Hey! I'd love to hear your feedback on the video. In the future, would you like DIYclub videos to be more concise? Or perhaps longer form with more explanation? Or a combination of both, similar to this one? Also, what sort of projects are you interested in making?
Really good stuff - count me in. Also - I have to give you credit - unlike many other hikers that have a following on UA-cam - you have a solid plan to move on and progress in your life.
Looked up "How to make pot cover" & your vid came up. NOW I am binge watching your DCT hike!! Enjoy the DIY vids, really helps save $$$. Hiking/camping does not have to be pricey.....Keep em' coming,Thanks!!
Another excellent video offering. Top shelf, man! I've been watching hours and hours of video here on YT getting tips, advice, and opinions from various channels; but I have to say, Joe, you're the Dalai Lama of backpacking/distance hiking knowledge and expertise. In fact, you, and, DarwinOnthetrail, are two best people on UA-cam for the best tips, advice, and insight on the subject. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. Peace.
Okay, I admit that when I saw the 16+ minute video for making a cozy, I wasn't too interested. However, after watching it, it was the perfect explanation and step-by-step for making the cozy. Good job!
I think this video has the right balance of explanation, I can really see the value of purchasing one of you kits especially if you only plan on making one cozy, I actually when out and bought a full roll of refletixs and the tape, now I have too much laying around :(
This is awesome , mines all done :-) I invert my fuel canister in my pot and the burner and mini bic ride nicely on top because of the dip in the bottom of the fuel canister. Thanks Joe ! Looking forward to more DIY videos . Samurai
This is a great choice for a kit. I tried to make one of these once, but didn't want to buy a whole big roll of the insulation for over $20, so I got this like insulation tape and the foil tape does not stick to it so it was basically a disaster. This is a really helpful idea.
Awesome work Joe ! you can count one more patron ! keep up the good work, I didn't order the kit because i live in Canada, but i have everything i need to build one ! I'll make sure to let you see my atempt hehe
Cool! I look forward to seeing it. Thank's so much for becoming a patron Hubert. I'm working to see how I can bring my international shipping rates down in the future.
That one is "Under The Banner Of Heaven" which I haven't actually read yet! But I am definitely a huge fan of his other work. Adventure writing at its finest.
Nice video. Do you plan to leave the kits up on your website, after moving on to a new one. I received my black bill-fold yesterday and am happy with it.
Great! I'm glad you like it. I'm planning on leaving the kits up for the foreseeable future. I'd love to have a backlog of projects, all of which can be made no matter when you watch the video. I am also hoping to create a whole DIY gear ecosystem where all the gear is meant to work together (Pack, Shelter, Quilt, Foodbag, etc.)
It's main function is to allow you to cook your food using it's insulation instead of fuel. Basically you heat your water/food up to boiling and place it inside the cozy to continue cooking for about 12 minutes. This will save you fuel and weight, allowing you many more meals out of a single canister. Also, it's nice because it keeps your food/drinks warmer for longer and it provides a protective and easy place to store your pot/kitchen.
I've always: used my bandana to grip the top of the pot, closed the handles, then lowered the pot into the cozy. The pots tend to cool on top fairly fast, so if I need to use my hands I'll let it cool for a short period, then just place the pot into the cozy by hand. It's good to let the pot cool a bit so it's not scorching hot anyways, immediately placing a hot pot into a cozy can burn the cozy a bit.
That makes sense; don't know why I didn't think of that. I can certainly see how putting a pot straight from the stove into the cozy could cause issues. Thanks for the video! I made my cozy this afternoon.

Joe Brewer I think this video is a great length.
For future video ideas, the first thing that popped into my head is some kind of light shelter.
Thanks for the input Scott! A shelter will definitely happen at some point :)

Lol " you really wanna struggle for a good ten minutes, just to be sure it's worth it ". Love it!!
Thanks Joe for the subtle humor!

Wow, that's a huge compliment. Thanks!
Well done tutorial, easy to follow, thorough explanation.

Thanks a lot!
Nice project & good tutorial. I like cutting the tabs to make it easier to fold over on to the top & bottom.
Thanks!
Great presentation, Joe. Nice little tips, along with a little theatrics to make me smile.
Thank you!
Awesome video, this series is such an awesome idea! I cannot wait to get my own and try to make it look half as good as yours. Keep it up and thanks!

Thanks Don. I'm experimenting with some more reflectix uses right now, so maybe there will be some more reflextix projects to make in the future.

Ahhh, too cool! I hadn't thought about inverting the canister, but that sounds like a good idea. Thanks so much for being a part of this Samurai!

You've made me feel really cozy
Which Krakauer book is that pictured near the end of the video on the right side of your table? Good to see you are a Krakauer fan.

Nice. Just the right amount of instruction.
great video!
keep them coming please.
Awesome video. Just a simple question: What do you use the cozy for? What uses makes it a part of your ultralight hiking gear?
It's main function is to allow you to cook your food using it's insulation instead of fuel. Basically you heat your water/food up to boiling and place it inside the cozy to continue cooking for about 12 minutes. This will save you fuel and weight, allowing you many more meals out of a single canister. I am convinced! Thanks for the answer.
Well done. Well described. Well shot. I'll be making one later this spring for my summer hikes. Oh heck, I'll probably do it this weekend. :-)
Awesome! and thanks.
So, how do you get the pot in the cozy when its super hot and you have to fold the handles in? I have the 0.9L Evernew, for reference.

Hi there, really like your videos. I want to buy one of your pot cozy kits but the store seems to be down, can you help?
I'm sorry! I'm working on getting my store up and running. It's taking waaaay longer than expected. Soon...
you sill using that bsr stove?
oh hey I didn't know you're from CO. That IS Golden in the still image, right?
It is!
what camera do you use, Joe?
This was shot on a Sony a6300 camera.
Well done. Greetings from Germany, BushRebel
