- In this video I talk about how I bought silver at my local grocery store. I have seen silver for sale at Costco and silver for sale at Walmart, but I have never seen silver for sale at a grocery store before. Fred Meyer is a grocery store chain in the NW of the USA with over 100 locations. Fred Meyer is now offering silver and gold coins for sale through their online jewelry store. I was able to buy silver from them and I tested it to see if it was real. I paid $40 for one 2024 American Silver Eagle Coin and it was shipped to me for free. The grocery store does not sell the gold and silver coins in the store they only sell them online. Will they ever start taking silver and gold coins in payment for groceries in the future? Will I ever be able to buy food with my silver coins here?

I bought my wife's wedding and engagement rings at Fred Meyer 15 years ago. They've been GREAT! Never a question when she goes in to get them cleaned or inspected.... and.. they've been appraised at about 3x what I paid then. Always been impressed.
Notice the cash/debit price on SD Bullion was $40.22. Fred Meyer was actually cheaper than what many people would pay at SD.
And, to get the $36.91 price pointed out at 2:40 Min, you must buy 1500 to get that price!!!!!!!

I did the math and the price that you quoted from SD BULLION was for payment by check/wire for 1500 coin minimum for a total of $55,365. If you check the price for 1-19 coins with payment by credit/paypal they want $40.22 per coin with a minimum of 5 coins totaling $206.10 to get free shipping.

SD Bullion is high, you have to buy 1500 to get that price. Not a fair comparison.
I saw in your receipt that you didn't pay shipping and taxes. So, 1 silver eagle coin for $40 bucks may seem a little too expensive but it's still cheaper than SD bullion where a single coin costs (today) $38.34 if you pay by check or wire, more if you pay by card. Add $10 shipping and you will end up paying about $50 for the same coin.
No one buys a single coin and pays 10$ for shipping. Gotta be smarter than that with your money. always buy enough for free shipping. Always.

Why did you pick the lowest price of 36.91 with the minimum quantity of 1,500+ eagles? lol. If any person is buying online from Fred Meyer for $40 they are probably using their credit/debit card. SD is $40.22 if paying by card.

They closed the Fred Myers stores in Utah, but it’s crazy that they jumped on the CostCo bandwagon and now offer Gold and Silver. I guess it’s good all around for bringing awareness of P.M. cheers!

40$ is cheaper than SD bullion. Maybe not if you buy 1500 or more, but after taxes and shipping for anything under 200$, you paying more than 40$ an ounce. Unless your buying tube's of them at a time then it might be slightly cheaper but that's not a bad deal really

Lol. When I saw Meyers, I immediately thought of the MEIJERS grocery store chain we have here East of the Mississippi. Mainly in the Ohio region. They're almost exactly like Fred Meyers in that they sell everything, not just groceries. I checked, but they don't sell silver bullion. Yet!!!! StackOn.

40 bucks is about the going rate for an Eagle online if you factor in the premium and shipping cost

Yep, many places sell em for around $40, BUT unless you spend upwards of $200, you have to pay shipping.
Can get them for just over 35$ if you look around, and make sure to buy enough for free shipping.

Well as you said it's raising awareness it's bringing it closer to the average person it's easy. And there's always the aspect that they could eventually go to the next step and accept them back as payment. All the way around I see it as a positive thing, even though I myself will continue to buy it from my local coin dealer.

Check your LCS for potential deals. So many people are selling silver these days that my LCS has been swamped and he has been dumping tubes of BU ASEs at $3 over spot for several days now.
I saw what you did on the price yes it costs $40 in the grocery store it still costs $40 at SD bullion for a person like me that doesn't have thousands of dollars to spend $ 36 because you dropped to the bottom of the list where you had to buy 1500 or more pretty slick didn't think somebody catch that did you
I live in SE Washington and thought how interesting the map you showed of Fred Meyer in Washington didn’t show the one close to my house.
If you can order it with your credit card and have it shipped to you - $40 per Eagle is not a terribly bad a price. Good for the precious metals space.
FYI there is a separate selection on the Sigma for Silver Eagles. I like it better since it rings up in the green. I don't like the yellow reading from Silver Pure.

Bought a roll of 24 Eagles from Costco about three weeks ago $699.99 delivered to my door. That’s 35 bucks apiece not bad.
Bold has the Eagle for $35.28 if purchase 500 or more. Monumnet has them for $35.44 if purchase 500 or more.
Paying $40 for a fancy box no thank you. Apmex has them at this moment for $38.85, JM Bullion $38.26 and Bullionexchange $35.23
Walmart is selling for $35.49 single coin. Selling rolls also.

2:39 With all due respect it is $36.91 if you buy 1500 or more pieces on SD Bullion… meaning if you purchase more than 1500 or more, than each 1 ounce American silver Eagle coin will be give to you at $36.91 but if not then you’re paying the same price as the supermarket jewelry but just a dollar more. If your just buying 1 from SD BULLION it is almost $39.00 for each so just $1 of difference. Now please don’t take this the wrong way, I love SD Bullion but the fact of the matter is that your getting it for $1 less than the supermarket that your purchased from . I personally speaking for myself do not have the money to buy 1500 pieces from SD bullion to buy it at $36.91. Silver as a means of exchange doesn’t provide the level of price consistency required of a currency. Slow inflation is OK, not day to day variations or deflation. That’s why it was removed from circulation. When the price goes up people hoard and inflation gets worse.

Costco is selling tubes of eagles for an average price of $32.50. At today's price that is a $3.30 premium or 11.301%.

We have two Fred Meyer here in Fairbanks a 'west' and an 'east' store. We have two Safeway stores as well - which are about to close due to the merger of Kroger and Albertsons.

I bought 1200 acres of hardwood woodlot property in rural western Maine for 65,000 dollars in cash at a tax lien auction in 1992. I had a company come in and start select cutting hardwoods for cordwood fire wood. We sell over 10,000 cords at 350.00 dollars a cord cash only. I also sell select hardwoods to home builders lumber yards craftman furniture manufacturers artist to make a long story shorter I made that 65,000 investment into a 10 million dollar a year business. All I do is collect the money. Best investment I ever fell into completely by accident.

Ive been offering silver bars in exchange for 2nd hand cars and bikes . Everyone wants cash only, and a large number have asked what gold and silver even is!!! We are in a small bubble of people that are even aware of sound money issues like end the fed, what happened in 1971, etc.....almost NONE of the normies have any clue. Silver is going go several 100s per oz before they notice

Here in Oregon I have been in the original Fred Meyer store.
Another (big?) retailer taking the plunge on PM's to get customers in the door. I've bought from Costco, but only because at the time their price was lagging behind the market price and they were selling sovereign issue bullion. I don't imagine many other retail chains will have the same buying power as Wal-Mart or Costco in the first place.
