i go for the caps aka mission objectives. and lets be honest here. its entirely gaijins fault that something like spawncamping even is a thing. just like the issue that they still havnt come up with some sort of punishment for those who only play one tank , goes for the rush and dies after 20 seconds bc of youtubers telling them about an absolut OP tank.. go play Arcade when you dont wanna play multiple tanks. it sucks for us who are trying to have fun. or ppl spawning in an M22 take the ninja cap and hop into a chopper or plane and die before they got a rocket off.. there is a lot going wrong in this game i just noticed while i wright this
So you asked for an opinion on spawncamping... IMHO, any shot into the spawn, at freshly spawned opposition. Hate to recieve it, also hate to do it. It also takes out both the skill element and the fairness of the gameplay. It's a game. It should be fair and balanced. Leave IRL war mentality out of it (KILL EVERYONE! NO MERCY! That kind of thinking...). I consider it an unfair exploit, since the devs clearly don't care about gameplay (and improvements on it) at all. It really is a shitty experience from both sides. Spawncamping also contributes to the 1-death quitting effect, because players know, that their 2nd or 3rd spawn will 90% be spawnkilled or ganked on by a plane/heli/drone from 10+ km without any chance of evasion or retaliation. Solution IMO: 1 - We should get new/changing objectives, that also pays more in both RP and SL. 2 - Spawn-zones must be inaccessible for the opposing team (also slightly out of map boundaries). 3 - New gamemodes, that are objective based, since most conflicts in history were like that. Also, i just skipped this vehicle. Underpowered in every regard compared to other centurion variants. Lacks a LOT of engine power, turret traverse seems slower as well, optics are horrible, etc...
To me when spawncamping becomes spawnpushing is when your team has all 3 caps and there is no other feasible direction to go to get kills, a typical steamroll match where the enemy team just falls apart pretty much immediately fits this description pretty well
Yea a lot different than, the one or two tanks that speed over to the other spawn. And start to camp. While they only have 1 point and most of their team is fighting for B
This comment might be too old for you to see but even if you're not recording in 4k you should export as 4k - this forces youtube to encode in av1 instead of vp09 (if you right click your video and press "stats for nerds" you will see vp09 as the encoder). The reason why you do this is because it provides a much better bitrate aka viewing experience, even if the footage itself is not 4k!
i am excited to get this thing and the mk2 also i think there are no destroyed russian city maps for legal reasons with russia’s policies for games to be allowed in the country and i think it’s the same for china.
after your first death, you just round the turn to get on the main road from spawn and get fucking spanked. thats spawn camping not when the game is over and there is nothing left to push or take other than the spawn
Alaska, Ground 0 and American desert are in Russia, they are test sites. If you go around the map you can see buildings with broken English/too stereotypical shops and buildings.
I don't honestly see any justification in spawn camping, that's just me tho. I personally don't like it and honestly adds nothing to the game, that and usually the ones who do spawn camp will bitch and complain about how unfair it is when it happens to them.
Spawn camping is anything early game when there is an exploitable location that Gaijin won't fix whereby you can flank or sit on a hill and kill people leaving spawn. The best example is that spot on the west side of Middle East that took a decade or so to finally fix. Ironically, the snipe points on the other side were not changed in any way. However, I still maintain that you have to hate the game and not the player. Gaijin claims to strive for terrain "realism" whereas I expect there are zero players that care if terrain is changed to add rocks or a hill to protect a spawn area for a reasonable distance. Fields of Normandy is another great example. Just sit at that house spot on the SW side and spawn camp all game. Never fixed. Anyone bitching about late game spawn push is just bitter and a poor loser. I used to complain about it, but play the game enough you recognize it as part of the flow of the game.
Been using this recently in my British tree grind, and it is so insanely bad. You've got a UFP worse than a Leopard 1, a turret that was fine(ish) at 7.3-7.7, and no side skirts for added protection against auto canons or heat. And despite that absolutely abysmal armor protection, you only have the mobility of an M60. With APFSDS and the rangefinder it's fine, I guess, but the stock grind is just awful and the spaded performance really doesn't seem worth it.
@@yeoldchief7711 That could work...except I'm not giving gaijin anymore money. Gonna keep it until I can replace it later on with the Challenger Mk. 2 (gonna replace the Chieftain Mk. 3 with the Mk. 10 and the Rooikat with the VFM5 first)
when you compare the olifant with other 8.3 mediums, you start to wonder wth is gaijin thinking. also vickers mk 3 should get apfsds and get moved to 8.3 because as it currently is, its very boring to play the only real spawn camping is when you rush to the enemy spwan at the beginning, what happens after an enemy gets demolished and pushed to their spawn doesnt count as SC
It was THE deadliest tank in Africa during the bush (border) war 70's and 80's. Crew had best training and generally the South Africans made any machine to their disposal work.

I missed that bit, I had a feeling it wasnt that weak. Regardless, best to not get shot at with a dart xP
I’ve been playing this a lot recently… I’d argue British 8.0 and 8.3 lineups are some of the best in the tech tree and across the game
I'd argue against that. Also been playing 8.3 recently, and many of the vehicles seem either completely outclassed or painfully average.

8:40 super slippery slope, you know? however basically, i'd argue that spawn pushing is when you lock down the entire map, captured the objective(s) and are now able to push into their spawn - at that point, the enemy team nearly 100% lost, and it's fair game if they keep spawning in, to feed your team more kills. spawn camping on the other hand, for me at least, would be when you totally ignore the objectives and stuff and just rush straight to their spawn to kill them as they spawn. usually in the early-mid game, whereas spawn pushing usually happens in the late game in my experience.
spawn pushing is capitalizing on total battlefield supremacy, spawn camping is ignoring the contested areas just to try and snipe people out of their spawn for free kills.
11:39 No wedges were harmed in the creation of this video.
...okay, maybe a few were.
16:16 It seems to me that the enemy almost always one-shots you right back just to rub salt in the wound after the game decided that your shell would dematerialize, point blank, on their side. Maybe even a bit of lemon juice squeezed in there.
21:08 cent on cent violence destroying the centurion population from within
21:30 youtubers like you always seem to make tanks look better than they actually are.. so i hardly ever trust youtuber gameplay lol. however even though you made it look pretty decent with consistent like 5-6 kills every round.. the tank still seems just, remarkably average from the looks of it. plus there are a bunch of other centurions to go for, aren't there?
solid video as usual.
now we need olifant mk.1a and strv 105
12:30 no hisparkos are not still a thing, they were buffed a long long while ago along with Russian ShVaks so they do respectable damage now
I'd say Shvaks do more then respectable damage😆 they are doing really well now
Spawn camping: The act of sitting in a scummy position usually either early or mid game with zero regard with how your team is performing, you are killing people of out spawn for your own personal gain.
For me:
Spawn camping = somewhat early in the match, lots of tickets, lots of players left in both teams, teams are still fighting for the objectives (basically an M18 going around the whole map to get 1-2 kills in your spawn, getting killed really quickly and hopping into a P-47) - not OK.
Spawn pushing = late in the match, running low on tickets, most players in one of the teams have already left, the other team holds all objectives and controls the entire map and the match is basically over anyway - pretty much OK.
Spawn pushing = game is basically over (tickets running out, few players on enemy team...) and usually happens late into game, around 10 min minimum
Spawn camping = game has just started or is yet to decide even if its by a low margin, usually earlier into the game, first 5 minutes or a bit later
EDIT*: also spawn pushing is having mercy on the enemy, camping is basically yelling u dont have the skill or the b*lls to play properly
How about playing the ZTZ59D1? That single machine has been the bane of my damn existence for a while now, desperately want rid of it. *I genuinely enjoyed playing the M41D more.*
Not to sound like I am defending this tank, but the Olifant uses its battle ready weight being 56 tons, the shot kal dalet uses its empty weight which is kinda ridiculous, meaning the Shot kal dalet with all its ERA is somehow lighter than the olifant Mk1a
Check the underside. It has mine protection which is what makes it so heavy.
@@cutthroat795 indeed, but shot kal dalet should be aleast 58 tons in game, you cant have some tanks have its empty weight and others gets their battle ready weight, its unfair
@@estianburger8709 that is kind of funny that the Gimel is lighter than the Alef which has no additional armor from a mk3
GREAT TANK WITH A TRAINED CREW
honestly the Oliphant mk1 kinda sucks but once you get the Oliphant mk2 at 9.0 its a game changer (apfsds 430mm, 3rd gen thermals gunner and second gen commanders + Laser range finder) a really good turret against dm23/m1111 (very good hull down tank for 9.0 especially in a downtier 8.3-8.7)
To me toxic spawn camping/pushing is when the battle is still on going and undecided, not all caps are under one team yet.
And then a single person or squad pushes up to enemy spawn already.
That's just toxic.
If the battle is pretty much decided, all the caps are owned by one team, and the whole team pushes up for some last kills (and your own team also isn't keen on breaking through from spawn either)
Yeah then it's understandable.
when the battle is pretty much over..
Spawncamping also contributes to the 1-death quitting effect, because players know, that their 2nd or 3rd spawn will 90% be spawnkilled
or ganked on by a plane/heli/drone from 10+ km without any chance of evasion or retaliation.
Solution IMO:
1 - We should get new/changing objectives, that also pays more in both RP and SL.
The reason why you do this is because it provides a much better bitrate aka viewing experience, even if the footage itself is not 4k!
i am excited to get this thing and the mk2
also i think there are no destroyed russian city maps for legal reasons with russia’s policies for games to be allowed in the country and i think it’s the same for china.
It was made to fight t55
Leo1 a1a1 is much more painful at 8.3 :/
Maybe letting them atleast Push and counter attack instead of the Spawn Camping Them
Bro forgot ERA existed on the Sho't Kal Dalet
And playing Israel using Sho't and its painful ._.
You pronounce it: aww-lee-fant(like font)
after your first death, you just round the turn to get on the main road from spawn and get fucking spanked. thats spawn camping not when the game is over and there is nothing left to push or take other than the spawn
should be 8.0 with both chieftains 3 and 5
Pog Centurion
How long the match has been going on, or how large a ratio of points there is, imo.
Alaska, Ground 0 and American desert are in Russia, they are test sites. If you go around the map you can see buildings with broken English/too stereotypical shops and buildings.
Hey Justin could you play the Black Prince
I think alaska is a soviet biuld test ground for American terrain, so technically this is a russian map, just decorated like american city
That likely explains the terrible advertising placements and wording..
@@JustinPlaysTV and if you think like that, did russians do a nuclear test on their training site or was it destroyed by other forces🤔
I think spawn camping is perfectly fine, it's up to the enemy players to defend their spawn just as much as the points
JUST AS A PS PLAYER I NEED THE ACTUAL DISCOUNT CODE PLEASE INCLUDE THIS I SPEND LITERALLY AT LEAST 100 A DAY AND I WOULD TO SAVE 3 PERCENT
I don't honestly see any justification in spawn camping, that's just me tho. I personally don't like it and honestly adds nothing to the game, that and usually the ones who do spawn camp will bitch and complain about how unfair it is when it happens to them.
I find it sad that you don't get as much views as you should get
I'm watching from a phone so I guess 4K doesn't matter💀
Take it with a Khalid, it can fight in higher tiers and doing so will speed up the grind (as long as you survive to get the hits)
@@yeoldchief7711 That could work...except I'm not giving gaijin anymore money. Gonna keep it until I can replace it later on with the Challenger Mk. 2 (gonna replace the Chieftain Mk. 3 with the Mk. 10 and the Rooikat with the VFM5 first)
MK1B
when you compare the olifant with other 8.3 mediums, you start to wonder wth is gaijin thinking.
also vickers mk 3 should get apfsds and get moved to 8.3 because as it currently is, its very boring to play
the only real spawn camping is when you rush to the enemy spwan at the beginning, what happens after an enemy gets demolished and pushed to their spawn doesnt count as SC
why is this tank so bad in this game.? wasnt this one of the deadliest tanks during border war. 1960?
It up against real opponents, plus something much more advanced. IRL, it faced T-34, T-54/5, T-62, and PT-76 operated by Angola and Cuba
It was THE deadliest tank in Africa during the bush (border) war 70's and 80's. Crew had best training and generally the South Africans made any machine to their disposal work.
The Olifant is a complete joke. Horribly slow, can't keep up with anything, poor armor for it's BR. SKIP this one.
YEEEEEE i love the centurions and the olifants
Khalid review plz
It was my previous o.o
