5:35 Why are you implying Hobbes favored a monarchy form of government? Did you actually read Leviathan? Or at least part 2? The section about commonwealth? The rights of sovereign and the type of common wealth (monarchy, aristocracy, democracy).
Locke is actually ambivalent, he does point out, maybe more alludes to (but hidden in the religious part) that actually woman should have an equal share(?) It's relatevised immidiatly in a or maybe not, but not a definete not, rather a polite since that seems the case in all cultures, while also having pointed out and pointing out that so is the case with monarchy
We all wanted Locke’s visions. Rousseau’s and “will of the people” became to hard to define and practice. Right now, Hobbes, rules. This means humans suck.
The state of nature is not a theory & It is equivalent to man in his natural habitat. The philosophy which comes closest to describing man in his habitat is that of Russo. Subsequent political theories that would recognize the reality of the natural state, and embrace the energy of it through that recognition are all political theories represented by various Constitutional authorities. It’s an ‘in the eye of god thing’.

Daniel Webb, thanks for your view and comment. Your point about Rousseau is well made. Marx never references him in his writings, but I make this claim for three reasons. 1. Rousseau eschews private property in his system; 2. He claims that political conflict arises from “conflict over things” and 3. People in his state of nature give up their freedom for the good of all, not protection of the individual. That’s why I make this claim. Thanks for viewing and for this dialogue.
@@kbarikmo: I think a case could be made that either Marx or his buddy Engels paraphrased Rousseau's starting sentence in 'The Social Contract', where he writes that "Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains." The end of the 'Communist Manifesto' ends with: "The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains." I don't think it is mere coincidence; Rousseau's formulation was as much a grab-you-by-the-collar way to begin an essay as Marx & Engels's formulation was to end an essay.

Everything he got correct is now common knowledge.” These people have no clue how innovative these thinkers were. Not completely, his idea of the sovereign being able to provide complete security is irrational. A sovereign cannot be all knowing about things like petty crime, and small- scale corruption. Apart from that I agree with his ideas.
