    I was there that night! A great performance. Didn’t remember they actually played In High Places and Etude from The Killing Fields. Neither of them were released on record at that time.

      Hi Magnus! I was also there and had a bootleg copy and after a few years I did the connection! But minus Jon Andersons voice......It´s a good one!

    I didn’t know that these songs were played live before being published: what a gem!! I love both them!!
    I always considered In high places one of the highlights of Crises!

    I saw him at the Manchester Apollo in 1982 and am wondering if he played this. I don't think so as I fell in love with it as soon as it was played over the pa system pre Brussels 1984 concert. It would have had the same lasting effect if I had heard it in Manchester. I thought he composed this in 1983 when working on the Killing Fields. Obviously he had knocked it up before he got that job. I do however remember him playing this early version of In High Places. They also sung happy birthday to Morris Pert. I reminded Morris of this years later and he remembered!

      Just a side note, Oldfield didn't compose Etude - it was already a tune by Spanish composer of the late 1800s. He re-worked it for the sound track.

      @Ian-gw2vx 21 день тому

      @@IfUfindthisURlost Yes I know. He still composed his version.

      @@Ian-gw2vx A little confusion over the word 'composed'. Composed would mean he wrote the original, perhaps 'arranged' would be more accurate. He certainly did a lovely job with his version, I thought it was beautiful when I heard it on the soundtrack. Wish he'd do a final tour, but I guess it is not on the cards.

    This is 25th September 1982 I think. About 8 months before the album Crises was released.

    Quizás la única ocasión en la que Oldfield tocó en directo temas que aún no habian sido publicados?

    Thank you so much for uploading these songs.d^^b I've never heard "In High Places" in its early version before, but it sounds awesome, though (much more up-tempo and more in the style of "Punkadiddle"). I can't understand much of the lyrics that Maggie sung, but it seems that Mike wrote different lyrics to that song, before Jon Anderson changed them for the final version.
    "Etude" doesn't sound that much different from the final version on the "Killing Fields OST", but it's nevertheless very beautiful.

      You are welcome dear Sailor Amarok! Yes the lyrics are different, maybe Jon Anderson changed them in better. On my channel you can find a very rare live of Hergest Ridge part 2 from same concert and a playlist of all the Mike Oldfield Bootleg that i uploaded. :D

      Jon's version of the chorus is better than this version I think - I mean musically, not just the lyrics.

    The music starting at about 4:52 reminds me very much of the intro to Ghosts by Japan on their Oil On Canvas album, which coincidentally was being performed live around Europe at the same time as this, the second half of 1982. This is what it sounded like: ua-cam.com/video/JJOFQ3OtJIY/v-deo.html
    In fact, they're so similar in terms of style I'm wondering whether it isn't just a coincidence!

      @ajs41 Agreed, there is more than a passing resemblence. A surprise choice for a single and a big hit, showing that if you give people more challenging music, they can appreciate it.

    Thankyou for this gem. I've been looking for this and I've been curious about this gem for years. Also, from 5:00 to 6:35 there appears to an unusual transitional track linking "In High Places" to "Etude" that I've never heard on any of Mike's albums or other concerts. However it does have that dark and harrowing "The Killing Fields" vibe to it. Etude itself sounds very close to "The Killing Fields" version. This has me wondering 2 things. Firstly, was Mike already working on "The Killing Fields" score in 1982 and secondly, was the strange linking track one of the tracks that Mike was going to use but never made it to the film or album of "The Killing Fields"? A few years ago, I read somewhere on tubular.net that Mike said he had hours of music originally recorded for "The Killing Fields" but most of it was rejected by the film company.
